Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparative education policies of Indonesia and Finland, focusing on curriculum, teacher autonomy, educational equity, and evaluation systems, and their implications for national education reform. This research uses a qualitative approach with a comparative study method through a review of academic literature. The results indicate that fundamental differences between the two countries lie not only in policy design but also in the paradigm of educational governance. Indonesia tends to adopt a control-based governance approach characterized by reactive curriculum changes, a predominance of standards-based evaluations, and a high administrative burden on teachers. In contrast, Finland implements trust-based governance, emphasizing policy stability, teacher professional autonomy, equity-based equity, and formative evaluation oriented toward student development. These findings reveal a mismatch between Indonesia's educational goals, which focus on developing competencies and character, and policy instruments that are still based on control and standardization. As a contribution, this study offers a hybrid governance model framework that integrates policy accountability with strengthening trust in teacher professionalism. Policy implications include long-term curriculum simplification, reducing teacher administrative burdens, strengthening area-based interventions for educational equity, and transforming the evaluation system toward diagnostic and formative assessments.

Abstract

This study investigates phonological interference in a bilingual context, focusing on how Javanese phonology influences the pronunciation of Indonesian. Using Optimality Theory (OT) as its primary framework, the study examines patterns of interference, their underlying causes, and their broader social and educational implications. Fieldwork was conducted in Gampong Karang Anyar, Langsa, Aceh, involving six students from SDN 1 Karang Anyar who are Javanese–Indonesian bilingual speakers. Participants were selected through purposive sampling based on their linguistic backgrounds. Data were collected through interviews and audio recordings and were qualitatively analyzed within the framework of Optimality Theory (OT). The findings reveal systematic phoneme shifts: /d/ changes to /t/ (ahad → [a.hat]), /f/ changes to /p/ (foto → [po.to]), and /b/ changes to /p/ (sabtu → [sa.ptu]). These shifts reflect the dominance of Javanese phonological constraints. The study adopts a qualitative approach supported by relevant linguistic literature. The results indicate that phonological interference strongly influences communication and language acquisition, resulting in a combination of features from both languages. These findings have direct implications for language education, highlighting the need for pronunciation instruction that anticipates bilingual transfer, curriculum design that incorporates contrastive phonological analysis, and teacher training that enables educators to distinguish random errors from systematic interference. By linking OT with classroom practice, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of phonological transfer in bilingual speech and its relevance to language education in multilingual Indonesian contexts. Ultimately, the study provides empirical evidence for the operation of OT constraints in Javanese–Indonesian bilingual speech, shedding light on patterns of phonological transfer and offering insights for pronunciation pedagogy in multilingual educational settings.

Abstract

This systematic review examines the conceptualisation, pedagogical benefits, and challenges of Islamised English Language Teaching (ELT) materials in Muslim educational contexts. Using the PRISMA framework, 24 peer-reviewed studies published between 2022 and 2026 were systematically identified from Google Scholar. The review included empirical journal articles on Islamised ELT materials or the integration of Islamic values into English language teaching, while books, conference proceedings, theses, dissertations, review articles, inaccessible publications, and non-ELT studies were excluded. The selected timeframe captures recent developments in culturally responsive pedagogy and the growing interest in contextualising English education within Muslim educational settings. The findings show that Islamised ELT materials are generally viewed as culturally responsive resources that integrate Islamic values, learners’ identities, and local contexts into English learning while still supporting global communication. The reviewed studies indicate that these materials can enhance students’ motivation, engagement, identity affirmation, character development, and contextualised learning experiences. They also encourage more reflective and value-based teaching practices. However, challenges remain such as limited teacher preparation, lack of contextualised resources, rigid curricula, and concerns about balancing local values with global perspectives. The review suggests that Islamised ELT materials have strong potential to make English learning more meaningful and relevant for Muslim learners when supported by appropriate material design, teacher training, and institutional support.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in fostering ecotheological awareness among students at SMP Negeri 15 Takengon. The study was conducted in Central Aceh Regency, a region characterized by its rich natural environment, strong Islamic traditions, and the distinctive local wisdom of the Gayo community, which emphasizes harmony between humans and nature. This research uses a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving two PAI teachers, the principal, students, and environmental staff. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that PAI teachers apply strategies such as value-based learning, role modeling, habituation, religious activities, and environmental care practices integrated into daily school life. Students’ ecotheological awareness is reflected in their attitudes toward cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and their understanding that environmental stewardship is part of their religious obligation, although it is not yet fully optimal. Several challenges were identified, including low student awareness, lack of consistency in habits, and limited support for environmental programs. It can be concluded that PAI teachers play an important role in fostering ecotheological awareness through integrated and continuous strategies. Strengthening ecotheological values in Islamic education is essential to develop environmentally responsible students based on religious principles and local cultural values.

Abstract

Spatial ability is an important aspect of human intelligence related to the skills of understanding, manipulating, and remembering the relationships between objects in space. This study aims to analyze the spatial abilities of 10th-grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Langsa in solving geometry problems. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a sample of 20 10th-grade accounting students at SMK Negeri 1 Langsa during the odd semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Subsequently, 3 students were selected for further analysis. The data collection techniques used included spatial ability tests, and interviews. The results showed that students’ spatial abilities fell into varying categories: high, moderate, and low. When examined by individual indicators, spatial perception achieved the highest scores, while mental rotation had the lowest scores. This indicates that students tend to be able to recognize three-dimensional shapes but still struggle to mentally visualize and manipulate the rotation of these shapes when solving geometry problems. The results of data triangulation showed consistency between the test results and the interviews, thereby strengthening the validity of the research data. Thus, it can be concluded that students’ spatial abilities in solving geometry problems have not yet developed optimally across all indicators, particularly in the aspect of mental rotation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) within the context of an AI-integrated, STEM-based Basic Statistics course and to describe the role of AI in supporting the development of these skills. A qualitative, descriptive research approach was employed. The subjects consisted of three students from the Mathematics Education program enrolled in the Basic Statistics course, selected purposively based on high, medium, and low ability levels. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and HOTS-based assignment sheets. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model—comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing—while data validity was verified through source and method triangulation. The results indicate that high-ability students were capable of critically analyzing, evaluating, and reflecting on statistical problem-solving processes and effectively utilizing AI as a learning aid. Medium-ability students demonstrated an understanding of concepts and the ability to use technology, though their evaluative and creative skills remained limited. Meanwhile, low-ability students tended to rely on procedural approaches, example solutions, and instant answers, showing suboptimal performance in contextual analysis and reflection. AI played a role in facilitating conceptual understanding, data analysis, answer evaluation, and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills; however, its use required a critical mindset to avoid dependency. This study provides empirical insights into the characteristics of students' HOTS in an AI-integrated, STEM-based Basic Statistics course, offering a reference for developing instructional strategies aimed at enhancing higher-order thinking skills in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Self Organized Learning Environment (SOLE) learning model on students’ mathematical problem solving ability and self confidence. The research used a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Posttest Only Control Group Design involving 63 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 29 Bandar Lampung. Data were collected through essay tests and self confidence questionnaires. Instrument validity and reliability were verified using Pearson Product Moment correlation and Cronbach’s Alpha. The MANOVA hypothesis test showed: (1) a simultaneous effect of the SOLE model on both dependent variables; (2) a significant effect on mathematical problem solving ability; and (3) a significant effect on self confidence. The mean post-test score of the experimental class (79.25) was substantially higher than the control class (47.94), and the mean self confidence score of the experimental class was also higher. These results indicate that the SOLE learning model is effective in improving students’ mathematical problem solving ability and self confidence.
