Abstract

The phenomenon of Korean Pop (K-Pop) has become an important part of global popular culture and is highly favored by Indonesian adolescents, such that fans’ emotional involvement with their idols often forms one-way or parasocial relationships that may be associated with feelings of loneliness. This study aimed to examine the relationship between parasocial relationships and the level of loneliness among adolescent K-Pop fans. A quantitative approach was employed with 207 adolescents aged 15–19 years who were active K-Pop fans and had been part of a fandom for at least six months. The instruments used were the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) to measure parasocial relationships and the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 to measure loneliness. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation. The results showed a significant but weak positive relationship between parasocial relationships and loneliness among adolescent K-Pop fans, with a correlation coefficient of rₛ = 0.316 and a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.01). These findings indicate that the higher the level of adolescents’ parasocial relationships with K-Pop idols, the higher the level of loneliness they experience, thereby providing important implications for parents, educators, and mental health practitioners to pay closer attention to the dynamics of parasocial relationships in the context of adolescents’ use of digital entertainment media.

Abstract

Although evaluation in Islamic education has been widely studied, particularly in relation to the assessment of cognitive learning outcomes, research that specifically highlights the transformation of evaluation from a dominance of cognitive assessment toward the formation of student character remains relatively limited and tends to be normative–conceptual, thereby failing to provide a comprehensive empirical picture of character evaluation practices in educational institutions. This study aimed to analyze forms of transformation in Islamic education evaluation, identify character evaluation practices implemented by teachers, and reveal the implementation challenges involved in integrating cognitive, affective, and psychomotor assessment in a holistic manner. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving Islamic Religious Education teachers at the secondary education level selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and a review of evaluation documents, and were then analyzed using systematic, multilayered thematic analysis. The findings show that evaluation in Islamic education continues to be dominated by cognitive assessment based on written tests, while character assessment is largely conducted implicitly through observation of attitudes and habituation, without the support of standardized authentic instruments. These findings contribute to the development of Islamic education evaluation theory grounded in the integration of tarbiyah, ta‘lim, and ta’dib, and broaden understanding of the importance of evaluation as an instrument for shaping adab and student character. The study concludes by underscoring the urgency of strengthening authentic and reflective evaluation in Islamic education and recommends the development of systematic character evaluation instruments for educators and policymakers so that assessment systems become more holistic, sustainable, and oriented toward student character formation.

Abstract

Although adolescents’ musical tastes have been widely examined, studies that specifically explain the mechanisms underlying the formation of dangdut musical preferences through Pierre Bourdieu’s framework of habitus, capital, and field in the context of secondary schools remain limited. This study aimed to explain how habitus, forms of capital, and the configuration of the social field contribute to shaping dangdut music preferences among students of SMA Negeri Kerjo. The research employed a qualitative and quantitative approach with a case study design, collecting data through participant observation, interviews with students who favor dangdut and key informants (dangdut singers, Art and Culture teachers, and event organizers), as well as document analysis of Google Forms survey results and digital traces on social media. Informants were selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques, while data were analyzed thematically within Bourdieu’s theoretical perspective. The findings show that dangdut music preferences are formed through interactions across four spatial spheres: the private sphere (exposure and practice within the family/home), the communal sphere (activities with peers and communities), the formal/institutional sphere (legitimation through classroom playback and performances in official school events), and the digital sphere (the circulation of songs, trends, and content production on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram). Interactions among these spheres enable the reproduction of musical habitus, the conversion of various forms of capital (cultural, social, economic, and digital) into symbolic capital, and the acceleration of the diffusion and legitimation of dangdut within adolescents’ identity repertoires. These findings contribute to the development of the sociology of music by demonstrating that adolescents’ musical taste is not merely an individual choice, but a socially constructed preference structured within the educational field and popular culture.

