Abstract

Low learning outcomes in IPAS at the elementary school level remain a major problem, particularly due to the dominance of teacher-centered learning models that limit students’ active participation. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on IPAS learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 20 Sintuk and SDN 15 Ampalu, Pariaman Utara District. This research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental method with a Static Group Comparison Design. The population consisted of all fifth-grade students from both schools, and the samples were selected using a saturated sampling technique. SDN 20 Sintuk was assigned as the experimental class taught using the Problem Based Learning model, while SDN 15 Ampalu served as the control class taught using conventional learning. Data were collected through IPAS learning outcome tests and analyzed using a t-test. The results showed that the average post-test score of the experimental class was 79, while the control class obtained an average score of 63. Hypothesis testing indicated that the calculated t-value (2.64) was greater than the t-table value (1.68) at a significance level of 0.05. These findings indicate that the Problem Based Learning model has a significant effect on improving IPAS learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students. Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of school principal leadership management in improving teacher performance through the BERKARISMA strategy (Quality-Oriented, Creative, Religious, Innovative, Courteous, Independent, and Trustworthy) at Sukorejo IV Public Elementary School, a small school with 76 students and 7 teachers. A qualitative approach with a case study design was used to describe the planning process, supporting and inhibiting factors, and the impact of the strategy. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with triangulation to ensure validity. The results show that the BERKARISMA strategy effectively addressed the limitations of the small school, improved teacher motivation and competencies, and reduced performance gaps (e.g., lesson planning improved from 68% to a more optimal level). Supporting factors included the principal’s role as a role model and team collaboration, while inhibiting factors involved limited resources. The impact was an improvement in the school climate and the quality of learning. This research contributes to the development of leadership models in small schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze learning difficulties that lead to low levels of student participation in classroom learning and to identify the factors influencing this condition. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subject was a junior high school student who exhibited passive learning behavior and limited participation in classroom activities. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with the student, subject teachers, the homeroom teacher, and the guidance and counseling teacher, as well as supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that low student learning participation is influenced by internal factors, such as lack of concentration and self-confidence, as well as external factors, including the learning environment and teaching methods. Continuous guidance and counseling services, supported by collaboration among subject teachers and the homeroom teacher, play a crucial role in facilitating positive changes in students’ learning behavior. This study is expected to provide practical contributions to the development of school guidance and counseling services in addressing students’ learning difficulties in a comprehensive manner.

Abstract

The performance of elementary school teachers is a key factor in determining the quality of learning. However, the practice of academic supervision in schools is still largely administrative and has not fully functioned as reflective professional development. This study aims to analyze the implementation of clinical supervision with a lesson study approach to improve the performance of elementary school teachers and to understand the meaning of teachers’ reflective experiences during the supervision process. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research subjects include the principal and elementary school teachers directly involved in clinical supervision based on lesson study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document studies, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation to maintain data validity. The results of the study show that clinical supervision with lesson study was carried out collaboratively through the stages of planning, implementation, and joint reflection. The reflection process encouraged teachers to critically recognize the strengths and weaknesses of their teaching practices. Changes in teacher performance were not only demonstrated by improvements in lesson planning and teaching strategies but also by the development of reflective awareness and professional commitment. This study concludes that the integration of clinical supervision and lesson study is an effective strategy for sustainable professional development of teachers. The novelty of this study lies in revealing the meaning of teacher reflection as the core of performance change in clinical supervision based on lesson study.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the strategic role of school counselors (BK) in guiding students to face peer pressure at SMA Negeri 4 Kupang. Peer pressure is a significant social challenge in adolescent development, especially in a school environment that is socially and culturally heterogeneous. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, allowing for an in-depth exploration of the experiences and strategies of school counselors in the social context of the school. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, with participants consisting of three school counselors, five students, and two class teachers, selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The findings reveal three main themes: (1) school counselors as facilitators in strengthening students' social character, (2) school counselors as mediators in peer conflicts, and (3) school counselors as reflective companions in students' moral decision-making. These three roles highlight the contribution of school counselors not only in preventing negative behaviors but also in fostering social awareness, empathy, and critical thinking skills in students in response to social pressures in their environment. Theoretically, this research reinforces the concept of a humanistic approach in guidance and counseling, while practically offering implications for improving the competence of school counselors in managing students' social dynamics. The findings also encourage educational policies to strengthen the role of counseling services in building an inclusive and supportive school culture. Future research is recommended to explore the influence of cultural factors and the school’s social structure on the effectiveness of the school counselor's role in various local contexts in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the coping strategies of Generation X and Millennial school principals in work stress management within the context of elementary school leadership. The research uses a qualitative approach with a multi-site study design conducted at SDN Ngembe 1 and SDN Baujeng 1 in Beji District. The subjects of the study are school principals representing Generation X and Millennial, selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed thematically through stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, including cross-site analysis. The results show that both generations face relatively similar sources of work stress, particularly stemming from leadership role complexities, administrative demands, and stakeholder expectations. However, there are differences in how stress is perceived and managed. Generation X principals tend to use problem-solving and self-resilience-oriented coping strategies supported by work experience, while Millennial principals are more flexible, combining problem-solving, emotional management, technology utilization, and social support strategies. These findings emphasize that generational backgrounds influence the coping strategy dynamics of school principals in work stress management, which should be considered in the development of policies and programs to strengthen elementary school leadership.
