Abstract

This study examines the concept of honoring knowledge (‘ilm) and scholars (‘ulama) in the Qur’an through a comparative analysis of the classical exegesis of Ibn Kathīr and the contemporary interpretation of M. Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir Al-Mishbah on Qur’an Surah al-Mujādalah verse 11. The background of this research arises from the shifting perception of religious authority in modern society, characterized by rapid information flows, the rise of instant religious figures, and the weakening of traditional Islamic scholarship. The objectives of this research are: (1) to explain the Qur’anic concept of knowledge and scholars; (2) to compare the interpretative frameworks of Ibn Kathīr and Quraish Shihab; and (3) to identify educational values derived from both exegetical approaches. This qualitative study employs library research, using Tafsīr Ibn Kathīr and Tafsir Al-Mishbah as primary sources. Data were analyzed through content analysis and comparative methods to examine methodological differences, interpretative emphases, and educational implications. The findings show that Ibn Kathīr prioritizes authentic narrations (riwāyāt) in interpreting the verse and highlights social ethics and the Prophet’s exemplary conduct. Meanwhile, Quraish Shihab adopts a maqāṣid-oriented approach, emphasizing universal moral principles and contextual relevance to modern social and educational settings. The study reveals that knowledge in Islam integrates rational, spiritual, and moral dimensions. Scholars are regarded as the inheritors of prophets, entrusted with intellectual and ethical responsibilities. In conclusion, both tafsir traditions complement each other: Ibn Kathīr provides strong textual-historical foundations, while Al-Mishbah offers contextual insights essential for constructing relevant and holistic Islamic educational frameworks.

The development of digital technology has driven the need for innovative learning media that can increase student engagement in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. One interactive media that is starting to be widely used is Wordwall. This study aims to explore the use of interactive Wordwall media in Islamic Religious Education learning in the context of formal education at SD IT Harapan Bunda and non-formal, namely at Ledug Pintar Learning Guidance. This study uses a qualitative approach with a field study design. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the use of interactive Wordwall media can create a more interesting learning atmosphere, increase active student participation, and help educators in delivering Islamic Religious Education materials in a more varied way. In addition, Wordwall is perceived as a flexible and easily adapted media according to the characteristics of students in formal and non-formal education. However, this study also found several obstacles, including limited access to technology and educators' readiness to optimize media features. This study provides effectiveness that the integration of interactive Wordwall media has the potential to support Islamic Religious Education learning that is more contextual and responsive to students' needs.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid technological developments in the digital era, which pose significant challenges in the formation of the religious character of the Alpha generation, especially at the elementary school level. This research is a field research conducted at SD Negeri 2 Purbasari, Purbalingga, using a qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The focus of the research is the formation of students' religious character through religious activities, driving factors, and obstacles encountered. The results show that routine religious activities, such as Religious Friday, tadarus, congregational prayer, dhikr, and the use of interactive media, are effective in fostering religious values in the dimensions of belief, practice, intellect, experience, and consequences. The process of forming religious character is carried out through teacher role models, habituation, and reinforcement, which is in line with modern character education theory and Al-Ghazali's concept of morality. Factors driving success include student enthusiasm, teacher and principal support, and parental involvement, while obstacles include technological distractions, limited facilities, and inconsistent habits at home. This research confirms that varied, enjoyable, and habit-based religious activities are an effective strategy for instilling religious character in the Alpha generation in the digital era.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and conceptualize a multicultural-based Islamic Education (PAI) curriculum development model in strengthening religious moderation within pluralistic school settings. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Padamara, Purbalingga, which represents a religiously diverse student population. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving school principals, teachers, and students. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, coding, thematic categorization, and source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal that the strengthening of religious moderation is not limited to formal instruction but is implemented through an integrative model consisting of three main dimensions: intracurricular, co-curricular, and school culture. These dimensions interact to create a holistic learning experience that fosters tolerance, balance, and respect for diversity. However, the implementation also faces challenges, including varying levels of teacher understanding of religious moderation and uneven student engagement. This study contributes by proposing a contextual and applicable conceptual model of multicultural-based Islamic education curriculum development in pluralistic school environments. The findings highlight the importance of a whole-school approach in fostering sustainable religious moderation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Canva and Powtoon interactive media on the ability to write short stories for grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 7 Bulukumba. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi experiment design in the form of a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class that was treated using the interactive media Canva and Powtoon and the control class that used conventional learning methods. The data collection technique was carried out through a short story writing test in the form of a pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tests with t-tests. The results showed that the significance value of the posttest t-test was 0.000 < 0.05, which means that there was a significant difference between the ability to write short stories for students in the experimental class and the control class. The average posttest score of the experimental class was 85.40 higher than the control class of 74.10. These findings show that the application of Canva and Powtoon interactive media is effective in improving students' short story writing skills. Therefore, Canva and Powtoon interactive media are recommended as alternative learning media in learning to write short stories at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Malay kingdom and the spread of Islam in Jambi in relation to local history and religious traditions. This study examines the role of the Jambi Malay Kingdom in the process of spreading Islam since the 15th century AD, with a focus on the transition from a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom to an Islamic sultanate through trade, political marriages such as that of Ahmad Salim (Datuk Paduka Berhala) with the daughter of Pagaruyung, and the preaching of ulama. The study explores the history of Islamization through heritage sites such as the Orang Kayo Hitam Site, the Olak Kemang Stone House, the Seribu Pilgrimage Mosque, and the Gentala Arasy Museum, which reflect the acculturation of Islam with local Malay culture. In addition, the religious traditions of the Jambi Malay community are discussed such as the commemoration of Assyura, Nisfu Sya'ban, grave pilgrimages, and the art of Zapin-hadrah which integrates Islamic law with local customs, demonstrating the harmony of religion and culture until now. This study uses a historical method (library research) consisting of four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The data collected comes from various sources, such as books, articles, and documents relevant to the topic discussed.

