Abstract

According to WHO, UNICEF, and the World Bank in 2021, stunting is the most common type of malnutrition among toddlers, namely 144 million stunted toddlers in the world and 53% are in Asia. 2018 Basic Health Research Report, West Java, the reason for not weighing children aged 0 – 59 months in the last 12 months was because parents were busy (26.2%) and forgot and/or didn't know their schedule (18.3%). Referring to this phenomenon, it is important to carry out height and weight checks at school. The community service activities carried out by Universitas Padjadjaran Midwifery Program and The Garuda Community Health Center aim to assess nutritional status and enhance toddlers' knowledge of proper hand-washing techniques at The Imanda Bandung Preschool Play Group. A total of ninety-nine toddlers had their height and weight measured at Imanda Bandung Preschool Play Group. The data obtained was analyzed using the WHO recommended z-scoore chart based on age and gender. Of the ninety-nine toddlers aged under five years 28.28% and aged over five years 71.72%. Ages under five years old have a normal nutritional status of 82.15%. Ages over five years have normal nutrition 67.60%, malnutrition 5.63%, and obesity 5.63%. Children with poor nutritional status and obesity are referred. Hand washing health education was followed by toddlers enthusiastically. Monitoring children's growth and development tends to decrease with age, leading to a lack of early detection of nutritional problems. Routine height and weight checks, including at school, are very important to determine a child's nutritional status.

Abstract

Currently, midwifery services are strengthened by the use of various technologies, so midwives are required to be able to use smartphone-based applications (mobile Health) in recording and reporting Maternal and Child Health (MCH) data and improving lifelong competency based on applications (mobile Learning). This community service activity aims to strengthen midwives' abilities in digital literacy based on the midwife's iPosyandu application to improve MCH services. The method of implementing the activity is in the form of training in the use of the iPosyandu Bidan application. The results of the evaluation of this activity were that most midwives were able to use the midwife's iPosyandu application by quickly learning to input data (mean>5.57) and search for midwifery information (mean>5.65) to improve competence (mean>5.68), and provide health services (mean>5.52). Midwives have good digital literacy when using the Bidan applications such as mHealth and mLearning. Recommendations for the next community service activity are that midwives can provide health services in the form of health education to patients based on the iPosyandu Bidan application.

Abstract

Breast milk is an essential substance that newborns need to fulfill their nutritional needs and develop their body systems. The breastfeeding rate in Indonesia only reaches 80%, which means it is still below the coverage target. Breast milk given exclusively can be a natural contraceptive, reduce the risk of breast cancer, and reduce postpartum bleeding. Therefore, lactation is necessary for smooth and increased breast milk production. Lactation management education for postpartum mothers is needed to provide understanding to mothers so that their motivation to provide exclusive breastfeeding increases, and they can perform lactation correctly. After lactation management education, the mother’s knowledge of lactation management increases, and the attachment between mother and baby also increases.

Abstract

This community service program aims to increase students' knowledge and awareness about handling acute sports injuries. The targets of this program are students of SMA N 13 Jambi City who are actively involved in physical activities and school sports. The scope of activities includes identifying the types of acute sports injuries that commonly occur, understanding the symptoms, and introducing fast and proper first aid techniques using the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) method. The methods applied in this program consist of educational seminars, interactive discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice sessions. The activities were conducted directly in schools and involved both theoretical and practical components to ensure better understanding and engagement. The results showed a significant increase in the students' knowledge level, as indicated by the comparison between the pre-test and post-test scores, the pre-test score was 36.02%, while the average post-test score increased significantly to 93.35%. The paired t-test analysis showed a t-value = -38.355 with a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05), meaning the difference was statistically significant. This proves that providing hands-on education through lectures, discussions, and simulations is effective in improving students' knowledge of acute-phase sports injury management. Participants demonstrated increased confidence and accuracy in identifying and responding to acute injury scenarios. In conclusion, this educational intervention successfully increased students' awareness and preparedness in managing acute sports injuries, highlighting the importance of early and appropriate treatment to prevent further complications. The program is expected to make a positive contribution to injury prevention and health promotion among secondary school students involved in sports.

Abstract

Stunting is a global health issue that affects physical growth, cognitive development, and future productivity. WHO (2022) reported that 22.3% of children under five years old experience stunting worldwide, with a prevalence of 26.4% in Southeast Asia. In Indonesia, the stunting prevalence is 21.7%, while in Bandung City, it reaches 16.3% (Kemenkes, 2023). One of the efforts to prevent stunting is educating community health cadres on Infant and IYCF as agents of change in society. This study employed a descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach involving 400 community health cadres in Bandung City. The training was conducted using a blended learning approach, combining online and offline sessions over four stages. Evaluation was performed through pretest and posttest assessments to measure knowledge improvement and attitude changes among cadres. The results showed an increase in cadre knowledge from 49.7% before the training to 67.8% after the training. However, negative attitudes toward IYCF increased from 46.2% to 56.4%, likely due to implementation challenges in the field. These findings highlight that while training effectively enhances cadre knowledge, practical application in communities still faces obstacles. Therefore, policy support, cross-sectoral involvement, and more effective communication strategies are needed to enable cadres to optimize their role in stunting prevention.

Abstract

Stroke patients generally need a long recovery because most individuals undergoing hospital treatment experience disabilities in several parts of the body. Therefore, survivors need the help of other people to live daily life; this role is taken on by caregivers. Caregivers play a crucial role for stroke survivors during the process of long-term rehabilitation and must assume many responsibilities. For this reason, knowledge and skills are needed in caring for post-stroke patients at home. One of the efforts that can be done is through education and training for caregivers and health cadres. This community service activity aimed to enhance cadres’ and caregivers’ knowledge and skill in providing care for families after a stroke. The target population comprised 16 caregivers and seven cadres who supported the families. The results of the community service activities demonstrated an increase in caregivers' knowledge by 32.8 points following the training activities, with a p-value of 0.001 (<α= 0.05), indicating that the difference between the pre- and post-values is statistically significant. The results of observations of cadre and caregiver skills regarding post-stroke care at home include Range of Motion (ROM) exercises, assistance with daily activities, and training in communication in the moderate category. Cadres are expected to continue supporting families as caregivers to be able to care for post-stroke patients at home.