Abstract

Although the reconstruction of Islamic education components has received attention in several studies, research that specifically addresses the adaptation of Islamic education to the digital era in school contexts remains limited. This study aimed to explore the transformation of educational objectives, teacher competencies, student responses, teaching materials, instructional methods, and evaluation of Islamic education in responding to digital challenges. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving 15 participants comprising six Islamic Religious Education teachers, two principals or vice-principals in charge of curriculum, and seven students selected through purposive sampling based on their experience with digital-based learning. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of teaching materials and assessment results, and were then analysed thematically to identify patterns, themes, and insights related to the adaptation of Islamic education. The findings showed that the objectives of Islamic education seek to balance technological mastery with the internalisation of moral values; teacher competencies developed through digital literacy and pedagogical creativity; teaching materials and instructional methods became more interactive and project-based; and educational evaluation integrated cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects in a holistic manner. Anomalous findings indicated persisting limitations in digital literacy, social media distractions, and unequal access to technology among some students. These findings contribute to the development of digitally based adaptive Islamic education theory and broaden understanding of holistic instructional practices. The study underscores the importance of teacher competence and student readiness, and offers practical implications for schools in designing teacher development programmes, interactive teaching materials, and holistic technology-based evaluations, while also opening avenues for further research on the role of digital infrastructure, parental support, and school policies in enhancing the effectiveness of digital Islamic education.

Abstract

Although the implementation of digital-based distance learning has been widely developed, comprehensive studies on the transformation of distance learning through the optimization of digital learning media in Indonesia remain relatively limited. This study aimed to examine the transformation of distance learning through the optimization of digital learning media based on recent empirical findings in Indonesia from 2021 to 2025. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a comprehensive literature review, this study synthesised how the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS), video-based learning, mobile learning applications, interactive multimedia, and social media shapes the effectiveness of digital-based teaching. The findings showed that the integration of various digital platforms increased flexibility, accessibility, student engagement, and learning outcomes, particularly when supported by robust instructional design and educators’ digital competence, while social media functioned as supplementary learning support that facilitates real-time communication and collaboration. The implications include a shift in teachers’ roles towards facilitators and instructional designers, the need for competency-based curriculum redesign, and the strengthening of a more self-regulated learning culture. Theoretically, digital transformation in distance learning reinforces constructivist, connectivist, and multimodal learning perspectives. This study concludes that the optimization of digital media is a prerequisite for the development of an adaptive and future-oriented distance learning ecosystem, with recommendations to strengthen digital pedagogy training, enhance technological infrastructure, and establish sustainable digital learning policies to support long-term implementation.

Abstract

The use of Instagram as a medium for self-expression has become increasingly dominant among young adults and has sparked academic interest in the personality factors that shape such behavior. This study aimed to examine the relationship between narcissistic traits and self-presentation behavior on Instagram among young adults. A quantitative correlational design was employed with 305 participants aged 18–25 years who were active Instagram users, recruited using convenience sampling. Measurements were conducted using the NPI-16 and POSSA and analyzed with Spearman’s rho. The results showed no significant relationship between narcissistic traits and self-presentation behavior on Instagram (r = 0.004; p = 0.941). These findings indicate that self-presentation behavior on Instagram among young adults is not primarily influenced by narcissistic traits but is likely shaped by other factors beyond the scope of this study, such as social needs, characteristics of the digital environment, or purposes of social media use. This study is expected to serve as a reference for further research on social media user behavior, particularly in identifying other psychological variables and digital contextual factors related to self-presentation patterns.

Abstract

Although holistic learning in Islamic education has received attention in several previous studies, research that specifically examines its implementation in strengthening students’ spiritual and moral dimensions in school contexts remains relatively limited. This study aimed to explore in depth how the integration of holistic learning in Islamic education contributes to the reinforcement of students’ spirituality and the habituation of moral behaviour. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving Islamic education teachers and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations of the learning process, and document analysis, and were then analysed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns and themes. The findings showed that the integration of holistic learning was manifested in four main themes, namely the integration of spiritual values within the learning process, the habituation of moral conduct through learning activities, the dual role of teachers as facilitators and role models, and students’ generally positive responses to meaningful and contextual learning. These findings affirm that a holistic approach in Islamic education is more capable of comprehensively strengthening students’ spiritual awareness and moral behaviour than approaches that are solely cognitively oriented. Theoretically, this study reinforces the paradigm of holistic Islamic education, while practically it provides direction for schools and educators in designing Islamic education learning that is adaptive to the challenges of the digital era. The study also opens avenues for further research on the development of holistic learning models and the longitudinal measurement of their impact.

