Abstract

Climate change has become an urgent global issue, while elementary school students’ understanding and actions regarding this issue remain limited. Learning in schools tends to be theoretical and has not yet integrated contextual local values. This study aims to develop a learning design based on the local wisdom of Sedekah Bumi to enhance students’ understanding of climate change and to foster environmental care character. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a design research model, involving 20 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Gedongboyountung. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that integrating Sedekah Bumi values improves students’ conceptual understanding of climate change and promotes attitudes of mutual cooperation, responsibility, and environmental awareness. The learning process becomes more contextual, meaningful, and enjoyable. The findings support the integration of local wisdom into environmental education curricula to create sustainable learning that is relevant to the Indonesian cultural context.

Abstract

This study analyzes the conceptualization of student-teacher relationships according to Syekh Nawawi al-Bantani and Syekh Hasyim Asy'ari as a response to the moral crisis in contemporary education. Using a qualitative method with a comparative approach, this research examines Syekh Nawawi's Maraaq al-Ubudiyyah and Syekh Hasyim Asy'ari's Adab al-'Alim wa al-Muta'allim. The findings reveal that Syekh Nawawi employs a principle-minimalist approach with 13 universal moral dimensions, while Syekh Hasyim Asy'ari uses a procedural-maximalist approach with 81 detailed substantive points. Both approaches differ in writing format, theme placement, and level of elaboration, yet both emphasize ta'dhim (respect), tawadhu' (humility), and husn al-adab (good ethics) as foundations for blessed knowledge. This study concludes that integrating both approaches can produce an Islamic education model that is theologically solid, operationally clear, and applicable in addressing modern educational challenges. The relevance of their thoughts to achieving blessed knowledge manifests in forming students' characters who are not only intellectually intelligent but also spiritually mature.

Abstract

This research examines Teacher Interpersonal Communication Patterns in the Management of Islamic Character Development at Insan Mulia Rabbani Integrated Elementary School in Talang Ubi District. The study aims to explore the interpersonal communication methods of educators and the management tactics used in instilling Islamic character, particularly through the core activities of Islamic Personal Development (Bina Pribadi Islami/BPI). Information collection utilized triangulation (in-depth interviews, observation, and document review). Data analysis was conducted inductively and interactively, encompassing data condensation to identify key points, structured presentation of findings, and drawing valid conclusions. The main conclusion indicates that verbal interactions between teachers and students are highly flexible and personal, emphasizing exemplary behavior (uswah hasanah) and adapting the language of advice. Key management tactics include the implementation of graduated sanctions and the alignment of school values with the family environment through the Amal Yaumiyah program. Although the strategy has been implemented, crucial obstacles have emerged, such as the limited time allocated for BPI and minimal parental participation (approximately 20%). Based on these findings, the study suggests improving resources and establishing a more flexible communication approach, aimed at strengthening internal coordination and increasing the active role of external parties for the sustainability of character building.

