Abstract

This study aims to explore the emotional experiences of undergraduate students in online learning, focusing on academic anxiety and the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) phenomenon. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this study involved nine students from various universities in Indonesia who had different experiences of online learning. In-depth interviews revealed key challenges such as decreased motivation, lack of interaction, and psychological pressure due to academic demands and social comparison on digital platforms. The findings show that students not only face academic burdens, but also internalized pressures related to digital presence and peer comparison achievements. Despite this, most informants demonstrated emotional resilience through adaptive strategies such as time management, self-reflection, and emotion regulation. The novelty in this study lies in its holistic perspective, which combines academic, emotional and social aspects to understand students' experiences during digital learning. Unlike previous research that tends to separate these factors, this study highlights the interconnectedness of these elements and encourages educational institutions to consider emotional sustainability as an important component in designing online learning systems.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of crop failure on education financing management at SMK Diponegoro 2 Rawalo, where students’ families rely heavily on agriculture. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through interviews with school stakeholders and direct observation. Results show that crop failure reduces families’ ability to pay tuition, increases requests for financial aid, and forces schools to implement strategies such as fee waivers, payment rescheduling, and cross-subsidies. These conditions necessitate stronger internal financial management and enhanced communication with parents. The findings highlight the need for adaptive education financing policies in agriculturally dependent regions. Such policies are essential to maintaining education continuity amid economic instability caused by environmental factors.

Abstract

This article analyzes risk mitigation in the implementation of the Free Nutritious Food Program (MBG) in Indonesia, focusing on its impact on food security and national defense, particularly from a non-military defense perspective. The program aims to improve the nutritional quality of the community through guaranteed distribution of nutritious food, but faces challenges related to operational, financial, governance and oversight risks. A desk-based exploratory qualitative approach was used to explore the ISO 31000:2018 risk management framework, and assess and manage these risks in the context of the MBG. The findings show that the success of the MBG is highly dependent on strengthening distribution infrastructure, transparency in budget management and inter-agency coordination. Dependence on food imports threatens domestic food security and social stability, making it an integral part of national defense. Source triangulation and thematic analysis were used to ensure the validity and credibility of the findings. The research suggests integrated mitigation measures, including surveillance technology and strengthening domestic food security, as key to program sustainability and state stability.

Abstract

Developing reflective competence in pre-service teachers is essential for fostering critical and adaptive thinking, yet conventional methods often fall short in promoting deep metacognitive awareness. This quantitative study employed a quasi-experimental design involving 120 education students from two Indonesian universities, divided into experimental and control groups. Data were gathered through pre- and post-tests, observations, and perception questionnaires, and analyzed using ANCOVA. Findings revealed that integrating metacognitive elements into adaptive gamification significantly enhanced students' reflective competence compared to traditional methods. The results suggest that gamification tailored to metacognitive levels can effectively stimulate meaningful reflection. This study contributes to the theory of adaptive, technology-based learning models and offers practical insights for improving reflection-focused teacher education curricula.

Abstract

Reading comprehension plays a vital role in a child’s cognitive growth, helping them gain knowledge and build mental skills. This study explored how using story maps could improve the reading comprehension of Grade III learners in an online class setting. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used to measure changes before and after the intervention. The study involved quantitative data collection, analyzed using the Paired Sample T-test through SPSS software. Results showed a significant improvement in learners’ reading comprehension after using story maps. These findings suggest that story mapping is an effective tool for enhancing comprehension skills, and it may be a valuable strategy for teachers conducting online classes with young learners.

Abstract

Mental health problems, like depression, are now seen as major issues for football players because of the mental stress and physical challenges of the sport. This study will use bibliometric methods to map out and study worldwide research trends on mental health and depression in football players from 2015 to 2025. A bibliometric analysis was done using the Scopus database. The data was analyzed with VOSviewer and R-studio software to study performance and map out the science, including looking at who wrote together, how often keywords appeared together, and how often articles were cited. This bibliometric study gives a full picture of research activity on mental health and depression in football players.

Abstract

Digital Storytelling (DSt) has increasingly been recognized as an effective pedagogical tool in 21st-century education, leveraging multimedia elements to create engaging narratives that foster deeper learning and critical thinking. This study employed a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines, analyzing 50 peer-reviewed publications published between 2008 and 2024 that focused on the use of digital storytelling in language education. The results show that digital storytelling is highly effective in promoting lifelong learning, developing essential 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, digital literacy, and communication, and enhancing pedagogy by connecting language learning to real-world contexts. Furthermore, DSt enables students to learn at their own pace while empowering educators to inspire improved language acquisition. The study recommends that educational institutions conduct workshops and training to equip teachers with the technical and instructional skills needed to integrate digital storytelling, and that curriculum designers embed DSt projects into language education curricula to align with educational standards and learning objectives.

Abstract

This study explores the formation of critical awareness among high school students from marginalized backgrounds in the context of sociology learning. Motivated by the socioeconomic limitations that often hinder reflective thinking and understanding of social injustice, the research employs a qualitative exploratory descriptive approach. Data were collected through open-ended online questionnaires completed by 85 students from low-income families in Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi. Thematic analysis reveals three stages of critical awareness development: (1) initial awareness, recognizing social injustice; (2) critical analysis, fostered through real-life case learning; and (3) orientation to action, though still limited to activities like information sharing or peer discussions. Key supporting factors include teachers’ reflective questioning, relevance of learning materials, and peer solidarity, while main barriers involve limited access to literature and low reading habits. The study concludes that sociology learning can effectively foster critical awareness among marginalized students, with outcomes shaped by instructional strategies and access to knowledge. It highlights the importance of contextual, participatory learning designs and calls for further mixed-methods research to deepen insights into the dynamics of critical awareness formation.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of integrating real-time learning analytics and pedagogical chatbots on enhancing digital literacy and self-regulated learning among Madrasah Aliyah students. Using a mixed-methods approach with a pre-test–post-test quasi-experimental design involving 120 students, quantitative data were collected through digital literacy tests, self-regulated learning scales, and activity logs, while qualitative data came from semi-structured interviews. Results showed a significant improvement in both digital literacy and self-regulated learning in the experimental group compared to the control group, with a positive correlation between chatbot interaction intensity and learning outcomes. Qualitative findings revealed that real-time feedback and adaptive chatbot guidance enhanced students’ intrinsic motivation and learning management skills. Overall, the integration of these technologies effectively strengthens 21st-century competencies and offers strategic implications for technology-based learning design in Islamic senior high schools.
