Abstract

This study aims to analyze Harun Nasution's thoughts on Islamic education reform in Indonesia, examine the Islamic education reform concept proposed by Nurcholish Madjid, and compare the relevance and contributions of both thinkers to Islamic education in the modern era. This research is a literature study (library research) with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected through literature reviews including books, articles, scientific journals, and other sources relevant to the ideas of Harun Nasution and Nurcholish Madjid. A comparative approach was used to analyze the similarities and differences between the thoughts of the two figures. Data analysis was conducted thematically to identify the main concepts and their implications for Islamic education in Indonesia. The results of this study show that Harun emphasized rationality in Islamic education by integrating religious and general knowledge, eliminating the dichotomy in education, and encouraging a more contextual theological reform. He believed that Islamic education should be responsive to the development of modern science. Nurcholish emphasized the importance of pluralism, modernization, and openness in Islamic education. He advocated for education that not only builds religious knowledge but also shapes moral character, tolerance, and openness to modern science. The conclusion of this research is that the ideas of both thinkers complement each other and are relevant for building an adaptive Islamic education system in response to changing times. Harun's focus is more on theological aspects and rationality, while Nurcholish focuses on pluralism and modernity. Both offer strategic solutions to integrate Islamic values with the demands of globalization.

Abstract

This study discusses the representation of sexism in Eka Kurniawan's novel Cantik Itu Luka and its English translation, focusing on gender issues, appraisal analysis, and translation techniques. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research analyzes sexist utterances categorized according to Mansour Fakih’s theory of gender injustice, and examines the translation techniques based on Molina and Albir’s theory. The results show that sexism in the novel appears in various forms, such as stereotypes, marginalization, and subordination, represented through the characters' utterances and the author's narrative. The translation analysis reveals shifts in meaning influenced by the translator’s choices in adjusting evaluative lexis in the target language to achieve acceptability, while still maintaining fidelity to the source text. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating appraisal theory into translation practice to ensure contextual equivalence and sensitivity to gender issues.

Technological developments have brought significant transformation in the world of education, including the role of teachers in the learning process. This research aims to explore changes in the role of teachers from mere facilitators to innovators in technology-based learning models. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis on 10 teachers from various levels of education in the research area. The research results show that teachers who adopt technology-based learning are able to create an interactive and personalized learning atmosphere. As facilitators, teachers utilize technology to support information access and increase student involvement in learning. Meanwhile, in their role as innovators, teachers develop digital learning media, utilize online platforms, and design learning strategies that suit students' needs in the digital era. However, the challenges faced include limited infrastructure, lack of technology training, and resistance to change. This research recommends increasing support from educational institutions in providing technological facilities and ongoing training for teachers. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a crucial role in shaping the moral character of students, especially in the era of globalization, which is filled with social and moral challenges. PAI not only serves as a means of transferring religious knowledge but also as a medium for internalizing fundamental moral values such as honesty, responsibility, and empathy. This research identifies various challenges faced in the implementation of moral education, including the negative influence of social media and the lack of parental involvement. Using the library research method, this study analyzes relevant literature to evaluate the effectiveness of PAI in building character. The results show the need for curriculum reform that is more relevant and teaching approaches that are more applicable. The synergy between schools, families, and communities is essential to ensure that moral values are internalized in students' daily lives. With teachers as role models, it is hoped that PAI can produce a generation that is not only academically intelligent but also of noble character and ethics.

Abstract

Multicultural education in Indonesia has become an essential need amidst the diversity of ethnicity, culture, and religion. Madrasahs, as Islamic educational institutions, play a strategic role in integrating multicultural values to shape students' moderate attitudes. This study aims to explore the implementation of multicultural education values at Madrasah Imbos in Pringsewu and identify its impact on developing students' moderate attitudes. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation to gain comprehensive insights into the educational process. The results of the study show that the integration of multicultural values into the curriculum, dialogue-based teaching methods, and student participation in extracurricular activities focused on diversity have successfully enhanced students' understanding of cultural differences. Approximately 80% of students demonstrated an improved moderate attitude after participating in the multicultural program, indicating the program's effectiveness. However, challenges in implementation include resistance from some students who struggle to accept these values and limited teaching resources that may hinder the program's sustainability. This study highlights the importance of continuous teacher training and competency development to address these challenges and ensure the successful implementation of multicultural education. By illustrating effective strategies in fostering moderate attitudes through multicultural practices, this research makes a significant contribution and can serve as a reference for other madrasahs in developing inclusive education policies. The findings are expected to strengthen educational efforts in nurturing harmony, understanding, and tolerance within a diverse society, thus promoting peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
