Abstract

Health, occupational safety, and hygiene and sanitation are important aspects related to food service. This aspect affects the quality of food and the safety of students so that the food can be consumed safely. Efforts made to emphasize hygiene, sanitation and work safety include education in the form of counseling. This counseling aims to determine the effectiveness of lecture and discussion methods in enhancing information related to health and safety at work, hygiene, and sanitation among food handlers. Efforts to emphasize occupational safety, hygiene, and sanitation include education through outreach conducted at Vocational Senior High School Subulus Salam, Pagu sub-district, Kediri District on July 30 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. This counseling uses the pretest-posttest method with a sample of twenty-five food handlers. The questionnaire is used in the process of collecting pre-test and post-test results to educate students about hygiene and sanitation in the Food Processing Laboratory at Vocational Senior High School Subulus Salam. The results of the pre-test showed that the average score obtained by the students was 74.7. Meanwhile, in the post-test, the average score of the students increased to 80.1. The conclusion of this outreach shows that students' scores on pre- and post-tests regarding hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety in the laboratory increased. It is hoped that with the knowledge gained, participants will be able to understand and apply hygiene, sanitation, and occupational safety in the laboratory.

Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a complex metabolic disorder caused by obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. The increase in the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Maluku Province is very significant, starting from an early age with various risk factors, one of which is diet. Therefore, early detection of potential disease development in the future is necessary through basic medical diagnostic tests, namely Point of Care Testing. (POCT). The method used involves 3 stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation of activities, and it involves 62 participants. The activity took place in Soya Village, Ambon City, after it was found that there was a low level of public awareness about regularly undergoing health check-ups at the community health center and a tendency to consume foods high in sugar, salt, and fat daily. The results of this activity revealed that 47 (75.8%) people have high systolic blood pressure and 38 (61.3%) people have high diastolic blood pressure. Blood glucose levels showed that 58 (93.5%) people had normal levels. Uric acid levels were normal in 41 (66.1%) people, and cholesterol levels were high in 40 (65.5%) people. Abstract

Education on waste sorting is an important strategy in implementing environmental law at the community level. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of waste sorting education carried out by PEPS officers in Kesiman Kertalangu Village. The method used is a qualitative approach with interviews and observation as data collection techniques. The research results show that this outreach not only increases public awareness about the importance of waste segregation, but also strengthens compliance with existing environmental regulations. In addition, active community participation in this program contributes to reducing the volume of waste and improving environmental quality. The conclusion of this research recommends the need to increase the frequency and quality of education so that more people are involved and understand legal aspects related to waste management.Keywords:  Environmental Law, Counseling, Waste Sorting

Abstract

Environmental cleanliness is a key aspect that reflects the quality of life and shared responsibility in preserving nature. This activity aims to raise student awareness of the importance of cleanliness of the campus environment through clean-up activities involving collaboration between the Semesta Youth group and the regional organization IKANMAS (Ikatan Mahasiswa Semarang). This program was implemented at UIN Walisongo Semarang Campus, especially in the Jati Park and Juras area, which are known to have cleanliness problems due to low student awareness. The methods used included preparation, implementation, and monitoring stages, including hygiene education, field observations, and direct action to clean the campus environment. The results of the activities showed that the actions and education carried out succeeded in increasing the awareness of students and the surrounding community of the importance of maintaining cleanliness. In addition, the cleaning action succeeded in reducing the pile of garbage in the campus area, creating a cleaner and more comfortable environment to support learning activities. Positive changes were also seen in the behavior of students who began to make better use of cleaning facilities and adopt the habit of sorting waste. Through this collaboration, the program succeeded in building a sustainable culture of environmental care, creating synergies between students, local organizations, and the campus

Abstract

Beberapa dekade terakhir, terjadi peningkatan kekhawatiran tentang kesehatan mental pada siswa. Masalah ini harus diatasi karena berdampak negatif terhadap optimalisasi fungsi-fungsi penting pada kehidupan mereka di masa kini maupun masa depan. Tujuan kegiatan yaitu untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa mengenai kesehatan jiwa dan manajemen stress di MAN Kota Lhokseumawe. Metode pelaksanaan dalam kegiatan ini menggunakan pendekatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dengan melibatkan 30 orang siswa. Sebelum dan setelah kegiatan penyuluhan, dilakukan pengisian  kuesioner Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), untuk mendapatkan hasil tingkatan stress yang dialami siswa. Materi penyuluhan mencakup mengelola stress dan manajemen stress. Hasil dari pengisian kuesioner PSS sebelum materi diberikan didapatkan dari 30 siswa MAN dengan jenis kelamin Perempuan dan Laki laki didapatkan hasil 5 siswa (16,7%) mengalami stress tinggi, 20 siswa (66,7%) stress sedang dan sisanya 5 (16,7%) siswa stress rendah. Sedangkan hasil yang didapatkan setelah materi diberikan dan juga role play Teknik relaksasi sederhana untuk mengurangi stress dengan cara Tarik napas dalam didapatkan hasil 7 siswa (23,3%) stress sedang dan sisanya 23 (76,7%) siswa stress rendah. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat berhasil mendorong siswa untuk lebih berpikiran positif dalam menghadapi permasalahan. Pengetahuan dan sikap siswa meningkat setelah penyuluhan, yang menunjukkan pengaruh positif.Kata kunci: manajemen stress, Perceived Stress Scale, kesehatan jiwa

