Abstract

The development of kinship politics in Indonesia in the current era of electoral democracy is indeed a trend that needs to be slowed down even if it is possible to end. This cannot be separated from the many evils and weaknesses of the political order filled by certain kinship and political dynasties, so that criticism, supervision, and the mechanism of checks and balances are difficult to carry out. So far, the existing studies have not paid attention to kinship politics that occur within the scope of village government because they tend to only look at kinship politics in the context of practical politics, namely the election of regional heads. This paper complements the shortcomings of existing studies that do not carefully analyze the practice of kinship politics in village government. In line with that, there are three questions that can be formulated: (1) what is the form of kinship political practice that occurs in Muara Opu Village; (2) what are the factors that support kinship politics in Muara Opu Village, obstacles for female politicians in using the modalities they have to win the 2019 election contest in Padang City; The answers to these two questions provide an in-depth understanding as the basis for formulating policies to prevent the occurrence of kinship politics in Muara Opu Village. The result of this research is that there are forms of kinship politics in Muara Opu Village in the form of non-transparent filling of positions and uneven distribution of social assistance. In addition, the factors that encourage kinship politics are weak leaders and an unclear recruitment system. Finally, the results of this study are the impact of kinship politics such as discriminatory treatment and inhibition of the development process in Muara Opu Village.

Abstract

This study examines inclusive da'wah (Islamic outreach) as a transformative model of Islamic communication in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. In an era marked by religious polarization and identity politics, inclusive da'wah emerges as a counternarrative that prioritizes dialogue, cultural adaptation, and social solidarity over exclusionary sectarian approaches. This research employs a qualitative phenomenological design with ethnographic elements, conducted across multiple sites in Lombok over a twelvemonth period (January-December 2023). Data were collected through semi structured interviews with 18 key informants including da'i, pesantren kyai, community leaders, and lay participants complemented by participant observation at 24 da'wah gatherings and systematic document analysis. Thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke's six phase framework was applied to identify patterns across the data corpus. Findings reveal three interconnected dimensions of inclusive da'wah in Lombok: (1) a culturally embedded communicative practice integrating Sasak cosmological values with Islamic pedagogical traditions; (2) a social transformation mechanism through which da'wah networks catalyze community empowerment, educational access, and interfaith coexistence; and (3) a reconceptualized model of Islamic communication that moves beyond transmission toward dialogical encounter. The study introduces the concept of dakwah perjumpaan as an analytical framework bridging Habermasian communicative rationality, the philosophy of encounter developed by H.M. Husni Muadz, and Islamic communication theory. This Lombok model offers replicable principles for inclusive religious communication in Indonesia's pluralist national context, with implications for da'wah training programs, the Moderasi Beragama policy agenda, and communitybased conflict prevention initiatives.

