Abstract

The focus of this research is to enhance community political participation in the village head elections in Separi Besar Village, Tenggarong Seberang Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, which has historically shown low participation rates. The research method used is action research with a participatory approach, involving collaboration between researchers, community leaders, and political experts. The research comprises three stages: preliminary study preparation, implementation of political socialization and outreach programs, and evaluation and reflection. The results of the research indicate that the community service program successfully increased political participation among villagers significantly. Before the intervention, only 30% of villagers actively participated in the village head elections; however, after the program was implemented, participation rose to 65%. The level of understanding among villagers regarding the importance of political participation and the election process also increased from 40% to 80%. Interviews and observations showed an increase in villagers' trust in the local political system and their involvement in other village activities. The recommendation from this research is to expand political education programs to other villages facing similar issues. These programs should include intensive socialization, distribution of educational materials, and election simulations to provide practical experience for villagers. These measures are expected to strengthen local democracy and enhance the overall welfare of village communities.

Abstract

In an effort to enhance the teaching competencies of students, the Field Experience Program (PPL) at MTsN 7 Aceh Utara was implemented with the goal of applying educational theory in real-world practice. This study employs an action research approach with a classroom action research design, involving cycles of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research methods include observation, interviews, documentation, and self-reflection by the practitioners. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to identify patterns and necessary improvements in the teaching process. The findings indicate that the implementation of PPL successfully improved practitioners' skills in determining and preparing teaching materials, applying effective teaching techniques, and developing well-structured Lesson Plans (RPP). Practitioners also gained direct teaching experience, enhanced classroom management, and better understood student characteristics. Additionally, the use of teaching media was refined, contributing to an increased understanding of the material by students. Although the PPL program yielded positive results, several challenges such as student attitudes and preparedness emerged. Efforts to address these challenges included regular consultations with supervising teachers, creating a conducive learning environment, personal approaches with students, and providing motivation. The recommendations from this study are the reinforcement of classroom management strategies, increased student participation through personal approaches, and the use of more varied teaching media to support a more effective teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This community service activity focuses on enhancing the English language skills of youth, particularly in the context of English for Tourism, with the aim of increasing their competitiveness in the local job market, especially in the tourism sector. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a participatory action research approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires completed by training participants. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively to assess the effectiveness of the teaching methods and their impact on participants' English skills. The study's findings outline the following steps: 1) Planning, which includes: (a) setting goals and objectives, (b) selecting methods and strategies, and (c) preparing a work plan. 2) Implementation, which combines conceptual learning and field practice, including: (a) structured English courses covering basic conversations, tourism terminology, and practical situations in tourism jobs, and (b) field practice through simulations and hands-on activities at local tourist sites. 3) Evaluation conducted weekly and at the end of the program, to measure achievements and provide notes and recommendations for similar future activities. For follow-up, it is recommended to conduct regular meetings, assign competent PkM students, and optimize campus support by establishing an English language course institution. This program aims not only to improve the English skills of youth but also to support local economic development through the tourism sector and related industries.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and develop a learning program for children’s religious education at the Firya Lientas Housing Community in Lhokseumawe. The research employs an action research approach with qualitative methods to understand and enhance the effectiveness of the program. The methodology involves five main steps: problem identification, action planning, action implementation, observation and data collection, and reflection. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative techniques, including transcription, coding, thematic development, and data interpretation. The results indicate that the development of religious education activities has had a positive impact, as evidenced by increased understanding of religious values and the development of social-emotional skills. The increased support from parents, demonstrated by their willingness to contribute financially to the program and the establishment of active communication for mutual support, also reflects the positive impact of these activities. The active involvement of housewives who serve as religious teachers (ustazah) in imparting religious values, developing social-emotional skills, providing moral support, and planning the children’s religious education activities has helped enhance understanding of religious values and social-emotional skills through the development of teaching materials, implementation of interactive learning strategies, and ongoing evaluation. Based on these findings, additional training and preparation are needed for housewives who serve as teachers (ustazah) to better equip them to competently support children’s education.