Abstract

The high prevalence of HIV/AIDS and premarital sexual behavior among adolescents is a significant public health concern in Papua. To address this issue, community service activities were conducted through two main programs: training cadres as health educators for HIV/AIDS prevention and premarital sex and cadre-led activities for adolescent health screening and reproductive health education at YPKP Junior High School in Sentani. The methods used included lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. The evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in the cadres' knowledge, which were analyzed with the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score of cadres after the training, from 15.6 to 18. The cadres were able to conduct adolescent screenings and provide counseling sessions. This activity effectively enhanced the capacity of adolescent cadres as agents of change and can be sustainably implemented to support HIV/AIDS and premarital sex prevention efforts in other regions.Keywords:  Adolescents, HIV/AIDS, premarital sex, reproductive health, cadre empowerment

Abstract

Oral health is an important aspect of maintaining overall health, especially in elementary school-aged children. Lack of understanding about oral hygiene can lead to various dental health problems, such as caries and periodontal disease. This community service program aims to improve oral hygiene status through dental health education for students of SDN 33 Banda Aceh City and their parents. The method used was pre-test and post-test without control group with univariate analysis. The intervention included counseling, demonstration of proper tooth brushing, and examination of debris index and calculus index. Results showed significant improvements in parents' knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards their children's dental health. In addition, there was an improvement in children's oral hygiene status, with the proportion of the poor category decreasing from 45.7% to 5.7%, while the good category increased from 22.9% to 42.9%. This program proves that dental health education conducted in a direct and interactive manner can increase awareness and habits of maintaining oral hygiene. Therefore, similar educational programs need to be carried out in a sustainable manner with the support of schools and parents

Abstract

The prevalence of non-communicable diseases in South Buru Regency is in the high category in the Maluku Province. Based on the 2018 Riskesdas data, the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in South Buru that have been diagnosed by doctors are diabetes mellitus (0.09%), heart disease (2.07%), hypertension (24.46%), stroke (9.2%) and joint disease (7.15%). The prevalence data for DM is 0.09% of the 382 residents examined, higher than Ambon City 1.93% of the 3,329 residents. Another thing that was found was that only 0.95% had ever been diagnosed with hypertension by a doctor in South Buru Regency. This community service activity aims to conduct screening as an initial step in early case detection and patient education. This activity was carried out in Waesama District, South Buru Regency. The activities in the form of health checks include anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and cholesterol. The results of the examination activities obtained that most participants had hypertension, almost half of the participants had high cholesterol. The conclusion was that many new cases of hypertension and cholesterol were found. Participants of the activity were given education during consultations with doctors and they were recommended to health facilities to check their health regularly.Keywords:  Hypertension, disease, health check

Abstract

Dental caries is one of the most common health problems among children, closely related to oral hygiene and the use of fluoride. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of parents and children about the importance of fluoride in preventing dental caries. The activity took place in Lam Cot Village, Lueng Bata Subdistrict, Banda Aceh, using methods such as educational lectures, demonstrations of proper toothbrushing techniques, and one-week direct mentoring. A total of 30 elementary school children and 20 parents participated in this program. Evaluation results showed an increase in participants' average knowledge scores from 63.33 to 83.33 (a 20-point improvement) after the implementation of education and mentoring. Additionally, there was an improvement in the compliance of brushing teeth twice a day using fluoride toothpaste. This program had a positive impact on preventing dental caries in children through educational and mentoring approaches.

Abstract

Microbiological deterioration of fish is caused by microbial contamination or spoilage microbes. One technique to extend the shelf life and maintain the sensory quality of a food product is vacuum packaging. The principle of vacuum packaging is to remove all air from the package, then close it tightly so that a condition without oxygen is created in the package. The absence of oxygen can inhibit the growth of destructive microorganisms and chemical reactions, thus extending the shelf life of the packaged product. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge, especially salted fish producers in order to extend the shelf life of salted fish. From the results of the acquisition of the average value of knowledge and attitudes of participants who took the pre-test and post-test, it was seen that there was an increase in participant knowledge by 6%, from 70,33% to 76,33%. There was an increase in the average attitude of participants by 1,34%, from 84,33 to 85,67%. Training on the use of vacuum sealers to maintain moisture content and extend the shelf life of salted fish in salted fish producers in Layeun Village, Leupung District has a positive impact on increasing knowledge and attitudes towards salted fish preservation.
