Abstract

This study aims to identify learning obstacles, design didactic methods, implement didactic activities, and find changes after the retrospective stage. The method used is Didactical Design Research (DDR). The subjects of this study are second-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through observation during the learning process. The results showed that some students had difficulty understanding the concept of multiplication as repeated addition and demonstrated limitations in visualizing number patterns. To overcome these obstacles, concrete media in the form of multiplication boards and ice cream sticks were used. Ice cream sticks were used as manipulative tools to show groups of numbers, while multiplication boards helped students find multiplication patterns visually and structurally. The use of these two media made it easier for students to understand the basic concept of multiplication, especially for students with low numerical abilities. Significant changes occurred in concept exploration and number pattern comprehension activities. Students became more active and engaged in learning because the learning was concrete and contextual. These results indicate that the integration of multiplication boards and popsicle sticks in didactic design can improve the effectiveness of multiplication learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes the importance of literacy as a basic competency for the 21st century, in which students are not only required to be able to read texts, but also to be able to read social and cultural contexts. This study aims to describe the application of literacy strategies through the art of reading and understanding various types of reading materials in Integrated Social Studies (IPS) learning at Alfityah Islamic Elementary School. The background of this study is the low ability of students to understand IPS reading texts that are conceptual and contextual in nature. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with a field study approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the literacy strategies applied, such as active reading, layered reading, and reflective discussion, were able to improve students' understanding of social concepts, critical thinking skills, and interest in reading. Reading activities are not only directed at recognizing textual information, but also at understanding the social and moral meanings of the reading content. This study confirms that the art of reading in Integrated Social Studies is key to building critical literacy and social character in elementary school students.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has brought significant changes to the behavior, interaction patterns, and learning culture of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) students. This condition requires the strengthening of civic values to shape character based on morality, responsibility, and digital literacy. This study aims to describe the implementation of civic values in the character building process of MI students in Indragiri Hulu (INHU) Regency, Riau, with a focus on learning practices, madrasah culture, and the role of teachers and the digital environment. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of teachers, students, and madrasah principals. The results show that teachers apply civic values through the integration of civic education material, character building, role modeling, and the management of digital activities based on ethics and responsibility. Character building is also strengthened through digital literacy programs, supervision of gadget use, and social-based extracurricular activities. However, challenges arise in the form of low control over social media use at home and a lack of digital training for teachers. In conclusion, the implementation of civic values at MI INHU has been going well, although it still needs to be strengthened in terms of collaboration between schools and parents and improving teachers' digital competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a GeoGebra-based didactic design for simple spatial figures to overcome learning obstacles experienced by elementary school students. The method used is Didactical Design Research (DDR), which consists of three main stages: analysis of the didactic situation before learning, metapedagogical observation, and retrospective analysis of the suitability of the design with the learning process that occurs. Data were obtained through diagnostic tests of learning obstacles, observations, and interviews with teachers and fifth-grade students at SDN 007 Bonai Darussalam. The results showed that students experienced epistemological obstacles in understanding spatial figure networks, identifying spatial figure elements, and distinguishing the properties of blocks and cubes. Traditional learning that only uses static images makes it difficult for students to visualize three-dimensional shapes as a whole. The initial didactic design was then revised by integrating concrete, semi-concrete, and digital activities using GeoGebra. The implementation of the revised didactic design showed an increase in students' understanding in connecting 2D and 3D representations, recognizing spatial elements, and understanding the concept of similarity through interactive visual exploration. Overall, the GeoGebra-based didactic design proved effective as a learning innovation that strengthened students' understanding of geometry and improved the quality of the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study examines the Islamic educational thought of Burhanuddin Az-Zarnuji and its relevance to modern education systems. Az-Zarnuji was a 12th-century scholar who produced the monumental work Ta'lim al-Muta'allim Tariq at-Ta'allum, which remains a primary reference in Islamic education today. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing primary and secondary sources related to Az-Zarnuji's thought. The findings indicate that Az-Zarnuji's educational philosophy encompasses fundamental concepts including the essence and virtue of knowledge, the importance of proper intention in learning, teacher-student relationships, gradual learning methodology (tadarruj), and character formation. His learning methods include selecting teachers and study partners, time management, memory reinforcement, and collaborative learning. Az-Zarnuji's thought demonstrates high relevance to modern education, particularly in character education, constructivism learning, learning management, lifelong learning, and holistic education. This study concludes that integrating Az-Zarnuji's thought into contemporary Islamic education systems can provide solutions for producing Muslim generations who excel academically while maintaining noble character.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze an integrated reading strategy based on constructivist theory to improve reading literacy among elementary school students at SD Borneo Indah Marjaya. The background of this research is based on the still low reading literacy skills of elementary school students, as shown by national and local data. The method used is a literature review of 10 recent scientific sources (5 journals and 5 books) that discuss reading strategies and constructivist learning theory. The study results show that an integrated reading strategy involving reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills can enhance students' reading comprehension. This strategy is also in line with constructivist theory, where learning occurs actively thru direct experiences and social interactions. The implementation of this strategy at SD Borneo Indah Marjaya is considered relevant and potentially capable of strengthening students' literacy skills if supported by teacher training, the availability of contextual reading materials, and support from the school and family environment. Thus, the integrated reading strategy based on constructivism can be an innovative solution in literacy education at the elementary school level.