Abstract

This research aims to enhance the professionalism of teachers and staff at the Pesantren Tahfidhul Qur'an Al-Umm Smart Center through the "Charge & Recharge" workshop. Action Research method is employed with planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The workshop involves teachers and staff in planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results indicate improvements in teaching competence, classroom management, and managerial skills. Evaluation employs questionnaires, interviews, observations, and participant-facilitator reflections. The outcomes of evaluation and reflection are analyzed to identify strengths and weaknesses of the workshop, providing feedback for future competence development activities for teachers and staff. The workshop proves effective in enhancing the professionalism and performance of teachers and staff, with identified strengths such as interactive methods and weaknesses such as the workshop's short duration. In conclusion, the "Charge & Recharge" workshop offers relevant and effective training, emphasizing sustainable self-development for participants. Thus, this endeavor can bolster the quality of education and management at the pesantren.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' understanding of the concept of religious moderation and encourage the implementation of its values in daily life. The research method used is action research, which involves cycles of planning, implementation, reflection, and real action. In the planning stage, needs identification was conducted through focus group discussions (FGDs) and interviews to measure students' initial level of understanding. The implementation stage involved the delivery of material by resource persons through interactive lectures, case discussions, and simulations. The reflection stage was conducted through group discussions and individual reflection journals to evaluate students' understanding. Concrete actions are in the form of developing action plans for the implementation of religious moderation values. The results showed a significant increase in student understanding based on pretest and posttest data analysis. Reflections showed that students were able to identify the main challenges of intolerance and committed to organizing interfaith education and dialogue activities. The implications of this study include the importance of experiential participatory approaches in learning religious moderation, which can be applied in other higher education institutions. In addition, the publication of the research results can serve as a reference for the development of similar programs in a broader context.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Guided and Independent Field Experience Program (PPL) at State Junior High School 13 Lhokseumawe, conducted in 2024. The research method employed is qualitative, using an action research approach to evaluate and enhance the teaching competencies of prospective teachers during the PPL. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation to gather information about students' experiences across the four stages of PPL: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results show that each stage of PPL provides valuable experience for student teachers, with a focus on developing classroom management skills, teaching techniques, and integration of character education values in learning. The main challenges faced by students are effective classroom management, declining student interest in learning in the digital era, and changing attitudes towards educators. The implications of this study indicate the need for the development of more creative classroom management skills, the use of technology in learning, and strengthening professional reflection in developing prospective teachers' competencies.

Abstract

This service-based research aims to empower the community of Blang Cut Village, Meurah Mulia District, North Aceh Regency, through training in coconut processing into coconut chips. A Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach was applied to actively involve the community in all stages of the activity, which included observation, planning, experimentation, implementation, and evaluation and reflection. The research was conducted in November 2023, with a method involving cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection according to the action research framework. Data collection techniques included semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and participant satisfaction surveys, which were analyzed using qualitative, quantitative, and SWOT approaches. The results showed an increase in participants' skills and confidence in processing coconut independently, with 85% of participants feeling capable of producing coconut chips after the training. The satisfaction survey noted that 90% of participants were satisfied with the learning-by-doing method applied. From an economic perspective, there was an increase in community awareness of the potential added value of the product, which was previously only sold as raw coconut at Rp3,000 per grain, to coconut chips at Rp10,000 per pack. Social impacts include the formation of joint business groups and increased community solidarity. The implications of this research include strengthening the local resource-based creative economy, particularly in the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The program encourages village economic sustainability through collaboration with the government and local MSMEs, as well as the potential for developing other innovative products. With follow-up in the form of continuous assistance, Blang Cut Village can become the center of the coconut-based creative economy in the region.

Abstract

This research aims to empower the community of Gampong Rayeuk Paya Itek through the management of plastic waste into economic value products in the form of mats. The research objectives include improving community skills in recycling plastic waste, increasing awareness of the importance of waste management, and developing an online marketing network for craft products. The research used a participatory qualitative approach with the Participation action research (PAR) method through observation, training, and mentoring integrated in a 3R-based empowerment program (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Data was collected through interviews and documentation. The results showed the success of this program in environmental, social, and economic aspects. A total of 45 kg of plastic waste was successfully managed, creating a cleaner environment and increasing community awareness of the importance of recycling. Socially, the housewives' skills improved in processing plastic waste into mats, strengthening collaboration between residents, and creating positive synergy with student participation. The economic impact is in the form of additional income through the sale of mats for Rp25,000-Rp30,000 per piece, as well as wider market access through social media. The program also encourages sustainability through community commitment to continue production, continued training support from the village government, and community-based business development plans. The implications of the research include an effective community empowerment model in overcoming plastic waste problems, improving community welfare, and contributing to the literature on local empowerment-based plastic waste management.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate digital marketing training and mentoring for micro-entrepreneurs in Gampong Keude Karieng, Meurah Mulia District, North Aceh Regency. This activity was designed to increase the capacity of local entrepreneurs by utilizing digital technology in developing businesses. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach with a type of participatory action research. Data collection techniques were conducted using questionnaires, direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out by analyzing qualitative data and quantitative data. The method used is a phased training approach, which starts with Problem Identification, Training Planning, Training Implementation which is divided into four sessions with digital marketing material involving 15 participants aged between 24 to 40 years, Evaluation and Follow-Up.  The results showed that the training successfully improved participants' understanding of the importance of digital marketing and its benefits for expanding market reach. However, there were challenges related to technological infrastructure, particularly unstable internet networks, as well as differences in motivation between young and more mature participants. The implications of this study suggest the importance of improving digital infrastructure in rural areas as well as the need for a more segmented approach based on age and experience to increase interest in entrepreneurship.
