Abstract

Purpose - This study evaluates the management of facilities and infrastructure, a crucial component for learning quality in public primary schools. Persistent issues like inadequate facilities and weak maintenance prompted an in-depth examination of facility management at SDN Gambiran 01 Jember. The study aims to assess how facilities are planned, implemented, and evaluated to meet institutional needs.Design/methods/approach – A qualitative case study approach was used. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Participants, including the school principal, teachers, and administrative staff involved in facility management, were purposively selected.Findings – Facility planning and procurement are conducted in a participatory, needs-based manner, aligning with regulations. However, utilization and maintenance face challenges due to budget limitations, lack of technical personnel, and limited technology use. A culture of cooperation and adaptive leadership emerged as key supporting factors.Research implications/limitations – The study is limited by its focus on a single institution and reliance on qualitative data. Implications highlight the need for targeted technical training for elementary school staff and developing data-driven evaluation systems to inform long-term educational policy.

Abstract

Amid rapid technological change and intensifying global competition, educational institutions face increasing pressure to integrate digital innovation and entrepreneurial practices to remain competitive and relevant. However, the strategic convergence of these domains remains insufficiently examined, particularly in Southeast Asia. This study aims to explore how digital innovation, and entrepreneurship can be strategically integrated to enhance institutional competitiveness and cultivate future-ready skills among learners. Utilizing a qualitative approach through a systematic literature review, thirteen peer-reviewed articles were analyzed based on contextual relevance and methodological rigor, employing thematic content analysis to identify core insights. The results reveal four critical themes: the transformative role of digital technologies in education; effective entrepreneurial strategies such as project-based learning and Market Day initiatives; the evolving landscape of institutional competition driven by technological advancements; and significant challenges including limited infrastructure, policy gaps, and uneven implementation. The findings underscore the potential of integrated digital and entrepreneurial strategies to foster innovation and adaptability within educational institutions. This study contributes to both academic discourse and practical policymaking by offering a nuanced understanding of how such integration can drive sustainable educational transformation, while also highlighting the need for visionary leadership and collaborative ecosystems. Future research is encouraged to validate these insights through empirical studies in diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

Purpose – This study investigates how inclusive disaster education is implemented for students with special needs in Indonesia, addressing a critical gap where vulnerable groups often lack adequate preparedness. It aims to examine the effectiveness of visual learning strategies and identify challenges in practice.Design/methods/approach – A qualitative case study was conducted at SLB BC Harapan Ibu, Jakarta, involving interviews with teachers and parents, classroom observations, and analysis of educational materials and evacuation drills to explore practical implementation and obstacles faced.Findings – The study found that visual media significantly improved students’ understanding of safety procedures. However, challenges remain, including the lack of official educational modules tailored for special needs contexts, insufficient school infrastructure, and the need for repetitive instruction for students with intellectual disabilities. These insights contribute practical knowledge on how inclusive disaster education can be operationalized in special needs schools.Research implications/limitations – This research is limited to a single school context, which may constrain generalizability. Future studies should explore diverse educational settings and develop standardized disaster preparedness materials to ensure broader, effective implementation of inclusive disaster education.

Abstract

Digital games are increasingly recognized as potential tools for non-formal learning, including enhancing financial literacy and social skills. This study was conducted to explore how Grand Theft Auto V Online, as a popular commercial game, can serve as a medium for non-formal education that facilitates understanding of digital economy concepts and financial literacy. Employing a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, the research involved participant observation where the researcher actively engaged as a player, supplemented by field notes and visual documentation as data collection techniques, analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings revealed that GTA V Online players engage in financial decision-making, management of virtual businesses, application of passive income strategies, and development of social skills through collaborative interactions. These results indicate that GTA V Online holds significant potential as a non-formal learning medium integrating entertainment with educational processes, although challenges remain regarding sensitive content and the necessity for appropriate pedagogical frameworks. This study contributes to expanding the understanding of commercial games as alternative educational tools while opening avenues for future research to quantitatively assess impacts and design more inclusive and safe pedagogical approaches.

Abstract

The low level of scientific literacy among Indonesian elementary school students remains a major challenge in education, requiring innovative and contextual learning strategies. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving elementary students’ science learning outcomes while enhancing higher-order thinking skills. A quasi-experimental method was employed with a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants consisted of 20 fourth-grade students divided into experimental and control groups. The research instrument was a learning achievement test, and the data were analyzed using an independent t-test to examine differences between the two groups. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the experimental group compared to the control group, both in terms of mean scores and the range of learning outcomes. These results confirm that PBL not only enhances science learning achievement but also positively influences students’ motivation and engagement. This study contributes to the development of constructivist-based teaching practices that align with 21st-century educational demands. Future research is recommended to involve larger samples and longer study durations to explore the long-term impact of PBL on students’ scientific literacy.

Abstract

The rapid integration of digital reporting systems in education has transformed how schools manage academic data, yet user satisfaction remains a critical factor determining successful adoption. This study aimed to evaluate teacher satisfaction with the e-Rapor application at SMPN 5 Sangatta Utara using the WebQual framework, focusing on information quality, interaction quality, and usability. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed with a survey design involving all 35 teachers who used the application as respondents. Data were collected using an online questionnaire and analyzed descriptively to identify satisfaction levels and key areas for improvement. The findings indicate that information quality achieved the highest satisfaction score, showing that the application provides accurate, relevant, and easy-to-understand data. Usability also received a positive response but highlighted the need for more intuitive interface design and regular training, while interaction quality showed weaknesses in system responsiveness during simultaneous access and limited technical support. Overall, the study demonstrates that WebQual is an effective evaluation tool for assessing digital reporting systems and offers practical insights for improving educational technology implementation. This research contributes to the development of strategies for optimizing digital transformation in school administration and supports sustainable adoption of technology-based learning systems .

Abstract

Purpose – The aim of this research is to determine the perception of front office staff regarding the importance of English in Tegal City.  Design/methods/approach – The research object was front office staffs of a 3-star hotel in Tegal City.  The design of this research is a case study with data collection methods in the form of questionnaires, observation and literature study.  Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis with a quantitative approach.Findings - The results of the research showed that front office staff's perception of the importance of English in Tegal City is viewed positively. English language skills are one of the important things that FO staff must master. The factors underlying this are the large number of FO terms that use English, the requirement to be able to communicate in English with foreign guests, as well as the obligation to provide maximum professional and friendly service. Respondents' interest in maximizing potential in English skills is seen as a good perception of the importance of English. Research implications/limitations – This study focuses on front office staff working at three-star hotels in Tegal City. A total of eight respondents participated in the research, all of whom are employed in the front office departments of these hotels. The main objective of this study is to explore their perceptions regarding the importance of English language skills in the hospitality industry, particularly in delivering quality service to guests.
