Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using information technology-based board game media on the symbolic thinking skills of children aged 5-6 years at Mentari Kindergarten. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design of the Nonequivalent Control Group Design type. The sample consisted of 20 children, who were divided into two groups: 10 children as the experimental group and 10 children as the control group. The experimental group was given treatment using IT-based board game media, while the control group used conventional media in the form of picture flashcards. Data collection techniques include observation, testing, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon test with the help of SPSS version 23. The results of the study showed a significant increase in children's symbolic thinking skills in the experimental group with a Z value = -2.689 and p = 0.007 (p < 0.05), while the control group did not show a significant increase with p = 0.066 (p > 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that IT-based board game media is effective in improving the symbolic thinking skills of early childhood

Abstract

Symbolic thinking is a crucial ability in the cognitive development of early childhood, particularly in the 4–5-year age range. At this stage, children begin to recognize and use symbols such as numbers and letters in their daily activities. This study aims to describe the role of play-based media in stimulating the development of symbolic thinking in early childhood. The research was conducted at RA ABC in Tasikmalaya City using a descriptive qualitative approach through observation of children's play activities, interviews with teachers, and documentation of the learning process. The research subjects consisted of 12 children from Group A and two classroom teachers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The results show that play media designed in an engaging and developmentally appropriate manner can effectively facilitate the gradual understanding of symbols. The children not only recognized the forms of symbols but also began to associate them with meaning or function within the context of play. These findings support Piaget's concept of symbolic representation and expand its application in early childhood education settings. The novelty of this study lies in the design of the symbol media, which integrates elements of numeracy and literacy into a unified play experience. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of developing a play-based early childhood curriculum, providing innovative and accessible media for teachers, and enhancing teacher capacity in facilitating symbolic learning in a joyful and meaningful way

Abstract

Expressive language skills are an important aspect in early childhood development because they play a role in conveying ideas, feelings, and experiences verbally. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of two children in group B at Aisyiyah 2 Kindergarten in Tasikmalaya, the class teacher, and the principal as supporting informants. The results showed that children have varied language development, ranging from passive to being able to construct coherent sentences. The modeling strategies used by teachers include providing verbal examples, facial expressions, gestures, and are adaptive to the child's characteristics and have proven effective in increasing speaking courage and sentence construction skills. Modeling-based scaffolding is an effective strategy in helping early childhood develop expressive language in a gradual, contextual, and meaningful manner. This study strengthens Vygotsky's theory of scaffolding and Bandura's social learning theory through the role of modeling in children's language development. Early childhood teachers are advised to use a modeling approach in daily interactions as a language stimulation strategy that is adaptive and responsive to characteristics.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of creativity among children aged 5–6 years at TK Joy Kids National Plus Tasikmalaya, based on four main aspects: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. A quantitative descriptive method was used, involving 20 children as participants. The results showed that most children were at a moderate level of creativity, with notable strengths in generating many ideas (fluency) and coming up with unique ideas (originality). However, the ability to think from different perspectives (flexibility) varied among children, and the skill of developing ideas in more detail (elaboration) was still in progress. Based on these findings, it is recommended that learning strategies be adjusted to each child's needs and that the learning environment be made more stimulating to help develop their creativity more effectively. The implication of this study is the need to develop more flexible, contextual, and child-centered learning strategies to support the equal development and enhancement of all aspects of creativity—particularly flexibility and elaboration—while also acknowledging the limitation in generalizability, as the research was conducted at a single institution

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of ice breaking wire game activities on the concentration of early childhood learning. This study is based on the low level of children's concentration in the learning process which causes them to be easily distracted and have difficulty in completing tasks. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a sample of 8 people in group B at Al-Bayyinah Kindergarten as the control class and 8 people in group B at Al-Barokah Kindergarten as the experimental class. The data collection technique uses an observation sheet that covers three aspects of concentration, namely focus, duration of attention and suitability in working. The analysis used is descriptive statistics to describe data in both numerical and visual forms while inferential statistics to draw conclusions about a population based on data. The results of the study showed that there was a significant increase in children's learning concentration in the experimental class after being given treatment in the form of ice breaking wire game activities. This is evidenced by the N-gain value of the experimental class of 0.88 with a high category, while the N-gain value of the control class was only 0.093. In addition, it can be seen from the Mann Whitney U test the Asymp value. Sig.(2-tailed) 0.002 which is less than 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected which means that there is an influence of the effectiveness of ice breaking wire game activities in developing the learning concentration abilities of early childhood children and there is a difference in the learning concentration abilities of early childhood children from both the experimental and control classes

