Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore the concept of religious tolerance in Buya Hamka's Tafsir Al-Azhar and compare it with the interpretations of other classical and contemporary mufasir such as Ibn Kathir, Al-Maraghi, Wahbah al-Zuhaili, and M. Quraish Shihab, to reaffirm the Qur'an's instructions on peaceful interreligious relations in a pluralistic society, especially in Indonesia. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework used involves a thematic and contextual interpretation approach to the Qur'an, paying attention to aspects of religious freedom, social coexistence, and multiculturalism values. Literature review: A literature review involves an analysis of classical and contemporary works of interpretation, as well as literature that discusses thematic interpretations and issues of religious diversity. Methods: The method applied in this study is a qualitative-descriptive method with a literature study approach and content analysis of six verses of the Qur'an related to religious tolerance (QS. Al-Baqarah: 256, Al-Kafirun: 1–6, Yunus: 40–41, Yunus: 99–100, Mumtahanah: 8–9, and Al-Maidah: 5). Results: The results of the study show that Hamka prioritizes a contextual and responsive interpretation approach to social reality, different from the more textual and theological interpretations of some other scholars. Hamka and Quraish Shihab's interpretations stand out for being inclusive and dialogical, demonstrating Islam's compatibility with the values of democracy and multiculturalism. Implications: Implications of these findings include the importance of a social interpretation approach in building inclusive education, developing tolerant policies, and encouraging interfaith dialogue. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its contribution to the development of thematic and contextual interpretive methods to respond to contemporary challenges, as well as in showing that socially oriented interpretive approaches can be the foundation for harmony in a pluralistic society.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the strategic role of youth in driving national economic growth through innovation and cross-sector collaboration, and to examine the relevance and effectiveness of legal policies that support this role in the context of achieving the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045. Theoretical framework: This study uses an interdisciplinary approach that combines the theories of youth empowerment, innovation-driven economy, and the legal framework of national development. This approach strengthens the understanding of how national regulations, such as Law No. 40 of 2009 concerning Youth and Presidential Regulation No. 18 of 2020 concerning RPJMN 2020–2024, support the role of youth in economic growth. Literature review: Youth Innovation in Economic Development, Cross-Sector Collaboration by Youth, Legal Basis for Youth Empowerment. Methods: This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, literature study, and policy analysis techniques. Data sources were obtained from national legal documents, academic journals, BAPPENAS policy reports, and relevant youth innovation case studies. The analysis technique was carried out through the stages of data reduction, thematic categorization, and normative interpretation. Results: The study indicate that youth have great potential to create digital innovation, social entrepreneurship, and creative economy that have a direct impact on national economic growth. However, the implementation of legal policies that support youth innovation still faces challenges in terms of institutional synergy, legal assistance, and access to capital. Implications: These findings provide implications that policy reform and strengthening of youth-friendly legal governance need to be a strategic priority for the government to achieve the goal of Indonesia Emas 2045. The synergy between vocational education, the business world, and legal institutions is the key to successful cross-sector collaboration. Novelty: The uniqueness of this study lies in the integration of strategic analysis of youth innovation and legal approaches in one systematic framework, as well as an emphasis on the importance of legal, social, and economic collaboration in long-term development based on the youth generation.

Abstract

Objective: Explain and strengthen the understanding of gender balance in the context of faith and charity based on the thematic interpretation of Surah An-Nisa verse 124, as well as how the principles of equality in Islam can be applied in socio-religious life. Theoretical framework: The concept of justice and gender equality in Islam is based on thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu'i), as well as the principles of faith and charity as pillars of just and inclusive religious life. Literature review: Previous studies of the interpretation of Surah An-Nisa verse 124, the thoughts of commentary scholars on the role of gender in religion, as well as literature that discusses gender equality in the context of Islam and society. Methods: A thematic interpretation approach (maudhu'i) to the verses of the Qur'an (An-Nisa: 124) by examining the context of the text (textual) and the social context (contextual) to understand the meaning and implications of the verses on gender issues. Results: Ayat An-Nisa: 124 shows that Islam upholds the principles of justice and gender equality in terms of faith and charity. There is no difference in reward between men and women who do righteous deeds. This supports the creation of an inclusive and gender-fair society. Implication: This study provides a theological basis for efforts to strengthen the role of women in socio-religious life and is a contribution to the discourse of gender equality in Islam, especially in the context of social interpretation and praxis. Novelty: Using a thematic interpretation approach specifically to An-Nisa: 124 to highlight gender equality in the context of faith and charity, and to relate it to the socio-religious roles of men and women more inclusively and contextually.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the thoughts of Jasser Auda regarding Maqashid Sharia (the objectives of Islamic law) and their implications for the development of Sharia Economic Law in Indonesia. Theoretical framework: As the discourse of Ushul al-Fiqh (Islamic legal theory) continues to undergo contextual reform, the relevance of Maqashid Sharia as a fundamental framework for implementing Islamic law becomes increasingly significant. Jasser Auda offers a paradigm shift by introducing a systems-based approach that reconceptualizes the five classical dimensions of Maqashid into a dynamic and holistic framework. His approach moves away from rigid textualism and towards the realization of values and outcomes that reflect the spirit of Sharia in contemporary contexts. Literature review: The literature review highlights how Auda's model diverges from classical methodologies by focusing on interconnectedness, purposefulness, and context sensitivity. Methods: The research is grounded in a qualitative descriptive methodology. Data were collected from relevant literature, policy documents, and scholarly interpretations of Auda's work. The theoretical framework centers on systems theory, epistemological transformation, and the functional role of Maqashid in legal reform. Results: The findings demonstrate that Jasser Auda’s theory of Maqashid Sharia is highly applicable in revitalizing the role of Islamic law in the contemporary economic domain. In the case of Indonesia, where Sharia economic law is rapidly evolving, Auda’s framework provides an adaptive and value-driven model that supports legal dynamism without compromising foundational principles. Implications: His model also offers practical implications for policy-making, Islamic finance regulation, and economic justice. Novelty: The study contributes novelty by bridging classical Islamic legal philosophy with contemporary legal needs through the lens of systems thinking. This synthesis enhances the responsiveness of Sharia Economic Law to modern challenges and aligns legal goals with the ethical aspirations of Islam.

Abstract

Objective: Identify and interpret the ethical values contained in Surah Al-Hujurat verses 6–12 and analyze their application in daily life and broader social structures. Theoretical framework: A theoretical framework based on Islamic social ethics sourced from the Qur'an, especially the values of information verification (tabayyun), justice in conflict resolution, brotherhood, and prohibition of ridicule, prejudice, and ghibah. Literature review: A literature study that includes the Qur'an, classical and contemporary commentaries, and modern social science literature that addresses ethical and communication challenges in today's Muslim society. Methods: Qualitative research with a thematic interpretation approach (tafsīr maudhū'ī) combined with contextual-sociological analysis, with data collected through literature studies. Results: It was found that the ethical values in Surah Al-Hujurat are not only normative but also highly relevant and applicable in the context of today's digital and multicultural society. The five main values identified are: information verification, conflict resolution, social solidarity, respect for human dignity, and prejudice control. Implication: This study recommends the integration of these Qur'anic ethical values into character education, social policy, and ethical communication practices in society. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the contextual analysis of the application of social ethical values in Surah Al-Hujurat in contemporary digital and multicultural societies, an approach that is rarely discussed in the study of social interpretation in depth.
