Abstract

Rheumatism in the elderly can cause chronic pain that affects the quality of sleep. One of the factors influencing the sleep pattern of elderly patients with rheumatism is the level of physical activity. Insufficient physical activity can worsen joint stiffness and increase sleep disturbances. This study aims to examine the effect of physical activity on sleep patterns in elderly rheumatism patients at the Sumber Pucung Elderly Posyandu, Malang Regency. This study is a quantitative study with an analytical correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study consisted of all elderly rheumatism patients at the Sumber Pucung Elderly Posyandu, totaling 33 people. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The study was conducted from July 20 to 27, 2025. Data collection instruments used the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaires. The results showed that most respondents (90.9%) had low physical activity and all respondents (100%) had poor sleep patterns. The simple linear regression test yielded a significance value of p = 0.479 (p > 0.05) and R Square = 0.016, indicating no significant effect of physical activity on sleep patterns. Based on these results, it is expected that elderly rheumatism patients can increase physical activity according to their abilities to help maintain sleep quality, and Posyandu officers can provide education and elderly exercise programs appropriate for rheumatism conditions.

Abstract

Deterioration of active ingredients due to exposure to temperature and humidity is a challenge in the development and storage of products containing active ingredients in the pharmaceutical industry. Exposure to high temperatures can accelerate the thermal degradation of active ingredients through mechanisms such as oxidation, decomposition, or Maillard reactions, resulting in decreased efficacy of active ingredients and the generation of undesirable degradation products. Meanwhile, high humidity also plays a role in accelerating the hydrolysis reaction of water-sensitive active ingredients, such as esters or amides, which reduces the chemical stability of the active ingredients. The combination of high temperature and high humidity often results in more complex degradation reactions compared to isolated temperature or humidity conditions, which can accelerate the decline in efficacy of active ingredients. Therefore, this article aims to explore various methods to view the stability of active ingredients under certain conditions, as well as provide recommendations for the development of more efficient formulations and storage strategies to maintain the stability and efficacy of active ingredients throughout the product's shelf life.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of anxiety, stress, and depression in women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) program and to see the distribution of psychological disorders based on sociodemographic characteristics and the stage of IVF program undertaken. The design of this study was descriptive quantitative with purposive sampling technique on 28 women who were undergoing IVF cycles in infertility clinics in Yogyakarta Special Region. Data were collected online through a questionnaire containing Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) instruments. Descriptive analysis showed that most respondents experienced moderate anxiety (42%), mild stress (38%), and mild depression (36%). The analysis also showed that sociodemographic characteristics, such as age older than 35 years, non-working employment status, and low education, had a higher tendency towards psychological disorders. In addition, certain phases of IVF, such as the waiting phase after embryo transfer, appeared to be associated with increased levels of anxiety and stress. This study emphasizes the importance of more intensive psychological support, especially for women who are in the more stressful stages of IVF, as well as for those with sociodemographic risk factors that increase their vulnerability to psychological disorders.

Abstract

Adolescents are a group at risk of emotional and social changes, including the impact of verbal abuse that can lower self-confidence. At SMP Negeri 16 Palangka Raya, some students often face taunts, insults, and hurtful labels from their peers. Some students exhibit shy behavior, withdraw, and have low self-confidence. Verbal abuse is often seen as a joke, but it can negatively affect the psychological condition of adolescents. Positive attitudes are believed to help adolescents face verbal abuse more constructively. This study aims to analyze the relationship between attitudes and adolescents' self-confidence in dealing with verbal abuse. The study used a quantitative method with a correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. A total of 55 students from classes VIII-1 and VIII-2 were selected as samples using total sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman Rank test. The results showed that all respondents had a positive attitude, but 81.8% had only moderate self-confidence. The p-value of 0.007 (< 0.05) indicates a significant relationship between attitude and self-confidence. This suggests that positive attitude alone is not enough, and emotional education and psychosocial support are needed to improve adolescents' self-confidence in dealing with verbal abuse.

Abstract

Urinary incontinence is a common medical condition among older women, characterized by the involuntary leakage of urine due to impaired bladder control. This condition not only affects physical health but also has significant psychosocial impacts, including reduced self-confidence and quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions, particularly pelvic floor muscle exercises, have been recognized as effective strategies to strengthen the bladder sphincter and pelvic floor muscles, thereby enhancing urinary retention. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle exercises in reducing the frequency of urinary incontinence among elderly women. An experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. The study population consisted of 64 elderly women receiving care at the Gunung Pati Public Health Center in Semarang, from which 45 participants were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and clinical observation to assess the frequency of urinary incontinence episodes before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and the results indicated a significant reduction in urinary incontinence episodes following the exercise program, with a p-value of <0.001. These findings suggest that pelvic floor muscle exercises are a simple, cost-effective, and non-invasive intervention to manage urinary incontinence in elderly women. Implementing such exercises in community health programs can play a vital role in promoting the well-being and independence of older women. The study recommends incorporating pelvic floor muscle training into routine elderly care services and encourages further research with larger samples and longer follow-up periods to confirm the long-term benefits.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) remain the leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, and one of the chronic conditions included in this group is rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA is an autoimmune disease that affects the synovial joints, resulting in persistent inflammation, chronic pain, stiffness, and eventual deformities if left untreated. In Indonesia, the burden of RA continues to grow; the prevalence reaches 11.9% based on clinical diagnosis and rises to 24.7% when measured using symptom-based diagnosis. This case study aimed to describe family nursing care for a client with RA through a structured nursing process approach to improve quality of life and family involvement. The study took place in Purwodadi Village, Tonjong Subdistrict, Brebes Regency, focusing on the family of Mr. AS with Mrs. W as the client diagnosed with RA. Data collection involved comprehensive interviews, direct observation, physical examination, and documentation review. Assessment findings included chronic pain with an intensity score of 4, limited mobility, and inadequate family knowledge regarding RA management. Nursing interventions implemented were family education on RA, simple rheumatic exercises tailored to the client’s ability, and the application of warm ginger compresses as a non-pharmacological pain relief method. Post-intervention evaluation showed pain reduction to a score of 2, improved independence in performing light daily activities, and enhanced family understanding and support. In conclusion, family-centered nursing care combined with non-pharmacological interventions can effectively reduce pain, improve mobility, and strengthen the family’s role in supporting RA management.
