Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of busy book media on the literacy skills of children aged 5-6 years at Teratai Makkasar University Kindergarten. The research approach used is a quantitative approach with a Quasi Experimental Design research type using a Non-equivalent Control Group design. The population in this study was 55 children. Sampling used Purposive Sampling technique. The sample consisted of 32 children, 16 children in the experimental group who used busy book media and 16 children in the control group who used alphabet poster media. The data analysis technique used was descriptive statistical analysis and parametric statistical analysis using normality tests, homogeneity tests and hypothesis tests using SPSS version 21. The results showed a significant increase in children's literacy skills in the experimental group with an average value of 23.75, while the control group had an average value of 17.44. Data analysis obtained from the test conducted was Asym (2-tailed) = 0.000 <0.05 meaning  was accepted and  was rejected. Thus, the literacy skills of children in the experimental group were better than those of the control group, this proves that the use of busy book media has a significant influence on the literacy skills of children aged 5-6 years at Makassar University Teratai Kindergarten

Abstract

This study was motivated by the efforts of school principals to improve the pedagogical competence of kindergarten teachers in Lembah Melintang Subdistrict, which have not yet reached optimal results. In the classroom, some teachers were found using mobile phones while teaching or relying on them due to a lack of mastery of teaching materials. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method to examine the relationship between the democratic leadership style of school principals and the pedagogical competence of teachers in kindergarten. The subjects consisted of all principals and teachers at kindergartens in Lembah Melintang Subdistrict. The results showed a positive and significant correlation between the democratic leadership style of school principals and teachers’ pedagogical competence, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. This indicates a strong relationship: the higher the level of democratic leadership, the higher the teachers’ pedagogical competence, and vice versa. These findings highlight the importance of democratic leadership in enhancing teachers’ pedagogical competence through participation, support, and a collaborative and professional working environment.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation of the traditional jump rope game for children aged 5–6 years at Gracia Sudiang Kindergarten. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation of the principal, teachers, and 15 children aged 5–6 years in classes B.3 and B.4. The results showed that the implementation of the jump rope game in a structured and integrated manner in learning activities was able to improve gross motor skills such as motor coordination, balance, and agility. In addition, children's social-emotional aspects such as the ability to wait for turns, work together, manage emotions, and foster self-confidence also increased. Supporting factors in implementation include teacher involvement, school support, and children's enthusiasm. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include limited time, weather, and the influence of gadgets. This study concluded that the traditional jump rope game is an effective and contextual learning medium in developing the physical and social skills of early childhood

Abstract

This This study aims to examine the influence of principal supervision on kindergarten teacher performance in Baleendah District, and to determine whether there are performance differences based on school accreditation levels. A quantitative approach was used with 82 teacher participants from 20 kindergartens accredited at levels A, B, and C. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression and one-way ANOVA. The results indicate that supervision significantly influences teacher performance, while no significant differences were found based on accreditation level. These findings highlight the importance of supervision quality over institutional status. The study recommends implementing reflective and participatory supervision to sustainably improve teacher performance

Abstract

This research is motivated by the suboptimal use of digital media in schools for learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the need for developing interactive digital media in STEAM learning. This study uses the Educational Design Research (EDR) method with a qualitative approach, through observations and interviews with four early childhood education institutions in Tasikmalaya City. The results show that schools have not optimally utilized the digital media provided by the school. Media use in learning is 70% for YouTube videos, 15% for PPT, and 10% for quiz-based games. This is due to teachers' lack of understanding of digital media usage, so they cannot utilize it optimally. The results show that 90% of children are more focused and understand the material delivered through digital media. Therefore, digital media affects cognitive abilities, especially in the ability to understand concepts and materials. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify differences in language development between children who go to center-based kindergartens and children who go to regular kindergartens. The method used uses a quantitative approach and statistical analysis (independent sample t-test) to test the hypothesis objectively. The subjects of the study consisted of children aged 4-6 years who attended both types of kindergartens. Language development data were collected through observation and language development tests that measured aspects of speaking, listening, vocabulary, and communication skills. The results showed that children in kindergarten centers had significantly better language development compared to children in regular kindergartens. This is due to the center-based learning model which provides more intensive language stimulation through structured play activities and more interaction

Abstract

This study aims to develop educational play equipment (APE) made from recycled materials as a learning medium that can support the language development of early childhood at Pembina 2 Pekanbaru State Kindergarten. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall development model. The resulting product is a learning medium made from recycled materials designed to stimulate children's language skills. The results of the study indicate that this learning medium is considered feasible and practical for use by experts, teachers, and students. These findings confirm that the recycled material-based media developed is effective in supporting the improvement of early childhood language skills while instilling the values ​​of creativity and environmental awareness

Abstract

This study addresses the scarcity of research on the professionalism of kindergarten teachers in relation to salary and work motivation, despite its substantial impact on the quality of early childhood education in Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research involved six kindergarten teachers (n = 6) from Tawang and Cipedes sub-districts, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, direct observation, and document analysis, and analyzed thematically to identify recurring patterns and themes. Findings reveal that low salary remains a major barrier to improving teacher welfare and professionalism, whereas intrinsic work motivation—such as passion for teaching and commitment to children’s development—remains consistently high among participants. School-led initiatives, including professional training and non-financial rewards, positively influence teacher confidence and professional competence, yet do not fully address financial challenges. The study confirms the relevance of Herzberg’s two-factor theory, indicating that both salary (hygiene factor) and motivation (motivator factor) are critical for fostering professionalism in early childhood education. Ethical approval was obtained from relevant authorities, and informed consent was secured from all participants. The results offer theoretical insights into teacher professionalism and practical implications for policymakers and school leaders to design effective welfare policies and professional development programs

Abstract

Early literacy is a crucial foundation in early childhood education; however, many preschool children in Indonesia still face challenges due to less engaging instructional strategies. This study aimed to examine the effect of the ABC Magnet Book on the literacy skills of children aged 4–5 years at TK Bina Harapanku, Takalar. Using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15), the intervention was implemented in five sessions of manipulative and multisensory learning activities. Data were collected through performance-based observations and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (M = 18.4 ± 2.1) compared to the control group (M = 14.2 ± 2.6), with a moderate effect size (r = 0.45; Z = −3.430; p = 0.001). A total of 33.3% of children in the experimental group reached the “Very Well Developed” category, compared to only 6.6% in the control group. These findings emphasize that play-based and interactive media are effective in fostering phonemic awareness and early literacy. Nevertheless, limitations related to the small sample size (n = 15 per group) and purposive sampling should be considered when generalizing the results. The ABC Magnet Book is recommended as an engaging and practical alternative for enhancing early literacy in preschool education

Abstract

The integration of technology in early childhood education represents a strategic response to the challenges of 21st-century learning, particularly within the Merdeka Belajar (Independent Learning) era that emphasizes institutional innovation and autonomy. This study aims to describe the implementation of interactive web-based tools in thematic learning for early childhood in Ponorogo, Indonesia. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving teachers and students as participants. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that (1) the use of interactive web tools with visual and audio features significantly enhanced children’s engagement in the learning process; (2) thematic activities became more meaningful by connecting content with children’s daily experiences; (3) teachers benefited from the tools by designing more varied and developmentally appropriate learning activities; and (4) challenges arose from limited digital infrastructure and varying levels of teacher readiness in utilizing technology. These results highlight that integrating interactive web tools is a relevant and promising digital innovation to improve the quality of thematic learning in early childhood education, provided that continuous teacher training and adequate infrastructure are ensured
