Abstract

Contemporary professional life increasingly demands strong ethical foundations to address problems such as declining work ethics, weak accountability, and the erosion of integrity in various social and institutional contexts. Within Islamic intellectual tradition, the Qur’an offers a comprehensive moral framework that emphasizes ethical responsibility in human conduct. However, previous studies often examine the values of work ethic, amanah (trustworthiness), and integrity separately, resulting in a fragmented understanding of their interrelated ethical structure. This study aims to analyze the Qur’anic construction of work ethic, amanah, and integrity as an integrated ethical framework and to explore their relevance for strengthening moral character and professional culture in contemporary society. This research employs qualitative library research using thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses supported by classical and contemporary exegetical literature. The findings demonstrate that the Qur’an conceptualizes work ethic as diligence and responsibility in fulfilling human duties, amanah as moral accountability in carrying entrusted responsibilities, and integrity as consistency between faith, speech, and action. These values are not independent but form an interconnected ethical system that guides individuals toward responsible and ethical conduct. The study concludes that the Qur’anic framework of work ethic, amanah, and integrity provides a significant moral foundation for reinforcing professionalism, accountability, and ethical work culture in the modern era.

Abstract

The normalization of toxic language on digital platforms has triggered serious moral degradation in children, demanding a pedagogical response that goes beyond secular approaches. This research aims to reconstruct the concept of language ethics in the Qur’an and Hadith as a fundamental basis for the formation of children’s character. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research design. The main data sources include the terminology of qawl in the Mushaf of the Qur’an and the authoritative books of Hadith (Kutub al-Sittah), supported by reputable journal literature as secondary data. Data analysis is carried out through theological interpretation and pedagogical synthesis to bridge normative texts with contemporary phenomena. The results of the study show three crucial findings: (1) The concepts of qawl sadīd, karīm, and layyin are not just norms of decency, but psychospiritual foundations that determine the integrity of character and validity of faith; (2) Exposure to toxic language is positively correlated with empathy deficits and increased emotional impulsivity in children based on findings from previous empirical studies; and (3) The internalization of prophetic language values through example (uswah) as documented in the analyzed literature and observed in educational best practices indicates a promising preventive-curative approach that appears more sustainable than regulatory measures alone in mitigating verbal aggression. Further experimental research is recommended to empirically measure the comparative effectiveness of these approaches.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the integrative strategies of the values of the Qur’an and Hadith in the development of the Islamic education curriculum in the era of modern disruption. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with a library research method. Research data were obtained from the text of the Qur’an, the hadith of the Prophet, classical and contemporary tafsir books, Islamic Religious Education curriculum documents such as the 2013 Curriculum and the Independent Curriculum, as well as various relevant scientific literature. The analysis was carried out through a thematic approach to identify the educational values in the Qur’an and Hadith and examine their relevance to the development of the Islamic education curriculum in the digital era. The results of the study show that the integrative strategy in the development of the Islamic education curriculum includes three main dimensions, namely strengthening teachers’ digital literacy as a prerequisite for contextual learning, the application of the Living Qur’an approach that connects the text of revelation with the social reality of students, and the development of inclusive pedagogy that respects the diversity of student characteristics. In addition, the recontextualization of the Prophet’s educational methods such as exemplary (uswah hasanah), dialogue, and gradual learning (tadarruj) shows a strong relevance to the modern pedagogical paradigm centered on students. This study emphasizes that the transformation of the Islamic education curriculum will only be effective if the integration of Qur’anic and Prophetic values is carried out systematically in curriculum design, pedagogical strategies, and a sustainable educational ecosystem.

Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherlessness has increasingly attracted scholarly attention as a complex social issue affecting family structures across different cultural contexts, including Muslim societies. Rather than assuming a uniform impact, contemporary research highlights that the absence or weakening of paternal roles whether physical or relational interacts with broader social and ethical dynamics in shaping children’s development. This study examines the concept of paternal leadership and responsibility in the Qur’an through a thematic (mawdū’ī) exegetical approach, with particular focus on Rashid Rida’s Tafsir al-Manār. Using qualitative library research, the study analyzes key Qur’anic passages related to fatherhood, including Q. 4:34, Q. 2:233, and Q. 31:13-19. The findings indicate that the Qur’an conceptualizes fatherhood as a multidimensional form of responsibility encompassing financial provision, moral guidance, and spiritual education. Rida’s interpretation frames paternal leadership not merely as authority, but as an ethical and socially embedded responsibility shaped by his reformist perspective. However, the study also shows that the application of this framework to contemporary contexts requires critical consideration, particularly in light of diverse modern era family structures. This research contributes to the development of socially engaged Qur’anic exegesis by offering a more integrative understanding of Islamic fatherhood that bridges textual interpretation and contemporary social analysis. It also provides a conceptual framework for re-evaluating paternal roles in Muslim families without reducing the issue of fatherlessness to a single causal explanation.

Abstract

This article attempts to explore the concept of virginity in Buya Hamka’s Tafsir Al-Azhar through a Qur’anic ethical approach oriented towards the values of purity (thaharah) and self-control (iffah). This study is motivated by the complexity of the issue of virginity in contemporary Islamic ethical discourse, which is not only biological in nature, but also theological, moral, and social. This study aims to reveal how Hamka interprets the term abkār in QS. Al-Waqi’ah verse 36 as a spiritual symbol of purity of the soul, not merely physical pleasure. Using a qualitative research method based on library research and a thematic interpretation approach (tafsīr mauḍū’ī), this study explores religious texts and supporting literature through linguistic, theological, and contextual ethical analysis. The analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically with triangulation of sources to maintain data validity. The results of the study show that Hamka shifts the meaning of virginity from the biological realm to the universal spiritual and moral realm, so that purity is understood as an ethical process that demands equal moral responsibility for men and women. This concept makes an important contribution to the renewal of Islamic ethics that is gender-equitable and relevant to the moral dynamics of modern society. The results of the study show that virginity in Hamka’s perspective is a symbol of spiritual purity that represents the perfection of faith and moral integrity of believers.

Abstract

The rising prevalence of depression in modern society is not only driven by biological, psychological, and social factors, but also by a growing crisis of meaning shaped by secular culture and materialistic life orientations. This loss of existential purpose intensifies psychological vulnerability and contributes to anxiety and depressive conditions. From an Islamic perspective, tawhid offers a transcendental, stable, and comprehensive foundation of meaning for human existence. This study aims to reconstruct tawhid as a meaning-based framework for psychological resilience through Fazlur Rahman’s Double Movement hermeneutic analysis of Qur’an 2:38 and 2:286, integrated with contemporary theories of meaning psychology. The findings demonstrate that tawhid functions as a meaning-making system that shapes life orientation, fosters hope, reduces existential anxiety, and promotes acceptance of human limitations. The principle of divine guidance in Qur’an 2:38 and the concept of proportional divine justice in Qur’an 2:286 form a structure of psychological resilience capable of addressing the modern crisis of meaning. This study argues that tawhid should be understood not merely as a theological doctrine, but as a meaning-based psychological resilience framework. However, this research remains limited to a conceptual and literature-based approach focusing on two Qur’anic verses, thus requiring further empirical validation in future studies.

Abstract

The decline of filial ethics in contemporary society indicates the weakening of value-based parenting within the family. Although Surah Yusuf presents an exemplary model of parent-child relationships, previous studies have not specifically examined the relationship between parenting patterns and the formation of filial piety (birrun wālidain) within the perspective of Tafsīr Asy-Sya‘rāwī. This study examines the parenting concept of Prophet Ya‘qub (a.s.) and its relevance to the formation of birrun wālidain in Prophet Yusuf (a.s.). It employs a qualitative library approach using the thematic (maudhu‘i) method by analyzing selected verses of Surah Yusuf. The primary source is Tafsīr Asy-Sya‘rāwī, supported by relevant scholarly literature. The findings reveal two integrated parenting patterns: (1) affectionate communication combined with preventive protection, and (2) strategic guidance accompanied by the cultivation of tawakkul. These patterns function as a continuous process of value internalization that shapes filial piety as an internalized character rather than a spontaneous attitude. This study concludes that Qur’anic parenting in Surah Yusuf offers an integrative model of family education that connects emotional, moral, and spiritual dimensions, and is relevant for addressing the contemporary decline of filial ethics.

