Abstract

The development of digital media has increased the demand for engaging, communicative, and high-quality visual content as a means of conveying information, promoting products or services, and building personal brands. However, preliminary observations indicate that students and digital content creators still face various challenges in producing effective visual content, particularly regarding lighting techniques, visual composition, storytelling, and content editing. This community service initiative aims to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in producing visual content that is more creative, aesthetically pleasing, and aligned with the needs of digital media through photography and videography workshops. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), which actively involved participants in the process of problem identification, action planning, activity implementation, hands-on practice, observation, and reflection. The activities were conducted through presentations, participatory discussions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and guidance on creating visual content using smartphones. The materials covered included visual branding, visual branding techniques, lighting, composition, shooting angles, storytelling, and content editing. The results of the activities showed an increase in participants’ understanding of the principles of photography and videography, improved skills in producing higher-quality photos and videos, and increased confidence in producing digital content. Additionally, participants were able to apply the visual techniques they learned to create content that is more engaging, communicative, and aligned with the characteristics of social media audiences. Thus, the PAR-based photography and videography workshop has proven effective as an empowerment strategy for improving the quality of visual content and digital literacy among students and digital content creators.

Abstract

This community service research aims to develop an animated video learning media based on Instagram Reels on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) material for grade X students of MAN Manggarai Barat Labuan Bajo and to determine the level of media feasibility based on expert validation and student responses. This community service research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research instruments are in the form of a material expert validation questionnaire, a media expert validation questionnaire, and a student response questionnaire using a Likert scale. The data analysis technique is carried out descriptively quantitatively by calculating the percentage of media feasibility. The results show that the animated video media based on Instagram Reels obtained a very feasible category based on material expert validation with a percentage of 89% and media expert validation with a percentage of 91%. In addition, student responses obtained a percentage of 88% with a very good category. The developed media is considered interesting, easy to understand, interactive, and able to increase student learning motivation on HIV material. The use of Instagram Reels as a learning medium also provides a flexible learning experience and is in accordance with the characteristics of the digital generation. Thus, Instagram Reels-based animated video media is suitable for use as an alternative digital based biology learning media for abstract material.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is an important aspect in creating a safe and healthy work environment, especially in vocational education which involves many practical activities. One of the efforts in implementing OSH is the proper and disciplined use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). However, students' awareness regarding PPE usage is still relatively low. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding of the importance of PPE usage in the implementation of OSH at SMK Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung. The implementation methods included pre-test, material presentation, PPE usage demonstration, PPE practice session, discussion and question-answer session, and post-test. Participants consisted of eleventh-grade students from DPIB and Geomatics classes. The results showed an increase in participants’ understanding, indicated by the improvement in the average pre-test score from 88.78 to 97.11 in the post-test. In addition, participants showed high enthusiasm during the activity. This activity successfully improved students’ understanding and awareness regarding the importance of PPE usage to support occupational safety both in school and future workplaces.

Abstract

Parental guidance plays a crucial role in helping students understand the material presented at school and in completing their assignments. However, parents often fail to understand their child's preferred learning style. They may even be unaware of whether their child is an auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learner. Consequently, the guidance provided to children is suboptimal, impacting student learning outcomes. Current learning styles, which increasingly facilitate students' learning styles in schools, have not been matched by parental guidance that aligns with their child's learning style. Based on this background, the purpose of this community service activity is to educate parents about learning style strategies, identify their child's preferred learning style, and improve student learning outcomes after receiving parental guidance through the Learning Style Strategy. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase parents' understanding of learning styles and to improve students' learning outcomes using the Learning Style Strategy. The community service method used is Participatory Action Research, which consists of five stages: initial socialization, social mapping, participatory planning, action implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The results of the community service activities obtained the results of mapping student learning styles at kinesthetic by 23%, audio 37% and visual 40%. In addition, there was an increase in parental competence measured from before and after the community service activities by 84%, including in the high category. Increased parental competence affects learning assistance to their children and influences student learning outcomes.
