Abstract

This study evaluated the psychometric quality of a critical thinking skills test on the kinetic theory of gases using the Rasch Model. The instrument consisted of 18 essay items representing four indicators: basic clarification, advanced clarification, inference, and strategies and tactics. A pilot test was administered to 20 Grade 11 students who had studied the topic, and the responses were analyzed with Winsteps 5.9.0. Principal Component Analysis of Residuals showed that 78.6% of the raw variance was explained by the Rasch measures, indicating a dominant primary dimension. However, the first residual contrast eigenvalue of 4.0963 suggested possible secondary structure. Ten items met the fit criteria, three items (S2, S3, and S6) were misfitting, and five items (S10–S14) were overfitting. Person reliability ranged from 0.95 , while item reliability ranged from 0.96 and was classified as excellent, demonstrating high measurement consistency. Differential Item Functioning analysis identified no statistically significant gender-based item bias. Item difficulty ranged from ?4.02 logits for S15 to 3.12 logits for S3. The Wright Map revealed broad difficulty coverage but also gaps across the ability continuum. Overall, the instrument demonstrated promising preliminary quality, although several items still require revision and further testing with a larger, more diverse student sample and a more balanced gender composition.

Abstract

Perineal wounds are a common complication in postpartum women and require optimal healing to prevent infection and accelerate maternal recovery. Adequate energy and protein intake play a crucial role in wound healing through collagen formation and tissue regeneration. However, the relationship between adequate energy and protein intake and wound healing, as assessed using the REEDA score, requires further study. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between adequate energy and protein intake and the REEDA score for perineal wounds in postpartum women at the Wijaya Kusuma Clinic, Kepanjen, Malang Regency. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of the study consisted of 30 postpartum mothers with first- and second-degree perineal wounds selected using a purposive sampling technique. Energy and protein intake data were obtained using a 24-hour food recall form, which was administered three times on days 2, 4, and 7 of the postpartum periods. The average value was then calculated to determine the category of adequate intake. Wound healing was assessed using the REEDA (Redness, Edema, Ecchymosis, Discharge, Approximation) instrument. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The results of the study showed that based on the average results of food recall on days 2, 4, and 7, most respondents had sufficient energy intake (66.7%) and sufficient protein intake (60%). There was a significant relationship between sufficient energy intake and REEDA score (r = -0.520; p < 0.001), which indicates a negative relationship with moderate strength, as well as between sufficient protein intake and REEDA score (r = -0.279; p = 0.008), which indicates a negative relationship with weak strength. There is a relationship between adequate energy and protein intake and the REEDA score of perineal wounds in postpartum mothers. The better the energy and protein intake, the lower the REEDA score, indicating improved perineal wound healing

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using Google Slides assisted by Pear Deck on the Biology learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students on the topic of photosynthesis. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design, was employed, involving an experimental class taught using Google Slides assisted by Pear Deck and a control class taught using conventional methods. Data were collected through tests, documentation, and field notes, and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 29, including the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, an independent-samples t-test, and Cohen's d effect size calculation. The results indicate that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, and the independent-samples t-test showed a statistically significant difference in posttest scores between the experimental and control groups, with a large effect size. These findings suggest that Google Slides assisted by Pear Deck significantly and substantially improves student learning outcomes in Biology compared to conventional instruction. The study recommends the wider adoption of interactive digital media in Biology teaching, particularly for abstract topics requiring visualization and active student engagement.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever remains an important public-health problem in Indonesia, where household behavior and environmental conditions influence opportunities for Aedes mosquito breeding and disease transmission. This study examined the relationship between community behavior and previous dengue hemorrhagic fever occurrence in the service area of Teling Community Health Center, Manado City. A descriptive-analytic cross-sectional design was used with 30 respondents. Community behavior was categorized as sufficient, good, or poor, whereas dengue occurrence was classified as ever or never experienced. Univariate distributions and a Chi-Square test were used for analysis. Poor behavior was the most frequent category, reported by 17 respondents (56.6%), followed by good behavior in 8 (26.7%) and sufficient behavior in 5 (16.7%). Twenty-one respondents (70.0%) reported previous dengue, while 9 (30.0%) had never experienced dengue. Among respondents with previous dengue, 14 (66.7%) were in the poor-behavior category. The Chi-Square analysis yielded p = 0.026, indicating a statistically significant association between community behavior and dengue occurrence in the study sample. These findings support sustained community-centered dengue prevention emphasizing environmental hygiene, household vector control, accessible health information, larval control, and locally appropriate surveillance measures.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of an artificial-intelligence (AI) learning medium using pose-estimation technology to improve elementary school students’ fundamental movement skills in physical education. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control-group design was employed. Participants were 60 fifth-grade students assigned to an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). For six weeks, the experimental group learned with an AI medium that detected body keypoints, compared joint angles and movement sequences with reference models, and provided immediate visual feedback. The control group received teacher demonstrations and conventional video instruction. Fundamental movement skills were assessed through an observation rubric covering locomotor and non-locomotor components. Data were analyzed using paired-samples t tests, an independent-samples t test, normalized gain, and Cohen’s d. The experimental group improved from 58.43±7.84 to 82.17±9.33, while the control group improved from 57.77±7.61 to 70.53±11.11. The difference in gain scores was statistically significant (t=5.679; p<.001), with a large effect size (d=1.47). The AI medium was particularly useful for correcting knee–hip alignment, trunk position, step rhythm, and balance stability. These findings indicate that pose estimation can serve as augmented feedback that supports more objective movement monitoring. Nevertheless, its pedagogical use requires teacher supervision, appropriate camera placement, adequate lighting, and robust student-data privacy procedures.

Abstract

Patient safety incident reporting provides important information for identifying hazards and improving hospital safety. This study aimed to describe temporal trends and patterns of reported patient safety incidents over 12 years in a private hospital in Pekalongan Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. A retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was conducted using patient safety incident reports recorded from 2009 to 2020. Total sampling identified 389 reported incidents, which were classified as adverse events (KTD), no-harm incidents (KTC), near misses (KNC), potentially unsafe conditions (KPC), and sentinel events. Near misses were the most frequently reported category (179; 46.0%), followed by adverse events (109; 28.0%) and no-harm incidents (98; 25.2%). Annual reporting increased from 6 incidents in 2009 to 48 in 2013, fluctuated during 2015–2019, and declined to 25 in 2020. Falls accounted for 81 (74.3%) adverse events, while medication-related incidents represented 66 (36.9%) near misses and 41 (41.8%) no-harm incidents. No sentinel events were recorded. The findings indicate that near misses provide valuable proactive safety information, while falls and medication-related incidents represent key priorities for prevention. Changes in reporting volume should be interpreted cautiously because they may reflect differences in detection and reporting practices as well as incident occurrence.