Abstract

In the contemporary era, human life is increasingly marked by anxiety and psychological unrest arising from various personal and social problems. These conditions often disturb inner peace and weaken faith. To maintain spiritual stability, Islam offers dhikrullah as a medium for continuously remembering Allah, which functions as a means of strengthening and stabilizing faith. The Qur’an emphasizes that Allah bestows divine light upon those who engage in remembrance, causing their hearts to tremble in reverence. This study aims to examine Ibnu Ajibah’s interpretation of dhikr in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 152 and to analyze its relevance in contemporary life. This research employs a descriptive-analytical method with a qualitative approach, utilizing documentation techniques by examining primary sources particularly Tafsir al-Baḥr al-Madīd as well as relevant secondary literature such as books, journals, and scholarly articles. The findings reveal that according to Ibnu Ajibah, the command to remember Allah entails remembrance performed with a pure heart, a cleansed soul, firm monotheism, and strong faith. In return, Allah remembers His servants by unveiling the heart, removing spiritual veils, elevating their spiritual rank, and granting divine assistance. Gratitude (shukr) through remembrance is emphasized as a safeguard against spiritual negligence and shirk. The relevance of this interpretation in daily life is evident in its profound impact on both psychological and spiritual well-being, manifesting as inner peace, mental stability, and authentic happiness.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the theological and sociological tensions in contemporary hijab phenomena, where symbols of piety are often reduced by the commodification of the fashion industry. This study aims to deconstruct the static understanding of hijab and reformulate the concept of decency amidst the currents of lifestyle trends. Employing a qualitative library research method with a comparative approach, this research synthesizes the critical thought of Fatima Mernissi (historical deconstruction) and the tawhidic hermeneutics of Amina Wadud (substance reconstruction). The results indicate that the hijab is not an ahistorical dogma, but a dynamic cultural medium. The main finding of this study is the concept of “contextual ethics of decency” as a middle path; a synthesis positing that clothing forms may change according to the context of the times (per Mernissi’s historical critique), provided that the principles of moral integrity and piety remain its core essence (per Wadud’s interpretation). This study concludes that the desacralization of hijab by the market need not be responded to with anti-modernity rejection, but rather with the strengthening of women’s moral agency. Consequently, the parameters of piety shift from visual formalism to dignified public ethics, providing theoretical legitimacy for modest fashion as a valid yet spiritual expression of identity.

Abstract

This article examines the historical transmission networks of qirāʾāt (Quranic recitation variants) from Arab centers to contemporary Indonesia through a socio-historical and network analysis framework. Utilizing Azyumardi Azra’s ulama network theory and Harald Motzki’s common link methodology, this study investigates why Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim became nationally standardized while other readings persist in specialized communities. Through library research on classical manuals (al-Shāṭibiyyah, al-Ṭayyibah), prosopographical analysis of Indonesian qurrāʾ (Aceh, Banten, Java), and document examination of curricula, mushaf standardization, and digital pedagogy, data are analyzed descriptively, critically, and comparatively to map transmission phases, nodes, and flows. Findings reveal that transmission operates through multi-layered mechanisms: face-to-face (talaqqī–musyāfahah), institutional ecosystems (pesantren, LPTQ/JQH), and material regimes (printing, competitions, curricula). Ḥafṣ dominance emerges from the convergence of dense personal isnād chains, twentieth-century print standardization, and curricular alignment, while Warsh and Qālūn persist as advanced specializations. This study introduces “institutional isnād” as a concept linking personal chains with policy and publishing systems, and proposes an evolutionary timeline from early codification to digital re-globalization, offering implications for multi-qirāʾāt curriculum design and teacher certification frameworks.