Abstract

Aggressive behavior begins to emerge in early childhood as part of social-emotional development and is closely associated with self-regulation capacity. If not appropriately addressed, aggressive behavior may persist and have negative implications for later academic success. This study aimed to (1) describe the profile of aggressive behavior in preschool children and (2) explore this profile in relation to children’s self-regulation abilities based on teachers’ observations. This study employed a mixed-methods design using a concurrent embedded model. The research population consisted of 877 children aged 4–6 years, with total population sampling applied. Quantitative data were collected using an aggressiveness scale, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with five teachers selected based on children classified in the moderate and high aggression categories. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, whereas qualitative data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that aggressive behavior among children was generally low, with 63.4% of children classified in the low aggression category and only one child in the high aggression category. Emotional aggression—such as anger, crying, and expressions of dislike—was the most dominant form. Children’s aggression was predominantly reactive, triggered by frustration, peer conflict, competition over toys, or unmet desires. Verbal and physical aggression emerged in specific contexts, particularly among children with lower self-regulation abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling using the self-management technique in reducing truancy behavior among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Patianrowo. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group design. The sample was selected through purposive sampling and involved 17 tenth-grade students identified as having high levels of truancy behavior, who were divided into an experimental group (n = 8) and a control group (n = 9). Data on truancy behavior were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using non-parametric statistical tests, namely the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test. The results of the Wilcoxon test in the experimental group showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores, with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.005 (p < 0.05), indicating a substantial reduction in truancy behavior after the implementation of group counseling with the self-management technique. In contrast, the control group did not demonstrate a significant change. Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney U test on post-test scores revealed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), confirming a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the “7 Kebiasaan Anak Indonesia Hebat” (Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children) into the implementation of group counseling with the self-management technique, including habits such as waking up early, religious observance, regular physical exercise, learning enthusiasm, and going to bed early as supporting strategies for fostering students’ disciplinary behavior. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that group counseling using the self-management technique is significantly effective in reducing truancy behavior among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Patianrowo.

Abstract

Weight dissatisfaction is a common psychological phenomenon experienced by adolescents and has the potential to affect the development of self-esteem. Social pressure, ideal body standards, and social comparison make adolescents more vulnerable to negative self-evaluations. This study aims to explore in depth the subjective experiences of adolescents experiencing weight dissatisfaction and its impact on self-esteem. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design and was analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Study participants consisted of two adolescents who were purposively selected and met the criteria for experiencing weight dissatisfaction and low self-esteem. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews. The results revealed three main themes: adolescents' dissatisfaction with their body condition, the impact of body dissatisfaction on self-esteem, and adolescents' efforts to overcome body dissatisfaction, which were broken down into nine superordinate themes. The findings indicate that body dissatisfaction contributes to decreased self-esteem, the emergence of negative emotions, and social avoidance. However, adolescents also demonstrate adaptive coping strategies through social support and self-acceptance processes. This study provides theoretical implications for the phenomenological understanding of body image and practical implications for guidance and counseling services oriented towards self-acceptance and strengthening social support for adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the subjective experience of male students in using journaling as a means of expressing emotions. Previous research has focused more on journaling as an intervention, while individual experiences in undergoing the process, particularly in male students, are still limited to study. This study uses a qualitative approach with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) analysis. Three male students who had been journaling regularly for at least three years were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed following the stages of science. The results show that journaling functions as a private, safe, and reflective space that allows for the expression of emotions without social judgment. This practice facilitates the release of emotions, supports self-reflection, and allows for the negotiation of internalized masculinity norms in a non-confrontational manner. These findings confirm the relevance of journaling in the context of guidance and counseling and expand the study of masculinity by showing that the expression of emotions can take place through internal processes.
