Abstract

The many negative effects on the use of chemical-based medicine have made researchers increasingly interested in looking for alternative natural ingredients that have high therapeutic potential and minimal side effects. One of the plants that is often used as a medicinal ingredient is cardamom (Amomum cardamomum L.), which comes from the Zingiberaceae family. Cardamom has been widely used by the community as an aromatic, carmimental (reducing gas in the stomach), cough medicine, mouth freshener, and various other traditional medicines. The content of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins in cardamom is believed to play an important role in providing pharmacological effects. This study aims to analyze the bioactivity level of toxicity of cardamom leaf ethanol extract against shrimp larvae Artemia salina L. using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method and determine the LC₅₀ value as a toxicity parameter. The research method used an experimental quantitative approach with six treatment concentrations, namely 25 ppm, 50 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 500 ppm, and 1000 ppm, as well as one negative control. Each treatment was replicated five times to get accurate results. A total of 350 Artemia salina larvae were used, with 10 larvae for each concentration test. Larval mortality was calculated after 24 hours of treatment to determine the potential toxicity of the extract. In addition to laboratory research, community service programs are carried out to increase coastal communities' understanding of the use of cardamom leaves for pond shrimp larvae. This education is important because the results of the research are expected to be the basis for the use of natural materials that are safer, more environmentally friendly, and sustainable in the management of shrimp ponds.

Abstract

Nosocomial infections, acquired by patients during their stay in healthcare facilities, pose a significant challenge to service quality and cost efficiency. These infections worsen patient conditions and strain the healthcare system. In Indonesia, prevalence ranges from 10–15%, highlighting the need for effective prevention strategies. This community service program involved health education at Mitra Medika Tanjung Mulia Hospital to enhance patient and family awareness of nosocomial infection prevention. Activities included systematic planning, educational material development, and hands-on prevention training. As a result, participants' understanding increased from 45% to 85%, with compliance reaching 80%. However, challenges remain, such as limited resources and varying adherence levels. Therefore, continuous education, facility improvements, and regular evaluations are necessary to reduce nosocomial infection rates and enhance patient safety in healthcare settings.

Early menarche in elementary school children means that children need to have knowledge about menstruation from an early age. Knowledge about menstruation affects children's responses during their first menstruation and personal hygiene during menstruation, so children need correct information about menstruation. This community service aims to provide information about menstruation and complementary therapies, especially relaxation therapy to reduce anxiety and pain. There are four stages in implementing this education, namely the planning stage, preparation stage, implementation stage and monitoring and evaluation stage. There was an increase in students' knowledge after providing education. The results of this community service can show that providing education can increase students' knowledge.

Abstract

The feature video titled “Earning Wages Behind Waste” portrays the lives of a waste picker community in Kampung Pemulung, Jurangmangu Barat, South Tangerang, as a concrete representation of the social dynamics of urban society. This study aims to represent the social reality of waste pickers as part of urban community dynamics through an informative and systematic expository directing approach. The creative process was carried out through three main stages pre-production, production, and post-production which were integrated to produce a coherent, structured, and easily understandable narrative flow for the audience. The expository approach is applied through the use of narration as the primary guiding element to explain the visual context, supported by a logical presentation structure, interviews with informants, and relevant factual data. In the directing process, the author actively organizes the flow of information and integrates visual elements, narration, and interviews to produce a work that is informative, contextual, and educational. Furthermore, cinematographic aspects such as shot variation and camera movement are utilized to support the gradual delivery of information, reinforce visual messages, and maintain objectivity in presentation. The results indicate that the expository approach is effective in presenting the factual reality of waste pickers’ lives and in enhancing audience understanding of their socio-economic conditions in a more comprehensive manner.

Abstract

The rise of the digital business era presents both opportunities and challenges for SME operators, particularly regarding legal aspects of business and unfair competition. This community service initiative aims to enhance the legal literacy and capacity of SME operators in Surakarta through educational and practical legal support. The methods employed included a pre-test to measure initial understanding, a legal needs assessment to identify participants’ legal requirements, the presentation of materials and interactive discussions as forms of intervention, and a post-test to evaluate improvements in understanding. The results of the activity demonstrated a significant improvement in participants’ legal knowledge and awareness, particularly regarding business contracts, digital transactions, and the risks of unfair competition. Furthermore, there was a shift in participants’ mindset, as they began to view the law as a strategic tool in running their businesses. Nevertheless, this initiative still faces challenges such as time constraints and the need for more intensive follow-up support. Consequently, legal support based on the actual needs of MSME operators has proven effective and requires continuous development to strengthen the competitiveness and legal protection of MSMEs in the digital age.

Abstract

This community service program was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah/Pondok Pesantren Al-Mansyuriyah, Tangerang, to provide students with structured experience in English news writing and digital publication through blogs. The program responded to three main partner needs: limited experience in structured English news writing, limited use of blogs for publication, and the need to strengthen students’ digital literacy and writer identity. The activity was designed as a participatory and practice-based training program through three workshops: EFL News Writing, Blogging for EFL News Writing, and English Journal Writing. The evaluation used a pre-survey, a post-survey, observation, and documentation of student blog posts. The pre-survey involved 46 students; 31 students (67.4%) had written English news articles, but 42 students (91.3%) had never used blogs or written blog posts. The post-survey involved 45 students; all respondents (100%) reported that they understood ethical blog publication, and 42 students (93.3%) reported that they could use blogs, images, links, and videos to support their writing. The program produced six student blog posts on pesantren activities, National Santri Day, Teacher’s Day, new student admission, and literacy events. These findings indicate that blog-based genre pedagogy can provide an authentic medium for introducing EFL news writing, digital publication, ethical awareness, and students’ emerging writer identity. Further mentoring is needed to evaluate and improve the linguistic accuracy, news structure, and multimodal quality of students’ writing.
