Abstract

The development of science in classical Islam reflects a profound integration of religious and empirical knowledge, forming a foundational pillar of the intellectual and societal achievements of Islamic civilization. In contrast, contemporary scientific paradigms often maintain a strict separation between these domains, contributing to persistent challenges in education, research, and public policy. This study aims to examine the integrative patterns of science within the classical Islamic tradition and evaluate their relevance to contemporary contexts. Adopting a qualitative methodology, the research applies a historical and descriptive-comparative approach to analyze seminal works of classical Muslim scholars and their enduring influence on modern scientific thought. Data were drawn from an extensive array of primary sources, such as classical texts, and secondary sources, including academic journals and recent studies on science integration. The findings reveal that the classical Islamic model marked by a balanced synthesis of rational inquiry and spiritual values retains significant applicability in shaping modern educational frameworks, research ethics, policy formulation, and global scientific engagement. The study concludes that revitalizing this integrative epistemological approach can address current scientific and societal challenges by promoting holistic education, ethically guided research, and policies that align scientific advancement with humanistic and moral values.

Abstract

The transition from the 2013 National Curriculum to the Kurikulum Merdeka introduces new challenges for teacher professionalism in Indonesia, particularly in adopting more flexible, differentiated, and project-based learning approaches, as well as managing administrative tasks through digital platforms such as PMM. This study aims to: (1) analyze the challenges to teacher professionalism in adapting to curriculum change; (2) identify teachers’ perceptions of Kurikulum Merdeka implementation; and (3) formulate strategies for strengthening professionalism through reflection and self-development. A qualitative method was employed using a library research approach, analyzing relevant national scholarly articles published over the past ten years. The findings indicate that teachers encounter difficulties in comprehending the philosophy of Kurikulum Merdeka, developing Learning Objective Pathways (Alur Tujuan Pembelajaran), and integrating technology into classroom instruction. Teacher perceptions of the curriculum vary depending on school context, training experience, and institutional support. Teachers who actively participate in learning communities and engage in regular reflection exhibit greater adaptability. Reflective practice has been shown to enhance pedagogical capacity, administrative efficiency, and teachers’ psychosocial resilience. The study concludes that sustained reflection is essential for reinforcing teacher professionalism. In practical terms, teacher development policies should emphasize contextual, collaborative approaches and promote a reflective culture within school environments.

Abstract

The low level of student participation in fiqih learning, particularly regarding the topics of Hajj and Umrah, poses a significant challenge in the instructional process at MA Mamba’ul Ma’arif. This condition is primarily influenced by the dominance of the lecture method and the limited variety of instructional media employed. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of audiovisual media in enhancing student participation. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 28 tenth-grade students from class X-B as participants. The instrument used was a student participation questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The findings reveal a significant increase in participation, with an average score of 39.44 out of 45, equivalent to 87.64%, classified as a “High” level of participation. These results indicate that audiovisual media are effective in creating more engaging and interactive learning experiences, and in fostering greater student involvement in fiqih instruction. The implications of this study encourage educators to adopt audiovisual media as an innovative strategy for teaching procedural religious content.

Abstract

Curriculum change is a form of educational innovation aimed at addressing global challenges and local needs. This study seeks to analyze the impact of the transition from the 2013 Curriculum to the Kurikulum Merdeka on the quality of education at SDN 26 Rimbo Kaluang. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research involved teachers, students, and parents as subjects. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka has enhanced student participation and fostered a more interactive and contextual learning environment. Nevertheless, challenges persist, including limited teacher understanding of the new curriculum, students’ readiness to adapt, and low parental involvement. The study concludes that while the Kurikulum Merdeka holds positive potential for improving educational quality, its success depends on systemic preparedness and sustained support. The implications of these findings highlight the need for intensive teacher training, adaptive student support, and strengthened school-parent partnerships to achieve a holistic and sustainable educational transformation.

