Abstract

The government's plan to vaccinate the Indonesian population for Covid-19 has encountered obstacles due to the emergence of hoaxes regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. Several students of Biology Department of IAIN Kerinci who have contracted biotechnology courses, that some of these students have not dared to be vaccinated against Covid-19 because they were affected by the Covid-19 vaccine hoax. The research was conducted on students who had contracted biotechnology courses at the Biology Department of IAIN Kerinci, using quantitative methods and correlational approaches. From the results of the study, it was found that the level of understanding of students' biotechnology was in a low category, namely 42.85% with a frequency of 27 respondents. Meanwhile, students' stress coping strategies in receiving the Covid-19 vaccine were in the high category, namely 84.12% with a frequency of 53 respondents. The results of the correlation analysis show a significance value of 0.007 and it means that there is a relationship between the two variables in this study, but the interpretation of the correlation is categorized as low with a correlation coefficient value of 0.335. This means that increasing understanding of biotechnology will affect the improvement of students' stress coping strategies in receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of ambient music on the concentration levels and learning outcomes of students with an auditory learning style in the genetics course. This study is quasi experimental research using a monomethod Multistrand Design with sequential data collection. The first stage of data collection was conducted to obtain data on auditory learning styles in students, which were later divided into two groups (experimental and control). The sampling technique in this study was done randomly. Based on the Slovin formula, the research sample size was determined to be 77 participants for collecting learning style data. Subsequently, from the 77 participants, 26 students with an auditory learning style were identified. Data were collected using a learning style questionnaire, the Army Alpha Intelligence Test, and exams. Based on hypothesis testing using the t-test, the concentration level of student learning showed a Sig. (2-tailed) t-test value of 0.023, and the student learning outcomes showed a Sig. (2-tailed) t-test value of 0.035, both <0.05. The results of the study indicate that the provision of ambient music in learning can have a positive impact on the concentration levels and learning outcomes of students in the genetics course.

Abstract

Critical thinking and argumentation skills play an important role in influencing students' level of self-efficacy in the biology learning process. The research approach used in this study is a quantitative method with a 2 x 2 factorial design. Data were analyzed using SPSS software to present descriptive statistics of critical thinking skills with arguments on self-efficacy, as well as testing the inter-subject effects of critical thinking skills with arguments on self-efficacy. The research results indicate that there is a significant difference between critical thinking skills and argumentation in influencing the level of self-efficacy. Therefore, it can be concluded that the null hypothesis (Ho) which states that there is no interaction between critical thinking skills and argumentation in influencing self-efficacy, is rejected. The research conclusion confirms that there is a significant interaction between critical thinking skills and argumentation in influencing self-efficacy. This interaction follows an ordinal relationship pattern which is depicted almost at the intersection of the lines between the high and low groups, indicating the influence of critical thinking skills and argumentation on self-efficacy.

Abstract

One of the obstacles to propagating red starfruit (Baccaurea angulata) using seeds is that fruit without seeds is often found. Tissue culture is an alternative for propagating red star fruit plants to provide seeds or secondary metabolites through callus culture. The research aims to determine the effect of 2,4-D and kinetin on callus growth of star fruit leaves and to obtain the best concentration to induce callus. This research used a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two treatment factors, namely 2,4-D (0; 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5 ppm) and kinetin (0; 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5 ppm). The observation parameters consisted of callus emergence time (days after planting), wet and dry weight of the callus (g), color and texture of the callus. The results showed that the combination of 2,4-D and kinetin had a significant effect to callus emergence time, but didn't on the wet and dry weight of the callus. The fastest callus emergence time was obtained of 2.5 ppm 2,4-D + 0.5 ppm kinetin, 1.5 ppm 2,4-D + 2.5 ppm kinetin namely 6 DAP. The callus color is white, brown, and brown with a friable and compact texture. Another response that emerged was root growth.
