Abstract

Traditional Indonesian massage is a form of physical therapy and part of cultural identity and ancestral heritage that is maintained and passed on from generation to generation. The phenomenon of traditional Indonesian massage is an important part of the culture and healing tradition, which includes various massage techniques passed down from ancestors and has roots in beliefs, traditional healing practices, and the local heritage of the Indonesian people. Fever in babies can cause anxiety in the mother. A safe solution that minimizes drug side effects is non-pharmacological therapy. This research aimed to determine the impact of traditional massage on reducing fever in babies. This type of research is quantitative research. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique with a total of 60 babies who had fever criteria. Data analysis used the t-test. The study's results showed that the average temperature measurement for babies before the traditional massage was 38.15 degrees Celsius (low fever), while the average temperature measurement for babies after the traditional massage was 36.78 degrees Celsius (normal). The results of the statistical hypothesis analysis show that traditional massage has a significant effect on reducing fever in babies. This means traditional massage can significantly reduce fever in babies, with an average reduction of 1.37 degrees Celsius. This research contributes to providing information to mothers and midwives about the benefits of baby massage for treating fever, baby growth and development.

Abstract

The direct causes of maternal death during childbirth are bleeding, infection, and eclampsia. Within bleeding and infection as causes of death, deaths due to infected abortion and prolonged labor are also included. Meanwhile, one of the causes of prolonged labor is tension and fear, which aggravates labor pain and ultimately slows down the birth of the baby. One method of non-pharmacological pain control is through nursing communication, namely therapeutic communication. This research aims to determine the effect of implementing therapeutic communication in efforts to reduce the intensity of labor pain in the first stage. This research method is an analytical survey method that uses one group pretest-posttest. The total sample was 25 maternal patients giving birth. Data analysis used the paired sample t-test. The study's results showed a significant difference in the intensity of pain in the first stage of labor before and after the therapeutic communication intervention was given. Therapeutic communication can strengthen the relationship between the midwife and the mother in cases of the intensity of first-stage labor pain, increase the mother's understanding, encourage emotional expression, and reduce worry and anxiety. Based on evidence of the effectiveness of research data, this research contributes to recommending therapeutic communication as a non-pharmacological strategy for overcoming tension and fear that aggravate labor pain.

Abstract

Earthquake disasters can significantly impact the psychological well-being of victims across all age groups, particularly children. As a vulnerable group, children face unique challenges in coping with disaster situations due to their limited abilities, resources, and immature psychological adaptations. Various interventions have been explored to address disaster-related trauma in children. In Indonesia, Randai, a traditional cultural performance, is believed to help reduce psychological trauma in children. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Randai therapy in alleviating psychological trauma among children affected by earthquakes. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental study design with pretest-posttest assessments. The sample size is 202 respondents, consisting of 101 for the Randai intervention group and 101 for the control group. The results of this study showed a pretest score for trauma level of 25.61 before Randai therapy and a posttest score of 20.96 after Randai therapy. There is a significant difference between the psychological trauma of respondents before and after being given Randai therapy, with an average value of 25.61 with a standard deviation of 7.800 and an average value of 20.96 with a standard deviation of 7.511 respectively. It was found that Randai therapy had positively reduced psychological trauma among children after the earthquake (p-value < 0.05). Randai therapy is significant in reducing psychological trauma in children after the earthquake in Kajai West Pasaman, West Sumatra. This study contributes by revealing the effectiveness of traditional Randai therapy as a non-pharmacological therapy to reduce post-disaster children's psychological trauma. In addition, it enriches the culture-based approach to safe, affordable, and sustainable psychological recovery.

Abstract

The elderly face complex and interrelated health challenges, including anxiety, sleep disturbances, and decreased quality of life, which can affect their physical and psychological well-being. In nursing, screening using valid and reliable questionnaires can help nurses identify mental health problems early, prevent complications, and provide appropriate interventions. Therefore, assessment scales such as the Elderly Anxiety Questionnaire (EAQ), Elderly Sleep Quality Questionnaire (ESQQ), and Elderly Quality of Life Questionnaire (EQLQ) were developed to assess anxiety, sleep quality, and quality of life in the elderly according to current conditions and needs. This study aims to develop and validate the EAQ, ESQQ, and EQLQ as initial screening tools for clinical and community practice nurses. The method used a qualitative approach; questionnaires were distributed to 60 elderly participants selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, followed by statistical validity and reliability tests. The results showed that the r-count value for the three questionnaires was more significant than the r-table (0.254), indicating good item validity. The reliability test using Cronbach's alpha also showed that the three questionnaires had high reliability. In conclusion, EAQ, ESQQ, and EQLQ are practical tools for detecting the mental condition of the elderly and supporting the role of nurses in providing comprehensive care. This study contributes significantly to nursing practice by providing tools for initial screening, data collection, and analysis to improve the quality of care for the elderly. Further research with a larger sample size is recommended to strengthen these findings.

