Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the priority scale listing technique in preventing academic burnout among students at SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu. Academic burnout is a condition characterized by emotional exhaustion, decreased motivation to study, and feelings of helplessness, often experienced by students due to excessive academic pressure and ineffective time management. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design (one-group pretest-posttest design). The subjects of the study were 10 students identified as having moderate to high levels of academic burnout tendencies, based on initial assessments using a modified version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory–Student Survey (MBI-SS). The intervention consisted of five group counseling sessions incorporating the priority scale listing technique to help students organize their academic tasks and responsibilities more systematically. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test revealed a significant reduction in academic burnout scores after the intervention (Z = -2.803, p < 0.005). These findings indicate that group counseling using the priority scale listing technique is effective in preventing and reducing symptoms of academic burnout among students. The implications of this study highlight the critical role of school counseling services in helping students develop effective time management and decision-making skills to better cope with academic demands.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the experiences of students in practicing muhasabah (self-reflection) and to examine how these experiences contribute to the formation of self-acceptance. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, which allows for an in-depth exploration of the subjective meanings constructed by participants through their spiritual experiences. The research subjects consisted of two tenth-grade students from MAN Tebing Tinggi, selected through purposive sampling, along with two supporting teachers: a Guidance and Counseling (BK) teacher and an Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teacher. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participatory observation, and reflective documentation. The findings indicate that muhasabah, carried out both through school-based religious activities and personal reflection, has a positive impact on how students perceive themselves. This process helps students to understand and accept their shortcomings, cultivate gratitude, and strengthen their spiritual connection with Allah SWT. Additionally, acceptance of destiny (takdir) plays a significant role in fostering inner peace and sincerity in dealing with life’s realities. These findings emphasize that muhasabah affects not only the spiritual aspect but also contributes meaningfully to the psychological well-being of students. In the context of Islamic education, muhasabah can be integrated as a reflective strategy to develop character and strengthen students’ self-acceptance. This study contributes to the development of Islamic counseling that emphasizes internalized values and the holistic formation of self-awareness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the Creative Problem-Solving (CPS) technique in reducing academic stress levels among junior high school students. The background of this research is grounded in the high levels of academic pressure experienced by adolescents, including performance demands, social competition, and expectations from teachers and parents, all of which can trigger academic stress if not properly addressed. CPS, a technique previously widely applied in the development of creative learning, is adapted here as a psychopedagogical intervention strategy in the context of group counseling. This study employed a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 16 ninth-grade students from SMP Negeri 3 Percut Sei Tuan who were identified as having high levels of academic stress. They were selected using purposive sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. The instrument used was an academic stress scale based on four aspects: physiological, cognitive, affective, and conative. Validity and reliability tests showed that the instrument was both valid and reliable (r = 0.45–0.78; α = 0.86). Data analysis was conducted using a paired samples t-test and an independent samples t-test. The results revealed a significant reduction in academic stress scores in the experimental group, from M = 76.69 to M = 62.44 (p < 0.001), with a Cohen’s d of 2.64, indicating a very large effect size. Meanwhile, the control group did not show a significant change (p > 0.05). These findings demonstrate that the CPS technique in group counseling is effective both statistically and practically in reducing students' academic stress. This study offers a new contribution to the field of educational guidance and counseling by integrating a creative approach to help students manage academic pressures constructively and collaboratively.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the causes and symptoms of stress, as well as the coping strategies employed by students of the Islamic Guidance and Counseling Program at the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU), in facing academic pressure that affects their academic performance. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving six active students who were experiencing academic stress during their coursework. The findings indicate that academic stress is caused by multiple factors, including heavy workload, difficulty understanding course materials, limited learning resources, and pressure to maintain or improve their Grade Point Average (GPA). Symptoms of stress included physical fatigue, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and decreased motivation. To cope with these challenges, students employed a combination of strategies: problem-focused coping such as time management and seeking additional resources; emotion-focused coping such as calming themselves and seeking emotional support; and religious coping through spiritual activities such as reciting the Qur’an, performing sunnah prayers, and sending blessings upon the Prophet. These flexible and adaptive coping strategies were found to be effective in managing academic pressure and supporting optimal academic performance.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of Islamic counseling services with the al-muroqabah technique in improving the manners of students to teachers at MTs Negeri 2 Medan. Referring to the phenomenon of declining students' respectful attitudes, this technique is used as a spiritual approach to foster awareness that Allah SWT is always watching human behavior. The research uses a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The results of the pretest were obtained by 8 students who were indicated to have poor manners. Data were obtained through questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a significant improvement (p = 0.012), from the low to high manners category after the intervention. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the al-muroqabah technique in forming a polite, respectful, and obedient attitude in students through spiritual strengthening. Therefore, this technique is recommended to be integrated in Islamic counseling services in madrassas in order to build the character of students as a whole.
