Abstract

Abstract. In the 21st century, life has changed a lot, both in society and in the world of education. The 21st century is also known as the knowledge age. In that era, almost all efforts to fulfill the necessities of life in various aspects were based on knowledge and technology. Referring to the P21 Framework (Partnership for 21st century) it is explained that there are skills, knowledge and expertise that must be mastered so that students can be successful in their work career life. Many careers are still underestimated and may not yet exist and be introduced in the curriculum. With the development of technology, many new careers and professions have sprung up, such as content creator, video editor, cinematographer, videographer, illustrator and other new professions that are urgently needed. In the context of art learning, visual culture may play an important role in raising this awareness. In the art education paradigm, it does not emphasize that all students will be proficient at drawing or like to paint, but through art education, especially with a visual culture approach, it gives an idea to students that there are many alternative ideas and new opportunities that are closer to their daily lives for example in terms of branding, design, advertising, video games, fashion, logo and design. Adding visual culture to the curriculum, is a concept that is inevitable that not only makes students more motivated in learning but also allows students to see other career paths that they might choose in life.

Abstract

Abstrak. Multimodal paralanguage is related to multi resources of nonphonemic properties in communication activities. As part of the non-verbal aspect, paralanguage is considered a crucial technique for the success of the presentational activity. In this case, a group of ELT students at a certain university had concerns about transferring information that caused their presentation performance. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the implementation of paralanguage components by entailing multimodal features in conveying effective meaning. The subject of this study is a representative group of ELT students at a certain university. Qualitative research is used with observation and recording as the data collection method. The steps in analyzing the data are adopted from Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014), including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion (drawing or verifying). The findings revealed distinctive components of paralanguage used by the students during the presentation. The implemented components include voice qualities, vocal characteristics, and vocal segregation. Multimodal features are implemented as a strategy for improvisation in communication. Furthermore, this study can be advantageous as a reference for each person who will act as a presenter or speaker to enhance their presentational skill.

Abstract

Abstrak. This research aimed to see the Bia Music Phenomenon in Batu Village, North Minahasa Regency in an effort to pass on traditional music in the context of art education. Inheriting traditional music is a cultural problem in the dynamics of human life. The process of inheritance is seen as one of the activities of transfer, transmission, ownership between generations in order to maintain tradition in a family tree that moves continuously and simultaneously. The method in this paper uses a qualitative descriptive method, descriptive method is a method in finding facts about the status of a human group, an object, a condition, a system of thought or an event in the present with the right interpretation (Sedarmayanti., Hidayat, 2002). Qualitative research does not merely describe, but more importantly, finds the meaning contained behind it, as a hidden meaning or intentionally hidden (Ratna, 2010). The purpose of inheritance is generally to maintain cultural values from the past, as well as efforts to maintain the arts. This paper aims to discuss the inheritance system in Bia Music as an effort to preserve the existence of the art. By using the inheritance system theory, this paper examines the types of inheritance in the context of art education and the efforts made in the inheritance process in order to maintain the preservation of the existence of traditional arts.

Abstract

Abstrak. Preservice mathematics teachers need to develop their competence, especially professional competence. Professional competence is related to the ability of preservice teachers to use mathematical manipulatives. Mathematics manipulatives can show real mathematical objects so that mathematics learning becomes meaningful. Preservice mathematics teachers can also design and create manipulatives as needed. This research is qualitative descriptive research. This study describes the types and uses of mathematical manipulatives made by preservice mathematics teachers in the Pekalongan University Mathematics Education Study Program. The results showed that there were 10 mathematical manipulatives with various uses, including understanding mathematical concepts, solving math problems, and playing math games. This mathematical manipulative can be used for learning mathematics, so it is necessary to test the effectiveness of the mathematical manipulative. These trials could involve schools and mathematics teachers. Lecturers should also analyze the difficulties of preservice mathematics teachers when making mathematical manipulatives so that appropriate assistance can be given according to the type of difficulty. Teachers also need to design learning in mathematics learning media courses that are more interesting so that mathematical manipulative products can be utilized by mathematics teachers and students gain in-depth knowledge of mathematical concepts.
