Abstract

Science learning in elementary schools aims to help students understand scientific concepts through observation and real experiences. This study aims to describe the improvement of fifth-grade elementary school students' conceptual understanding related to the properties of light through the application of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning model. SDN 2 Cilumba conducted the study, employing the pre-experimental method of a one-group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used included a concept understanding test and interviews. The results of data analysis showed a significant increase in students' average scores, from 58.81 (pretest) to 78.53 (posttest). The paired t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the STEM model was effective in improving students' conceptual understanding. The results of the interviews revealed that students were enthusiastic about participating in STEM-based learning, even though teachers faced time constraints and students had difficulty restating concepts. Overall, the majority of students were in the good understanding category (60.01%), excellent (26.66%), and sufficient (13.33%). These findings reinforce that the STEM approach can be an alternative to meaningful and intriguing science learning at the elementary school level.

Abstract

The problem addressed in this research is the low interest in mathematics learning among second-grade students at SDN Demangan, which is attributed to conventional teaching methods and the minimal use of technology in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to enhance students' interest in mathematics by implementing the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) approach. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the spiral model developed by Kemmis and McTaggart, which includes planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research was conducted in two cycles during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using observation and a learning interest questionnaire and analyzed using the Guttman Scale in percentage form. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' learning interest: in the pre-cycle stage, student interest was at 45% (categorized as sufficient), increased to 70% in the first cycle (high category), and reached 87% in the second cycle (very high category). The application of the TPACK approach successfully created a more engaging and enjoyable learning environment, encouraging student participation. This study concludes that the TPACK approach is effective in increasing the interest of second-grade students in mathematics learning at Demangan Elementary School, Kudus.

Abstract

This class action research aims to improve the cooperation attitude of fifth-grade students through the application of the problem-based learning (PBL) model in Pancasila education subjects. This research employs a class action approach and utilizes both qualitative and quantitative methods. The design of this study provides two cycles, and each cycle consists of several stages, namely planning, observation or action, and reflection. The results of this study indicate that (1) before implementing the problem-based learning (PBL) model in Pancasila education, the cooperation attitude of fifth-grade students at SDN Mangunsari 02 was measured at 51%, which falls under the “less” criteria. (2) After cycle I, grade V students at SDN Mangunsari 02 showed an increased cooperation attitude in learning Pancasila education, reaching a percentage of 73% with “sufficient” criteria. (3) After the second cycle, fifth-grade students at SDN Mangunsari 02 showed an increased cooperation attitude in learning Pancasila education, reaching 86% with the criteria “Good.” So that the class assessment was stopped in cycle II because it had reached the success indicator with a minimum percentage of 80% with “Good” criteria. It can be seen that there is a significant increase between the percentage value before action and after action, and it can be concluded that the problem-based learning (PBL) learning model can increase the attitude of cooperation in pan education subjects.

This study investigates the integration of humanistic learning theory with a deep learning approach in science education for fourth-grade students at SDN 108/1 Sungai Rumbai. We used a descriptive qualitative method and purposive sampling to select 14 students who actively participated in science learning. The research utilized validated instruments, including observation sheets, questionnaires, and student reflection notes, with a validity score ≥ 0.80 and reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha) of 0.85. Data were analyzed thematically for qualitative aspects and using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon test for quantitative learning outcomes. Findings indicate significant improvements in student engagement, understanding of concepts, and emotional expression. Learning activities, supported by Canva and Wordwall, fostered interactive and joyful learning environments. Students demonstrated increased focus, confidence, and the ability to relate science material to personal experiences. Before the intervention, only 68% of students met learning targets, whereas after the implementation, 91.7% achieved satisfactory outcomes. Despite limitations in sample size and duration, the study emphasizes the promise of combining psychological theory and digital tools to improve science learning outcomes. This integration offers a promising model for 21st-century learning that is mindful, meaningful, and emotionally engaging.