Abstract

This research evaluates the Islamic Education (PAI) curriculum management at SDN 32 Talang Ubi PALI using the CIPP model. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative descriptive data from 175 respondents. Context evaluation (criteria: background, problems, opportunities) scored 16.14%, revealing a vision-practice gap despite management's openness to integrating Islamic values into Kurikulum Merdeka. Input (criteria: teacher competence/readiness) scored 20.21%, revealing digital proficiency but hindered by non-integrated modules, the lack of child protection SOPs, and the absence of a prayer room (mushola). Process (criteria: procedures, methods, supervision) scored 23.99%, indicating inclusive activities though still lecture-dominant, with weak physical documentation and low parental synergy (9.15%). Product (criteria: cognitive, affective, psychomotor) scored 19.99%, noting good learning outcomes, yet character habituation remains inconsistent and lacks independent worship monitoring tools. Overall, curriculum management is categorized as Good (80.33%). Recommendations include building a prayer room, formalizing child protection policies, optimizing gamification, and developing a worship monitoring app to maintain character continuity between school and home.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the principal’s strategies in motivating teachers’ self-directed learning at SD IT Raudhatul Jannah, Talang Ubi District, PALI Regency. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The research informants included the principal, teachers, the school committee, and educational staff. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the principal’s strategies in motivating teachers’ self-directed learning are implemented systematically based on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. The fulfillment of physiological needs is carried out by creating a comfortable and supportive working environment. Safety needs are addressed through a supportive psychological climate, open communication, and a family-oriented working relationship. Social needs are fulfilled through the development of a collaborative culture, teacher forums, and professional learning communities. Esteem needs are met through material and non-material appreciation, which enhances teachers’ self-confidence and intrinsic motivation. Furthermore, self-actualization needs are reflected in teachers’ increased awareness, initiative, innovation, and continuous reflection in self-directed learning. Supporting factors include supportive and visionary leadership, a conducive school culture, adequate facilities, and teachers’ commitment to professionalism. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors consist of limited time due to administrative workload, differences in technological literacy, and the suboptimal follow-up of training outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of compensation on work discipline and teacher performance at MTs Al Azhar Center Baturaja. The research is grounded in the issue of high disciplinary expectations imposed on teachers despite relatively limited financial compensation, which may affect their professional performance and institutional sustainability. The objectives of this study are: (1) to analyze the effect of compensation on teachers’ work discipline, (2) to determine the effect of work discipline on teacher performance, and (3) to examine the direct effect of compensation on teacher performance. This research employed a quantitative approach using a verificative survey design. Data were analyzed through simple linear regression, t-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R²). The findings indicate that compensation has a positive and statistically significant effect on work discipline (t = 10.885; p < 0.05; R² = 0.656). Work discipline also has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance (t = 8.380; p < 0.05; R² = 0.531). Furthermore, compensation directly and significantly influences teacher performance (t = 5.796; p < 0.05; R² = 0.351). These findings suggest that fair and adequate financial compensation strengthens teachers’ discipline and enhances their pedagogical performance. Therefore, effective compensation management is a strategic factor in improving and sustaining teacher performance in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of School Committees in improving the quality of educational services in public elementary schools across Tanah Abang District, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency. This qualitative research employed a multiple-case study design involving three public elementary schools. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, limited participant observation, and document analysis. The analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, enriched with pattern matching and cross-case analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the implementation of school committee roles remains largely administrative and symbolic. The advisory function is procedural rather than deliberative; supporting is incidental rather than strategic; controlling is constrained by limited capacity and transparency; and mediating lacks institutionalization. Drawing on public value governance and co-production perspectives, educational service quality requires institutional capacity building, transparency mechanisms, deliberative planning, and participatory evaluation forums. The study proposes an Integrative School Committee–Service Quality Model positioning the committee as a co-producer of educational service quality.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of the level of empathy and its relationship with bullying behavior in students of State Vocational High School (SMKN) in West Cikarang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method to identify the relationship between empathy variables and bullying behavior. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling, with a total of 124 respondents from SMKN students in West Cikarang. This method was chosen because of the ease of access to research subjects that are in accordance with predetermined criteria. Data collection was carried out using two main instruments, namely the bullying instrument adapted from the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ) to measure bullying behavior, and the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) to measure students' empathy levels. Both instruments have been widely used in previous studies and have good validity and reliability in measuring the construct in question. The data analysis techniques used in this study are descriptive statistics and correlation analysis to see the relationship between the two variables. The results of the study showed that there was a significant negative relationship between empathy and bullying behavior in SMKN students in West Cikarang. This means that the higher the level of empathy that students have, the lower their tendency to engage in bullying behavior. Conversely, low empathy is associated with increased potential for bullying behavior. These findings affirm the importance of developing empathy as one of the preventive efforts to reduce bullying behavior in the school environment, as well as being the basis for schools to design more effective and sustainable intervention programs.

Abstract

Ethical dilemmas are an inherent part of professional practice and can arise in all fields, including the role of school counselors. In the context of educational settings, school counselors are frequently confronted with complex situations that require them to balance professional responsibilities, institutional policies, and the best interests of students. However, not all counselors are fully aware that the challenges they encounter constitute ethical dilemmas, which can lead to uncertainty and inconsistency in decision-making processes. This lack of awareness may hinder their ability to respond appropriately and professionally when faced with sensitive situations. Several common ethical dilemmas experienced by school counselors include issues related to confidentiality, mandatory reporting, professional competence, boundary management, and multiple role relationships. Confidentiality, for instance, often becomes a dilemma when counselors must decide whether to maintain student privacy or disclose information for the sake of the student’s safety or well-being. Similarly, reporting obligations can create tension between ethical principles and legal requirements. Issues of competence may arise when counselors feel inadequately prepared to handle certain cases, while boundary concerns and multiple roles—such as being both a counselor and a teacher—can blur professional limits and complicate interactions with students. These dilemmas can create significant challenges for school counselors in making sound ethical decisions, particularly when clear guidelines are lacking. Therefore, this research is important as it highlights the need to identify and understand the conditions that trigger ethical dilemmas in school counseling practice. The findings are expected to provide valuable insights for policymakers and counseling practitioners to develop comprehensive ethical guidelines and support systems. Ultimately, such efforts can assist school counselors in making informed, ethical, and student-centered decisions in their professional practice.
