Abstract

One of the work-related musculoskeletal diseases is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), which is a common occupational health problem among workers who frequently perform tasks involving prolonged hand use and improper positioning. CTS occurs when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, causing paresthesia, numbness, and muscle weakness in the hand. The purpose of this educational session was to increase knowledge and awareness regarding the prevention and management of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome through physiotherapy exercises that can be performed independently by office workers. The methods included education on the definition, prevalence, risk factors, symptoms, and self-managed physiotherapy exercises, using leaflets and PowerPoint slides as educational media. The results of the physiotherapy education session conducted at the Department of Education and Culture of Kutai Barat showed an improvement in workers’ knowledge about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and the physiotherapy exercises that can be performed independently

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) management involves both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. One solution to prevent and manage LBP is through workplace interventions. Job demands are often linked to some of the main causes of occupational diseases, such as repetitive physical tasks, improper posture, and stress from uncomfortable standing positions, all of which occur while working. Objective: To enable participants to recognize ergonomic work positions and self exercise that can be done independently at work and at home. Methods: The method given was counseling to teachers and teaching staff in the form of health promotion about the introduction of the physiotherapy profession, Low Back Pain (LBP) conditions, a brief description of ergonomics, ergonomic aspects, good and correct ergonomics and self exercise at work and at home using power point media (PPT) and leaflets by conducting pre-post tests to measure the level of knowledge. Conclusion: From the volleyball sports community physiotherapy activities carried out on March 18, 2025 at SDN 001 Merancang Ilir showed significant results in increasing knowledge. This increase shows the effectiveness of the counseling conducted in providing a better understanding of injury prevention practices.

Abstract

Gestational diabetes (GDM) is one of the pregnancy complications characterized by glucose intolerance that first appears during pregnancy. This condition not only increases the risk of complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, and macrosomia, but also has long-term effects on both the mother and baby, including a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. The PKM SADARI GDM Movement (Awareness and Risk Detection of Gestational Diabetes) aims to improve the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women in the community regarding the risks and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), as well as to promote early detection through educational approaches and simple screening. This community service program is carried out through several methods, including interactive education and outreach on GDM, physical activity training using prenatal yoga as a non-pharmacological preventive measure, risk screening using questionnaires and random blood glucose testing, and continuous assistance and monitoring throughout the program. The solutions offered include the provision of easy-to-understand information, early risk detection, and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle that can be independently practiced with the support of local health workers. In conclusion, the SADARI GDM movement serves as an effective and applicable strategy to increase pregnant women's awareness of the importance of GDM prevention through education, early detection, and structured physical activity, and it has the potential to become a sustainable promotive and preventive effort at the community level.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the uncontrolled growth of cells (cancer) in the cervix. All women are at risk of developing this cancer. However, sexually active women are more likely to be affected. In its early stages, cervical cancer usually does not cause easily recognizable symptoms. The most common symptom is abnormal bleeding, for example, bleeding after sex, outside the menstrual cycle, or after menopause. The benefits and objectives of this outreach program are expected to improve women's knowledge and quality of life regarding cervical cancer prevention. The method used in this program is to provide health education through counseling about cervical cancer and cervical cancer prevention practices such as proper vaginal hygiene. Based on a self-awareness survey, the most common problem identified was a lack of knowledge about cervical cancer and a lack of awareness of early cervical cancer prevention methods. The priority problem was the lack of knowledge among the Sawangan Village community about early cervical cancer detection in women of childbearing age (WUS). To address this, we implemented one effort by conducting outreach on cervical cancer for women of childbearing age (WUS) and providing guidance on proper vaginal hygiene to prevent cervical cancer. After the outreach and practice of cervical cancer prevention, participants had a better understanding of cervical cancer and how to prevent it.

Abstract

Malaria in Indonesia remains a major public health concern in the eastern regions, despite a national decline in prevalence. An analysis of partner data obtained for 2024 indicates that approximately 93% of districts/cities in Indonesia have become malaria-free; however, Papua and West Papua still account for over 60% of national cases. In Papua Province, malaria is classified as highly endemic, with an Annual Parasite Incidence (API) reaching 12.5 per 1,000 population. Pregnant women constitute a vulnerable group due to limited access to antenatal care services and low use of insecticide-treated bed nets. Biak Numfor District is categorized as moderately endemic, with an API of 4.2 per 1,000 population and approximately 1,850 malaria cases throughout 2024, including 210 cases affecting pregnant women. Key risk factors include tropical conditions, population mobility and insufficient health education. Within the service area of Biak Kota Health Center, approximately 280 malaria cases were recorded in 2024, including 35 cases among pregnant women. The objective of this community service activity is to enhance the knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of toddlers within the Biak Kota Health Center’s service area regarding malaria, including its transmission routes, impacts on pregnancy, causes, symptoms, and consequences of malaria during pregnancy (such as anemia, miscarriage, and low birth weight), prevention methods through the use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), maintaining environmental cleanliness, and avoiding mosquito bites, as well as the importance of routine blood testing for malaria during antenatal care (ANC) visits. The method employed involved small group discussions using leaflet.

Abstract

The role of mothers is very strategic in preventing stunting through fulfilling nutritional needs during pregnancy, providing exclusive breastfeeding, implementing balanced nutritional complementary feeding (MP-ASI), and regularly monitoring child growth and development. Mothers also play a role in maintaining environmental cleanliness, accessing basic health services (ANC, immunization, iron supplementation), and implementing responsive parenting practices. Objective: This Community Service Program aims to improve mother’s knowledge in preventing and managing stunting through nutrition education, growth and development monitoring. Methods: The methods used in this program included screening, lectures, and discussions, with sequential stages consisting of field observation and problem identification, proposing solutions, activity planning, implementation, and evaluation. Activities were carried out through interactive counseling sessions, demonstrations of growth monitoring, and screening or detection of child growth status. Results: The results showed a significant increase in mothers’ knowledge. The proportion of mothers with knowledge increased from 30% to 90% after receiving the educational intervention. Conclusion: The educational activities implemented were proven effective in strengthening mothers’ capacity in stunting prevention and have the potential to reduce stunting risk at the household and community levels. Structured and targeted education needs to be continuously enhanced as part of strategies to accelerate stunting prevention.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood characterized by biological, emotional, social, and cognitive changes. During this period, adolescents’ reproductive organs begin to function actively, making them a vulnerable age group to various reproductive health problems, such as unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and early marriage. These problems are often influenced by adolescents’ low level of knowledge regarding reproductive health. Adolescent reproductive health refers to a healthy condition related to the reproductive system, functions, and processes, encompassing physical, mental, social, and cultural aspects. Therefore, maintaining reproductive health during adolescence is very important as a preventive effort against future health risks. The purpose of this counseling activity was to increase and enhance adolescents’ knowledge of reproductive health. The method used was health education through interactive counseling. Based on the results of a self-assessment survey, it was found that the main problem was a lack of reproductive health knowledge among 30 adolescents. To address this issue, counseling was conducted covering the definition of reproductive health, common reproductive health problems, and ways to maintain reproductive health. After the counseling session, participants showed high enthusiasm for the material presented through leaflets and video media.
