Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to analyze the influence of the sustainable cleanliness movement on students' level of environmental awareness. Environmental conservation activities through the sustainable cleanliness movement conducted by students are carried out on campus. The sustainable cleanliness movement activities carried out by students on campus reflect the application of the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, which focuses on strengthening local assets such as skills, motivation, and student networks. Direct participation in activities such as waste collection and environmental education has been shown to significantly increase student engagement and foster social responsibility towards the environment. The implementation of these activities has also succeeded in instilling important values such as environmental awareness and a spirit of cooperation. Given the positive impacts generated, it is highly recommended that similar activities be held regularly and periodically to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection. The campus or student groups are encouraged to continue implementing the sustainable environmental cleanliness program for the ongoing benefits of all parties on campus.

Abstract

The community service program through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) aims to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Naga Kesiangan Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, through education on papaya processing innovations as an effort to strengthen the local economy. This village has abundant papaya production potential, but its utilization is still limited to selling fresh fruit, so that the economic added value is not optimal. The program implementation method uses a participatory approach that includes field observations, focus group discussions, training and demonstrations of papaya processing, packaging and branding assistance, and evaluation of activity results. The training focused on making processed papaya products such as dodol, chips, and jam, accompanied by strengthening knowledge of business management and simple marketing. The results of the activity showed an increase in community knowledge and skills in processing papaya into value-added products, increased interest in entrepreneurship, and the formation of papaya-based business groups as a step to program sustainability. The resulting processed products have a higher selling value than fresh papaya and have the potential to increase household income. This program contributes to strengthening the capacity of MSMEs, encouraging the utilization of local potential, and supporting sustainable village economic development.

Abstract

Environmental cleanliness is an important aspect in creating a healthy, safe, and comfortable community life. Cleanliness problems in Waru District, Sidoarjo Regency, arise due to low environmental awareness, minimal sanitation facilities, and community behavior patterns formed by social and cultural factors. The purpose of this activity is to analyze and find participatory solutions to community cleanliness problems through the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach emphasizes active community involvement in the process of problem identification, action planning, activity implementation, and continuous reflection of results. Data collection was carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, group discussions, and activity documentation. The results of the activity show that community participation in community service activities, community discussions, and the preparation of cleanliness programs resulted in increased environmental awareness, increased social solidarity, and the formation of a collective commitment to maintaining cleanliness. The provision of additional facilities such as waste bin arrangement, improved waste management systems, and the involvement of community leaders have a positive impact on the sustainability of the program. Based on this description, it can be concluded that the implementation of PAR is effective in building a culture of clean living because the community acts as both the subject and the primary partner in change. Active citizen involvement has been proven to strengthen environmentally conscious behavior and create sustainable cleanliness solutions.

Abstract

Community participation in environmental cleanliness activities is an important factor in realizing a healthy, comfortable, and sustainable environment. However, the level of participation is greatly influenced by the quality of environmental education and community empowerment programs carried out by various parties, including the government, educational institutions, and social organizations. This service activity aims to analyze how environmental education and community empowerment can increase citizens' awareness, willingness, and direct involvement in environmental cleanliness activities. This activity uses a descriptive approach combined with the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which involves the community directly in the process of identifying problems, planning, action, and reflection related to cleaning activities, as well as mapping the community's local assets and potential, such as the ability of residents, youth groups, village facilities, and the support of educational institutions, as the main driving force for cleaning activities. Education is provided through counseling, coaching, group discussions, and hands-on practice, while empowerment is carried out by providing space for the community to be involved in decision-making and implementation. The results of the analysis show that sustainable education is able to increase public understanding of the importance of environmental cleanliness, while empowerment through Participatory Action Research (PAR) fosters a sense of belonging, independence, and responsibility for the community. Both have been proven to have a significant influence on increasing community participation in environmental cleanliness activities.