Abstract

This study examines the existence and variations of Qur'anic verses inscribed on tombs in the Java region. With a rich historical background, the area is a silent witness to the process of acculturation that results in a unique cultural identity, where Islam interacts with local traditions. Historical and cultural studies were carried out using textual analysis methods and epigraphic field documentation, which allowed researchers to collect data from various burial sites as well as document this phenomenon in more depth. The research aims to uncover the historical background, context of the spread of Islam, and the dynamics of Javanese culture which is reflected through the variations of Qur'anic verses on tomb inscriptions. By examining these variations, we can see how the Javanese people interpret Islamic teachings in the context of their local beliefs and practices. The findings of this study show that there is an interaction between Islamic traditions and local culture, where religious values are combined with symbols of beliefs and social structures of Javanese society. The results of the epigraphic analysis reveal the existence of variations in the writing and interpretation of verses that have important implications for the study of cultural history and the spread of Islam in Indonesia. In addition, this study also provides insight into the shift in social values that occur in the transmission of Islamic teachings to Javanese society. This process involves not only the spiritual aspect, but also the much broader social and cultural effects, which have shaped the way of life of people throughout the ages. By delving deeper into the variations of Qur'anic verses on the inscriptions, we can understand how the community adapted and embraced the teachings of this new religion, creating a synthesis between local faith and tradition that continues to this day.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the strategic role of the Petronas Twin Towers as an international tourism symbol of Malaysia by analyzing their contribution to nation branding and competitiveness in the face of global competition dynamics. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a single case study approach, utilizing primary data from field observations and secondary data from corporate reports. Data analysis was conducted using a SWOT analysis integrated with Internal Factors Analysis Summary (IFAS) and External Factors Analysis Summary (EFAS) matrices to determine the strategic position of the destination. The results indicate that the Petronas Twin Towers possess a strong competitive advantage, with internal strengths (score 2.25) outweighing weaknesses (score 1.60) and external opportunities (score 1.97) exceeding threats (score 1.45). The strategic analysis places the destination in Quadrant I (Aggressive Strategy), driven by its status as a global visual icon and the successful implementation of the Green Building Index (GBI) Gold certification. Consequently, the study recommends an aggressive growth strategy focused on strengthening brand equity to capture new markets specifically Middle Eastern and Gen-Z travelers and developing "Eco-Edutourism" programs that leverage the building’s sustainability features.

Abstract

The Waqf is a crucial instrument in Islamic economics that is gaining increasing attention in contemporary academic studies. Researchers' attention is no longer limited to the Islamic banking and finance sector, but has shifted to the sustainable management of Islamic wealth through waqf instruments. Malaysia, as a pioneer in the development of global Islamic finance, plays a significant role in modernizing waqf management. The country consists of 14 states, each with the authority to manage waqf assets within its territory. Among these states, Penang Island is known as a successful example of effective and innovative waqf management. This study aims to examine the development of waqf in Penang from its early days to modern practice using a descriptive normative approach and a "time tunnel" analytical framework. Data were obtained through systematic forensic methods utilizing colonial archives in Singapore and London as well as a literature review of historical books, monographs, and scientific journals. The results indicate that the development of waqf in Penang was pioneered by the Indian Muslim diaspora and reinforced by the British colonial government's policy of providing land for religious purposes, which was then donated. After Malaysia's independence, waqf management was under the State Islamic Religious Council of Pulau Pinang (MAINPP), which then developed the concept of productive waqf to support sustainable community welfare.

Abstract

The phenomenon of recidivism in correctional institutions remains a challenge in the Indonesian correctional system, particularly in North Maluku, despite the implementation of various correctional programs. This study aims to describe the conditions of correctional institutions for recidivists, understand inmates' perspectives on correctional institutions, and develop an effective Islamic Education-based correctional institution model. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological paradigm focusing on the experiences and perceptions of recidivists in the Class IIA Ternate Penitentiary. Data were collected through observation, structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed thematically using triangulation techniques to ensure credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability of the data. The results show that although the prison provides educational and skills programs, recidivists still experience difficulties in internalizing moral values. The implementation of non-formal Islamic education, such as the Al-Qur'an Education Park (TPQ) and the Majelis Taklim (Islamic study group), has been proven to instill deep spiritual and moral awareness, thereby increasing recidivists' motivation to avoid repeating criminal offenses. These findings provide important implications for the development of a holistic, integrative, and Islamic-values-based development model to reduce recidivism rates in prisons, and serve as a guideline for other correctional institutions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This manuscript serves as a template to assist authors in writing the Globalization and modernization have reshaped the value systems and educational practices of indigenous communities, including the Ammatoa Kajang community in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. In this context, education is not merely a formal process but a culturally embedded practice rooted in indigenous belief systems. This study aims to analyze Patuntung-based education as a foundation of indigenous learning, focusing on its epistemological, pedagogical, and axiological dimensions, as well as its role in responding to social change. This research employed a qualitative ethnographic approach, using participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, analyzed through an interactive model. The findings reveal that Patuntung functions as an indigenous educational framework that structures knowledge construction, value internalization, and social behavior. Its values are transmitted through Pasang ri Kajang in a cyclical process of cultural reproduction. Furthermore, the study identifies a hybrid educational system in which traditional and formal education coexist without eroding cultural identity. This study contributes to the anthropology of education by proposing Patuntung-based education as a conceptual model of indigenous learning that is holistic, adaptive, and sustainable.

