Abstract

The death of a parent is an event that has a deep traumatic impact on a child, especially in emotional and psychological aspects. This grieving experience is a complex and different process for each individual, especially when experienced at the adolescent development stage which is full of personal changes. This research aims to explore the dynamics of the grieving process in adolescents who experience the loss of a parent based on Kubler Ross's theory. The method used is a qualitative method with a case study approach. The data collection process was carried out through observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation in the form of voice recordings and photo elicitation which lasted for three months until data saturation was reached. The selection of participants was carried out using purposive sampling with the criteria of female teenagers who had experience of losing their parents, and were willing to become respondents. The respondents consisted of 3 participants. The data analysis technique goes through four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results showed that all participants experienced emotional and psychological responses when going through Kubler Ross's five stages of grief, namely denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. The grief process experienced by participants is complex, does not run linearly, and is influenced by various personal and contextual factors. Acceptance is not a final, final stage, but rather an ongoing process that continues to transform according to the individual's psychological condition, the social support received, and the way the teenager interprets the loss.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling services using the Solution-Focused Brief Counseling approach on the academic procrastination behavior of 12th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjunganom, Nganjuk Regency, during the 2025/2026 academic year. This study employs a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method and a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 61 students with high levels of academic procrastination. The research instrument was an academic procrastination questionnaire developed based on indicators of delaying the start of tasks and avoiding academic tasks, and its validity and reliability had been tested. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the normality test using the Shapiro–Wilk test indicated that the pretest and posttest data were not normally distributed; therefore, hypothesis testing proceeded with the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The analysis results showed a decrease in the average academic procrastination scores of students from the pretest to the posttest. The Wilcoxon test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that group counseling services using the Solution Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) approach significantly influence the reduction of students’ academic procrastination behavior. This study provides practical implications for guidance and counseling teachers to utilize the SFBC approach as an alternative intervention in helping students overcome academic procrastination, particularly at the high school level.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between emotional maturity and forgiveness among students of SMP Negeri 19 Medan. The research employed a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The sample consisted of 146 students selected through disproportionate stratified random sampling. The research instruments included two scales, namely the emotional maturity scale and the forgiveness scale, both of which had been tested for validity and reliability prior to data collection. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The results revealed a highly significant positive relationship between emotional maturity and forgiveness, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.773 and a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that higher levels of emotional maturity are associated with higher levels of forgiveness among students. Furthermore, emotional maturity contributed effectively 59.8% to forgiveness, while the remaining 40.2% was influenced by other factors beyond the scope of this study. These findings emphasize the importance of emotional maturity as a contributing factor in supporting forgiveness among adolescents in the school environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze factors contributing to depression among late adolescents (aged 18 to 24) in Samarinda City, with a focus on how authoritarian parenting styles shape their emotional experiences and cognitive distortions. Five participants with mild to moderate depressive symptoms (e.g., lack of interest, changes in sleep patterns, social withdrawal, and self-injurious behavior) were selected through purposive sampling to participate in this qualitative case study. Methods such as Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Beck's cognitive theory framework were used to thematically analyze data collected from in-depth interviews and observations. Authoritarian parenting, family discord, and persistent academic pressure all contributed to participants' cognitive distortions, which manifested as pessimistic views of life and the future. Lack of motivation, decreased social functioning, repetitive thoughts, sleep disturbances, and feelings of worthlessness were all attributed to these conditions. Furthermore, low self-esteem and discrepancies in self-concept were influenced by a lack of emotional support from family. The study's findings suggest that multiple factors, including the interaction of cognitive, interpersonal, and family environmental factors, contribute to depression in late adolescence. Restructuring negative thought patterns, improving interpersonal relationships, enhancing self-acceptance, and enhancing psychological well-being in adolescents requires a multimodal intervention approach based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy for Individuals.