Abstract

Language development is one of the essential indicators that reflects the cognitive, social, and emotional growth of early childhood. This ability is strongly influenced by the learning environment, particularly in early childhood education institutions. However, preliminary observations at Shabrina Islamic Kindergarten, Nanggalo District, Padang City, revealed that some children still experienced limited vocabulary and unclear pronunciation, while the teaching methods applied by teachers tended to be conventional and did not fully motivate children to actively use language. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the singing method in developing children’s language skills. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 10 children who participated in learning activities through the singing method. Data were collected using language ability tests administered before and after the treatment, and the results were analyzed using a t-test with Equality of Variances. The findings showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores with a significance level (Sig) < 0.05. These results indicate that the singing method effectively enhances children’s language abilities. The study concludes that singing can serve as an alternative learning strategy that is enjoyable, interactive, and capable of stimulating vocabulary enrichment and pronunciation improvement in early childhood. The implication suggests that incorporating music-based learning methods into early childhood education curricula is crucial to support children’s optimal language development

Abstract

This study investigates the limitations of facilities and infrastructure in the Early Childhood Islamic Education (PIAUD) program in Binjai Village and explores alternative solutions to enhance the quality of early childhood education. Adequate educational facilities and resources are crucial for supporting effective learning, particularly in developing children’s listening comprehension skills and overall cognitive development. The research employed a case study design with a qualitative approach, complemented by descriptive statistical analysis to strengthen data interpretation. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and school principals, and documentation. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring issues, while frequency counts and percentage distributions were applied to highlight the extent of facility limitations. The findings indicate that physical facilities, including classrooms, learning media, and educational toys, are significantly limited in PIAUD institutions in Binjai Village. These constraints negatively affect the teaching–learning process and hinder the development of children’s potential, particularly in language acquisition and listening comprehension skills. Key contributing factors include inadequate government budget allocation, insufficient teacher training, and low levels of community engagement. To address these challenges, the study proposes several alternative solutions: optimizing local resources, strengthening partnerships with private sectors and donor agencies, and establishing community-based teacher training programs. Implementing these strategies is expected to improve the quality, sustainability, and equity of early childhood education services in Binjai Village

Abstract

Teachers play a central role in determining the success of education, especially at the early childhood education level. In facing the challenges of the 21st century, which demand digital literacy and increasingly complex professional competencies, prospective early childhood education teachers (PAUD) need to be comprehensively prepared through educational programs that integrate theory and practice. This study aims to describe the competency levels of PGPAUD students at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia during their participation in the Professional Education Strengthening Program (P3K). The research employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive method, and the data were analyzed using frequency tabulation to illustrate the distribution. The sample consists of 191 students selected through proportional random sampling. The research instrument used was a Likert scale questionnaire measuring three key aspects of competence: knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The results showed that 53.40% of students fell into the very high category and 46.60% into the high category, with no respondents in the medium, low, or very low categories. These findings indicate that PGPAUD UPI students possess strong competencies as prospective professional teachers ready to meet the demands of 21st-century education. The theoretical contribution of this study reinforces Mulyasa’s theory of teacher competence, which emphasizes the importance of mastery in knowledge, skills, and attitudes as the main pillars of teacher competence. Practically, the results of this study can serve as an evaluation and continuous improvement tool for the curriculum and implementation of the P3K Program, thereby better preparing PGPAUD students to become professional, adaptive, and innovative teachers

Abstract

Social-emotional development in early childhood is a crucial foundation for shaping children's character and interpersonal skills in the future. However, learning activities that lack collaborative social interaction often hinder this development. This study aims to examine the effect of the traditional game Ular Naga (Dragon Snake) on the social-emotional development of children aged 5–6 years at TK Insan Masagena. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group model. The sample consisted of 16 children selected through purposive sampling, with 8 children in the experimental group and 8 in the control group. Data were collected through observation, testing, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed an Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.012 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference before and after treatment in the experimental group. Thus, the Ular Naga game has a positive and significant impact on children's social-emotional development. These findings imply that incorporating traditional games into early childhood education can be an effective strategy for enhancing children’s social and emotional skills in an engaging and natural way. The main contribution of this study lies in strengthening the literature on integrating local cultural elements into holistic and contextual learning approaches in early childhood education, while also promoting the revitalization of traditional games as developmental tools