Abstract

This study examines the evangelistic paradigm of the Nederlandsche Zendingsgenootschap (NZG) among the Karo people between 1890 and 1941, arguing that baptism functioned as a consequence rather than the primary goal of mission. Employing a historical-hermeneutical method, this research integrates archival baptismal data, missionary reports, and contextual theological analysis. Historical records show that within approximately fifty years of NZG mission in Tanah Karo, only 5,574 baptisms were recorded, averaging around 500 per year. This statistical pattern reflects not merely missionary inefficiency but the consequences of limited contextualization, especially the rejection of Karo cultural expressions such as the gendang in ecclesial life. The findings demonstrate that authentic evangelism among indigenous societies must be evaluated beyond sacramental metrics and understood as a dialogical, contextual, and culturally embodied process. This study addresses a critical gap in existing scholarship by challenging the 'quantitative evaluation' paradigm that has long dominated the historiography of mission in Tanah Karo. By prioritizing hermeneutical depth over statistical metrics, it provides a novel perspective on the dialectic between faith and indigenous culture, situating baptism as a complex socio-cultural consequence rather than a mere indicator of institutional success.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the reconfiguration of supervisory authority over environmental crimes in the mining sector, particularly regarding the role of local governments following the amendment of the Mineral and Coal Law from a developmental legal-political perspective. This study employs a normative legal method using legislative, historical, and conceptual approaches. The scope of the study covers four main legal regimes, namely Law No. 11 of 1967, Law No. 4 of 2009, Law No. 3 of 2020, and Law No. 2 of 2025. The research findings indicate that supervisory authority has undergone a cyclical paradigm shift, moving from centralisation towards decentralisation, and then back to re-centralisation with a strategic orientation based on national interests and the agenda for sustainable economic development. From the perspective of development legal politics, these changes reflect the state’s dominance in controlling strategic resource sectors to support economic growth, industrial downstreaming, and the enhancement of national competitiveness. However, the re- centralisation of authority implies a weakening of the role of local governments in operational supervision at the local level, thereby creating a gap between regulatory design and implementation on the ground. This situation contributes to an increased risk of environmental crimes, such as illegal mining, pollution, and ecosystem degradation with far-reaching impacts. Therefore, this study proposes a Hybrid Developmental Supervision model that integrates the role of the central government as a strategic regulator, local governments as operational supervisors, and the public as participatory supervisors. This model is expected to enhance the effectiveness of supervision and realise sustainable, adaptive, and equitable environmental governance.

Abstract

This study aims to reinterpret the value of trust in Islamic banking through the perspective of maqashid al-sharia with a case study on Bank NTB Syariah. The method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design and interpretive paradigm, through the analysis of internal documents and relevant scientific literature. The results of the study show that trust is not only understood as trust in transactions, but as a holistic principle that includes moral, social, and spiritual responsibility in all banking activities. The implementation of trust has been reflected in various aspects of the organization such as governance, service, human resource management, and supervisory systems. However, there is still a gap between normative values and empirical reality that shows that the internalization of trust has not been fully consistent in organizational practices. This condition emphasizes the need to strengthen a value-based work culture and an institutional system that is able to bridge the gap between ideal values and real implementation. As the main contribution, this study offers an integrative model of trust as a sustainability strategy for Islamic banking that connects the spirituality, governance, social, and economic dimensions. This model is believed to be able to strengthen public trust, increase competitiveness, and maintain institutional sustainability in the long term. Therefore, leadership with integrity, strengthening organizational culture, and ethics-based evaluation systems are key factors in ensuring that trust is consistently internalized and has a real impact on the institution's performance and reputation.