Abstract

Hypertension management generally involves the use of pharmacological drugs. However, pharmacological effects are unavoidable and have the potential to disrupt the quality of life. Therefore, efforts to find alternative non-pharmacological therapies are very important. One of the non-pharmacological techniques that has potential is the deep breathing relaxation technique. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of deep breathing techniques in an effort to reduce blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. This research uesd a quasi-experimental research design. The sample in this study was 68 participants divided into 34 participants in the experimental group and 34 participants in the control group. The results showed a significant effect between the pretest variable and the posttest systolic value in the intervention group and between the pretest variable and the posttest diastolic value in the intervention group. Although deep breathing relaxation techniques cannot replace pharmacological treatment completely, they can be beneficial additional therapy in managing hypertension holistically. Proper education about deep breathing relaxation techniques needs to be given to hypertension sufferers in order to get maximum benefits. In addition, this article contributes to public education efforts to increase awareness of deep breathing relaxation techniques as a preventive measure against hypertension. Future research is recommended to combine deep breathing relaxation techniques with other techniques or to use them alongside pharmacological treatment.

Abstract

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) presents both a biological challenge and a substantial psychological burden, particularly anxiety, which often disrupts treatment adherence and diminishes patients' quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Virtual Reality (VR) therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention for reducing anxiety levels among DR-TB patients. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach was employed. A total of 384 participants were recruited from Indonesia and Philippines. Anxiety levels were assessed using the validated Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests to assess within-group changes, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted to control for potential confounding variables and determine between-group differences. The results revealed a statistically significant reduction in anxiety scores in the VR group compared to the control group (p < 0.001), with participants reporting improved emotional regulation and reduced psychological distress. These findings suggested that VR therapy was an effective non-pharmacological strategy for managing anxiety in DR-TB patients. The study contributed to the digital mental health literature by offering culturally relevant evidence on the application of immersive therapy in two high-burden TB countries. Integrating VR therapy into TB care protocols may enhance holistic patient management, particularly in resource-constrained healthcare systems.

Abstract

The rapid adoption of telemedicine is transforming global healthcare systems by enhancing access and improving service efficiency, particularly in regions with limited healthcare infrastructure. However, the success of telemedicine depends not only on technology but also on how patients perceive and experience these services. This study aims to investigate the role of telemedicine in advancing digital transformation by analyzing patient perceptions of its impact on healthcare accessibility and service efficiency. A quantitative research method was applied using a structured questionnaire distributed to 150 patients who had used telemedicine services. Participants were selected from two developing countries, Libya and Indonesia, to provide cross-national perspectives. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling to evaluate the relationships among perceived accessibility, efficiency, and the contribution of telemedicine to digital transformation. The results show that patient perceptions play a significant role in determining the effectiveness of telemedicine in improving access and efficiency. Patients generally view telemedicine as a vital component of digital healthcare transformation, although variations exist due to differences in digital literacy and healthcare infrastructure. This study concludes that telemedicine can significantly support digital transformation if patient-centered design and localized implementation strategies are prioritized. The main contribution of this research is the empirical evidence highlighting the importance of patient perception in digital health adoption and offering insights for policymakers, healthcare providers, and technology developers to enhance telemedicine integration in diverse healthcare systems.

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (NVP) are often perceived as normal conditions, yet they can significantly affect a pregnant woman’s quality of life. With limited use of pharmacological treatments due to concerns for fetal safety, digital innovation has opened new opportunities for non-invasive maternal care. One emerging approach is digital aromatherapy, which combines the convenience of technology with the benefits of natural therapy to help alleviate common pregnancy-related discomforts. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a lemon-scented digital aromatherapy intervention in reducing symptoms of NVP. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used, involving 100 pregnant women from Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia. Participants used a mobile-controlled digital diffuser with lemon essential oil for 20 minutes, twice daily, over a period of seven days. The severity of nausea and vomiting was measured using the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis and Nausea (PUQE) scale before and after the intervention. The results showed a statistically significant reduction in PUQE scores post-intervention (p < 0.001), indicating a notable decrease in symptom severity. No adverse effects were reported throughout the intervention period. These findings indicate that lemon-based digital aromatherapy is a safe, effective, and accessible complementary approach for managing NVP. This study contributes to the advancement of digital maternal health by introducing a culturally adaptable, user-friendly, and scalable non-pharmacological solution for pregnancy-related symptoms.