Abstract

Indonesia, as the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation, faces persistent challenges in maintaining social cohesion amid rising religio-political tensions and multicultural fragmentation. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) hold a distinctive role as institutions of religious socialization and cultural negotiation. This study explores how pesantren foster social cohesion through a qualitative multi-site case study of three prominent institutions in Java recognized for moderate Islamic thought and engagement with diversity. Data were collected via interviews, participant observation, and document analysis of classical texts (kitab kuning) and institutional curricula, analyzed through Berger’s theory of social construction and Durkheim’s concept of moral education and solidarity. Findings reveal that pesantren integrate universal values such as cooperation (ta’awun), tolerance (tasamuh), and justice (‘adalah) into formal curricula, while hidden curricula and communal practices provide experiential pluralism. Institutional traditions, including national celebrations and interfaith dialogues, further bridge religious identity with civic belonging. These layered processes cultivate graduates with “hybrid identities” that harmonize Islamic piety with commitment to the Indonesian nation-state. The study concludes that pesantren offer an indigenous model of fostering social cohesion neither fully secular nor exclusively religious highlighting their potential as long-term strategies against extremism and as significant contributors to the sociology of education and Islamic studies in contexts of modernity and pluralism.

Abstract

This study analyzes the internalization of Islamic educational values within the Ruwat Bumi tradition in Purwanegoro Village, Banjarnegara Regency. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, the study reveals how Islamic educational values are internalized through cultural rituals. The results indicate that the Ruwat Bumi tradition successfully internalizes Islamic educational values through processes of transformation, transaction, and transinternalization of values. Collaboration between cultural and religious authorities creates a harmonious integration between local values and Islam. This tradition functions as an effective medium for non-formal education through an experiential learning approach. The research findings enrich the theory of the indigenization of Islam and offer a model of character education based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the urgency of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Love-Based Curriculum (KBC) as a comprehensive strategy to counter digital radicalism in Indonesia. This is a literature review in which data was collected from various sources, including books and articles on relevant topics. The research findings indicate that with a significant digital population, particularly among adolescents, there is a high vulnerability to extremist propaganda disseminated through social media. Unique characteristics of digital radicalism, such as rapid spread, targeting of specific demographics, and the formation of echo chambers, accelerate the dissemination of extremist ideologies among students. Based on the analysis, KBC has the potential to minimize this vulnerability by building psychosocial and cognitive resilience. KBC integrates universal values such as empathy, tolerance, and compassion to counter narratives of hatred and polarization. This curriculum emphasizes holistic character education, digital literacy, and ethics, empowering students to think critically and filter information responsibly. The position of the Love-Based Curriculum is highly relevant as a counter-narrative because it actively promotes positive values that are essential in combating radical ideologies. Thus, the Love-Based Curriculum is a strategic step toward realizing a more peaceful and just world.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage characterized by increased vulnerability to psychological challenges, particularly among individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds. Experiences of discrimination and social exclusion may negatively affect adolescents’ self-esteem and identity development. Therefore, identifying effective interventions to support their psychological well-being is essential. This study aims to explore the role of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in enhancing self-esteem among adolescents with minority ethnic identities. This study employed a narrative literature review design, analyzing 10 selected articles published between 2012 and 2024. The literature search was conducted using academic databases, including Google Scholar and Sage Journals, with keywords related to MBCT, self-esteem, adolescents, and ethnic minority. The selected studies were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach to identify key patterns and relationships. The findings reveal that self-esteem among minority adolescents is influenced by a complex interaction of developmental factors, ethnic identity, and experiences of discrimination. Discrimination consistently emerges as a significant risk factor, while ethnic identity and supportive environments function as protective factors. MBCT demonstrates potential as an effective intervention by enhancing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and adaptive coping strategies, thereby helping adolescents manage the psychological impact of discrimination. In conclusion, MBCT offers a promising approach to improving self-esteem among adolescents with minority ethnic identities. However, its effectiveness depends on the presence of inclusive and culturally sensitive environments. Future research should focus on context-specific applications, particularly in non-Western settings.
