Abstract

This study investigates the impact of cultural elements, personal development, pricing strategies, and tourist attractions on visitor satisfaction and their intent to revisit the Grafika Cikole Tourism Terminal (TWGC) in West Java, Indonesia. The central research problem addressed is the fluctuating number of tourists at TWGC in recent years, potentially threatening the site's sustainability as an ecotourism destination. This fluctuation prompts the need to understand the underlying factors that influence tourist satisfaction and revisit intentions. Utilizing a sample of 210 respondents, data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to elucidate the relationships among the identified variables. The findings indicate that pricing emerged as the most significant determinant of customer satisfaction and tourists' propensity to return to TWGC. Additionally, cultural engagement was found to play a pivotal role in enhancing visitor experiences. Based on these insights, several managerial implications are proposed to bolster tourist interest and satisfaction. These include the enhancement of cultural events, diversification of traditional culinary offerings, the organization of regularly scheduled performances aimed at senior visitors, the introduction of innovative events, and the establishment of competitively priced tour packages. This research contributes to the understanding of the critical factors influencing tourist satisfaction and retention in Indonesian tourism, providing actionable recommendations for stakeholders in the industry.

Abstract

This investigation examines the significance of Electronic Word of Mouth (eWOM) in facilitating sustainable tourism by scrutinizing the digital marketing methodologies and operational practices of Lombok Hidden Trip and Goodfriend Travel in the regions of Bali and Lombok. Although eWOM has been established as an influential mechanism in shaping traveler behavior, its strategic deployment in the context of sustainable tourism marketing is yet to be thoroughly investigated. This research seeks to bridge this gap by evaluating both agencies' adherence to the standards set forth by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) through semi-structured interviews, analysis of social media content, and operational assessments. The findings reveal that Lombok Hidden Trip exhibits a robust commitment to environmental sustainability, integrating eco-tours, initiatives for reusable resources, and proactive engagement on social media platforms. Conversely, Goodfriend Travel prioritizes the preservation of cultural heritage, providing Balinese culinary workshops and traditional rituals; however, it lacks a coherent strategy for the effective utilization of eWOM. Despite their respective contributions, both agencies encounter significant challenges, such as constrained financial resources, inadequate visitor awareness, and a lack of systematic monitoring of sustainability practices. To optimize sustainability outcomes, this study advocates that Goodfriend Travel enhance its eWOM engagement strategies, while Lombok Hidden Trip should broaden its sustainability initiatives. Furthermore, both agencies are encouraged to implement visitor education programs, conduct systematic sustainability audits, and provide training for staff to improve adherence to GSTC standards. This investigation highlights the transformative potential of eWOM in promoting responsible tourism and provides actionable insights for travel agencies, policymakers, and tourism stakeholders to advance environmental, cultural, and social sustainability in the regions of Bali and Lombok.

Abstract

This study explores the application of the Random Forest algorithm in predicting the length of stay (LoS) of hotel guests, a critical metric for optimizing operational efficiency and revenue management in the hospitality industry. The research is grounded in the growing need for predictive analytics to address challenges posed by fluctuating demand, diverse customer preferences, and dynamic market conditions. Accurate LoS predictions allow for better resource allocation, enhanced guest experiences, and optimized pricing strategies, making this study highly relevant for advancing data-driven decision-making in the sector. The methodology involved analyzing a dataset of 453 accounts, which included key features such as ratings, guest types, room preferences, and country of origin. Comprehensive data preprocessing steps, including standardization, feature selection, and dataset splitting into training and testing subsets, ensured the reliability and robustness of the predictive model. The Random Forest algorithm, known for its ability to handle non-linear relationships and high-dimensional data, was implemented to analyze patterns and relationships. The model demonstrated high accuracy, achieving a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 1.89, Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.80, and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of 1.37, effectively capturing the complexity of the dataset. The findings reveal that ratings and guest types are the most influential predictors, underscoring their importance in shaping guest behaviors. While the results are promising, limitations such as dataset size and scope suggest opportunities for further research. Future studies could incorporate more extensive, diverse datasets and explore alternative algorithms to enhance predictive accuracy and adaptability. This research contributes to advancing machine learning applications in hospitality, providing actionable insights to improve operational performance, guest satisfaction, and competitive positioning.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the nature and effectiveness of current tourism product development in the Cikini street area, focusing primarily on heritage-based walking tours and assessing how well these tourism products align with established urban tourism product elements and core urban tourism components, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities to enhance the area's urban tourism appeal and sustainability. Using a descriptive qualitative research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders supplemented by literature reviews and field observations. The findings indicate that product development centers on a heritage-themed walking tour highlighting Cikini's historic buildings and their narratives. This aligns with urban tourism's historic district aspect and incorporates primary and secondary product elements. Major strengths include a strong emphasis on Cikini's distinct historical identity, robust government leadership, and infrastructure improvements such as sidewalk renovations and Taman Ismail Marzuki's (TIM) redevelopment. This  study also reveals limited community engagement in product development and management and that modern digital and innovative tourism technologies are still in their early phases. This research holds significant theoretical and practical value. Theoretically, it advances the understanding of how urban tourism models and product development frameworks are applied within a Southeast Asian megacity undergoing heritage-led revitalization, emphasizing the need to adapt predominantly Western-origin frameworks to local contexts. It also contributes to discussions on top-down governance in heritage tourism. The study recommends expanding tourism by developing unused waterfront areas, encouraging community co-creation, adopting smart tourism technologies, and strengthening branding and governance to improve Cikini’s socio-economic and cultural impact.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has receded from Indonesia, yet it has left enduring historical impacts, particularly on the economic sector, with tourism being one of the affected areas. Post-pandemic recovery has witnessed the emergence of numerous new locations and destinations, particularly water tourism sites, as part of tourism development initiatives. Through researcher observations via surveys and field observations in the Tirtonadi Weir area and Kali Pepe flow, several issues have been identified, including inadequate supporting facilities, suboptimal water flow circulation, less-than-optimal vegetation along the riverbanks, and pollution from inorganic waste in the river. This study adopts a qualitative comparative approach and employs SWOT analysis to compare the Kali Pepe-Tirtonadi Weir in Surakarta with the Nagara River in Japan. Data collection techniques include observation, literature review (books, journals, articles, YouTube videos, magazines, and newspapers), and documentation. Following data collection, a systematic qualitative and SWOT analysis is conducted. The findings reveal differences in management approaches between the Kali Pepe-Tirtonadi Weir and the Nagara River in Japan, attributed to long-term tourism planning, revitalization processes, and river management carried out by policymakers. It is anticipated that the Tirtonadi Weir and the Kali Pepe Stream can evolve into water tourism destinations, serving as new tourism icons in Surakarta City.