Abstract

This article explores the historical and epistemological development of social commentary (al-tafsīr adabī al-ijtimāʿī) within the Islamic scientific tradition and its relevance to addressing contemporary social issues. Grounded in the premise that the Qur'an offers comprehensive guidance for all dimensions of human life, the study traces the evolution of Qur'anic interpretation from a predominantly textual-linguistic paradigm to a more contextual and socially engaged approach. Employing a qualitative methodology within a literature study framework, the research analyzes seminal works such as Tafsir al-Manar, Fī Ẓilāl al-Qurʾān, Tafsir al-Azhar, and Tafsir al-Miṣbāḥ, alongside the intellectual contributions of scholars including Muḥammad ʿAbduh, Sayyid Quṭb, Fazlur Rahman, and M. Quraish Shihab. The study investigates the epistemological foundations of social commentary through key Islamic concepts such as maqāṣid al-sharīʿah, the principle of maṣlaḥah, and the Theory of Double Movement. It proposes a typology of social commentary comprising four interpretive orientations: reformist, revolutionary, contextual, and transformative. The findings demonstrate that social interpretation effectively integrates Qur'anic values with real-world societal contexts, offering a dynamic and responsive framework for engaging with modern challenges. As such, it serves as a viable model for fostering a just, inclusive, and ethically grounded society.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the evaluation of the psychomotor domain in Islamic Religious Education, particularly through arts-based project approaches, despite the significant role this domain plays in the internalization of religious values. The objective of this study is to describe the implementation of psychomotor skills assessment in students’ understanding of Asmaul Husna through a calligraphy project conducted during the Pesantren Ramadhan program at Al-Fath Mosque, Seberang Padang. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with purposive sampling to determine research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings show that psychomotor evaluation was carried out through three main stages: planning, implementation, and follow-up. Assessment was conducted authentically through direct practice and student portfolio work. The results indicate that students were able to integrate religious understanding with artistic expression through calligraphy effectively, reflecting the success of the contextual, project-based learning approach in fostering psychomotor skill development. The implications of this study highlight the importance of innovation in religious education assessment by integrating affective, cognitive, and psychomotor dimensions in a holistic manner.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a key factor in improving educational quality, particularly in private schools, which often face challenges related to leadership, compensation, and the availability of facilities and infrastructure. Low job satisfaction among teachers can negatively impact motivation and work productivity, ultimately affecting the quality of instruction. This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership, compensation, and facilities and infrastructure on job satisfaction and their implications for teacher performance in private schools in Legonkulon District, Subang Regency. A quantitative approach was employed, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 133 teachers and analyzed using SmartPLS 4. The analysis involved both outer and inner model testing, presented through descriptive and verification techniques. The findings reveal that: (1) transformational leadership, (2) compensation, and (3) facilities and infrastructure each have a positive and significant effect on teacher performance; (4) job satisfaction also has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance; and (5) all four variables simultaneously exert a positive and significant influence on teacher performance, as indicated by the F-value exceeding the critical value (7.1 > 6.09). These results affirm that strengthening leadership, ensuring fair compensation systems, and providing adequate facilities and infrastructure enhance job satisfaction and directly improve teacher performance. The study’s implications serve as a reference for private school administrators in designing management policies that prioritize educator welfare and professionalism.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the challenges encountered in implementing the Kurikulum Merdeka, particularly in Fiqih instruction, which integrates the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains in a holistic manner. The objective of this study is to examine the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka in Fiqih learning for Grade X at MA Mambaul Ulum Megaluh Jombang and to analyze its impact on students’ academic achievement. A descriptive-correlational quantitative approach was employed using a total sampling technique. The research instrument consisted of a Likert-scale questionnaire that underwent validity and reliability testing, with 18 out of 20 items deemed valid and a Cronbach’s Alpha score of 0.819. The analysis results indicate a significant influence of Kurikulum Merdeka implementation on student learning outcomes, with a significance value of 0.024 (< 0.05). Assumption tests confirmed that the data were normally distributed, homogeneous, and linear. The study concludes that Kurikulum Merdeka positively contributes to the quality of Fiqih learning through contextual, differentiated, and project-based approaches. The findings imply the need for strengthened implementation strategies for Kurikulum Merdeka in religious education subjects, as well as further research using broader experimental designs to gain a deeper understanding.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is a crucial skill that must be developed to help students navigate increasingly complex challenges. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using e-LKPD in Liveworksheets integrated with problem-based learning on the topic of basic chemical laws in enhancing students’ problem-solving skills. The research employed a nonequivalent control group design, with a population comprising all Grade X Phase E students at SMA Negeri 3 Padang Panjang (277 students) during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. A sample of 66 students was selected through purposive sampling, consisting of classes X.E.3 and X.E.4. Data were collected through a problem-solving ability test. The results showed an average N-Gain of 70%, categorized as moderately effective. A hypothesis test was conducted to assess significant improvement after treatment, with normality and homogeneity tests confirming that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. A t-test at a 0.05 significance level yielded tₕᵢₜᵤₙg (1.8685) > tₜₐᵦₑₗ (1.69), indicating that H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted. The study concludes that the use of e-LKPD in Liveworksheets based on problem-based learning significantly improves students’ problem-solving abilities in the topic of basic chemical laws. The implication is that interactive digital media, when integrated with problem-based learning approaches, can serve as an effective strategy for chemistry instruction in the digital era.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of instilling religious moderation values within educational environments, particularly at MTsN 16 Jombang, which is situated in a diverse community. The objective of the research is to explore the process of embedding religious moderation values, the role of teachers and the school environment in supporting this effort, as well as students’ perspectives on the importance of adopting a moderate attitude in daily life. The study also identifies the challenges faced in shaping tolerant students capable of living harmoniously amidst diversity. Using a qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation techniques, the study finds that MTsN 16 Jombang promotes religious moderation through regular religious activities, teacher role modeling, and instructional practices that emphasize tolerance and inclusivity. Students demonstrate understanding and a positive attitude toward religious moderation values. However, the school faces challenges such as its remote geographical location and external influences that conflict with the principles of moderation. The study concludes that the implementation of religious moderation at MTsN 16 Jombang is effectively carried out through integrated strategies embedded in school life, with teachers and a supportive environment playing crucial roles in fostering inclusive character. The findings imply that religious moderation education must continue to be strengthened as part of broader efforts to build a tolerant and peaceful society.