Abstract

The declining interest of communities in langghar as traditional educational institutions has coincided with growing preference for TPQ, which are perceived as more structured and effective in Al-Qur’an instruction, thereby necessitating a comparative study on the effectiveness and relevance of both within the context of community Al-Qur’an education. This study aimed to analyse differences in the effectiveness of Al-Qur’an reading instructional methods between langghar that employ conventional methods and TPQ that apply the Ummi method, as well as to compare the relevance and appeal of both institutions in the community’s socio-religious context. A mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design was employed at Langghar Baitul Amal, Langghar Darun Najah, and TPQ Sahabat Qur’an, involving santri in grades 4–6 of elementary school. Quantitative data were obtained through Al-Qur’an reading ability tests and analysed using descriptive statistics (means) and the Mann–Whitney U test, while qualitative data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and subsequently analysed thematically. The results showed significant differences in tartil and fashohah abilities between TPQ and langghar santri (p < 0.05), with TPQ santri achieving higher outcomes, whereas langghar continued to demonstrate strong relevance in shaping spiritual character and preserving the religious traditions of Madurese society. These findings affirm that TPQ are pedagogically more effective due to their structured instructional system, while langghar are effective in the internalisation of religious values through close emotional bonds between teachers and santri, such that both institutions complement one another within the contemporary Al-Qur’an education ecosystem. This study is expected to enrich the body of knowledge and raise public awareness of the importance of Al-Qur’an education and socio-religious life.

Abstract

Although the development of human potential in education has been widely studied, research that specifically integrates the concepts of Multiple Intelligences, Spiritual Quotient, and Adversity Quotient within the context of Islamic education remains limited and tends to be partial. This study aimed to analyze the relevance and integration of these three concepts in developing human potential in Islamic education. It employed a qualitative approach with an analytical–critical literature study design. Data sources were obtained from nationally accredited journals and reputable international journals, academic books, and relevant scientific documents published within the last 5–10 years, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a document review instrument and analyzed through critical thematic analysis. The findings indicate that Multiple Intelligences is relevant for accommodating the diversity of learners’ potentials and fitrah, Spiritual Quotient functions as the foundational value system and transcendental orientation of Islamic education, and Adversity Quotient plays an important role in shaping learners’ resilience and perseverance in facing learning and life challenges (Gardner, 2018; Zohar & Marshall, 2019; Stoltz, 2017). These results contribute to the development of Islamic education theory by proposing an integrative conceptual framework that holistically links intellectual intelligence, spirituality, and psychological resilience (Muhaimin, 2020; Suyadi, 2020). The study concludes that integrating these three concepts in Islamic education is essential for forming intelligent, virtuous, and resilient individuals. The implications of this research include theoretical contributions to enriching the literature on Islamic education and practical implications for educators and administrators of Islamic educational institutions in designing holistic, value-oriented learning, as well as opening opportunities for further empirical studies to examine the implementation of this integrative framework in Islamic educational practice.

Abstract

Although the nature of knowledge in Islam has been widely examined in Islamic education research, studies that specifically explore how Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers interpret the nature of knowledge in Islam in the digital era remain limited. This study aimed to explore how PAI teachers understand the nature of knowledge in Islam in the digital era, to identify digital factors that influence this understanding, and to explain its implications for teaching practices and teacher professionalism. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, involving ten PAI teachers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using phenomenological thematic analysis techniques. The findings indicate that PAI teachers conceptualize knowledge in Islam as integrative, encompassing spiritual, rational, and empirical dimensions, and not only oriented toward cognitive aspects but also toward the formation of moral character. Digital factors, such as the use of online learning platforms and interactive digital media, influence how teachers understand and convey knowledge, although their use tends to be selective and adaptive to the epistemological values of Islam. These findings contribute to the development of contemporary Islamic educational epistemology and broaden understanding of the role of PAI teachers in responding to digital transformation. The study concludes that value-based digital literacy rooted in Islamic principles is crucial in teaching practice and encourages educational institutions and policymakers to develop programs that strengthen the professional competencies of PAI teachers in the digital era, while also opening avenues for further research on students’ perspectives and the effectiveness of digital-based PAI learning models.
