Abstract

Low interest in History Education cannot be adequately explained as students' dislike of the past. Degree choice emerges from the intersection of personal interest, perceived competence, career expectations, family influence, access to higher education information, and prior classroom experience. This study explores the internal and external factors shaping students' interest in choosing a History Education program, examines their perceptions of the program and its graduates' career prospects, and analyses how school history learning contributes to those preferences. An exploratory-descriptive qualitative case study was conducted at MA Mu'allimat NWDI Pancor. Data were generated through three days of participant observation, an open-ended questionnaire distributed to 59 eleventh-grade social science students, of whom 40 provided complete responses, semi-structured interviews with three students representing different levels of interest, an informal conversation with a history teacher, and documentary materials. Data were analysed interactively through collection, condensation, display, conclusion drawing, and verification. The findings reveal four interconnected mechanisms: alignment among personal interest, perceived ability, and future aspirations; assessment of utility and economic risk; family mediation and program image; and learning experiences dominated by teacher-centred explanation and memorisation. Students recognised the moral and civic value of history but did not necessarily enjoy learning it. Limited information also narrowed their understanding of graduate careers to teaching, lecturing, and research. A shift in interest following an information session suggests that preferences were not fully fixed; however, it should not be interpreted causally because the session was embedded in the research process. The study calls for coordinated interventions involving contextual and inquiry-oriented history teaching, systematic career guidance, and evidence-based program communication.

Abstract

Chronological thinking skills enable students to organize sequences, periodization, and temporal relationships in historical events. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of Canva-based infographics in developing students' chronological thinking skills in history learning. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 46 Grade 10 students at MA NW Kotaraja, comprising 22 students in the experimental group and 24 in the control group. The experimental group learned through Canva-based infographics, whereas the control group received regular instruction. Data were collected using a test that assessed students' ability to compare periodizations, construct temporal structures in narratives, and interpret timelines. The data were analyzed descriptively using normalized gain (N-gain) and inferentially using an independent-samples t-test. The experimental group's mean score increased from 37.86 to 67.23, with an N-gain of 0.47, whereas the control group's mean score increased from 45.54 to 48.42, with an N-gain of 0.03. The difference in N-gain between the groups was significant, t(44) = 7.062, p < .001, with a mean difference of 44.14 percentage points. These findings indicate that the use of Canva-based infographics was associated with a greater improvement in chronological thinking skills than regular instruction. Pedagogically, infographics can externalize temporal structures and help students organize historical information; however, their effectiveness depends on content accuracy, visual coherence, and the processing activities that accompany their use.

Abstract

The presence of niqab-wearing female students in higher education settings reflects diverse social dynamics, particularly in terms of academic community perceptions and the social interactions that develop around them. This study aims to analyze academic community perceptions of niqab-wearing female students, the factors influencing the adoption of the niqab, and the construction of religious identity within the academic environment of UIN Palopo. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research participants were purposively selected from members of the academic community, including students, niqab-wearing female students, and university representatives. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon under investigation. The findings indicate that academic community perceptions of niqab-wearing female students tend to be positive and inclusive, although some negative perceptions remain, particularly concerning limitations in social interaction. The adoption of the niqab is influenced by internal factors, such as religious motivations and the desire for self-preservation, as well as external factors, including the social environment and educational background. Furthermore, wearing the niqab represents a religious identity constructed through a process of social construction involving the externalization, objectivation, and internalization of religious values.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education (ECE) services in Indonesia do not always develop through formal mechanisms fully provided by the state. In rural communities, educational institutions are often established independently through the utilization of locally embedded social resources. This study aims to analyze how social capital mobilization contributes to the formation of community-based ECE institutions in rural areas. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. The study was conducted at PAUD Anggrek 11 in Margahayu Selatan Village, Bandung Regency. The analysis applies Nan Lin’s social capital perspective, focusing on three dimensions: embedded resources, accessibility, and mobilization. The findings show that the establishment of PAUD began from social resources embedded in Posyandu and PKK networks, consisting of trust, reciprocal relations, and routine social interaction. PKK cadres played a strategic role in accessing these resources by identifying collective educational needs and building social legitimacy. These resources were then mobilized into collective action through community participation, voluntary involvement, and coordination, resulting in the institutionalization of PAUD as a community-based educational institution. The study shows that educational institutions in rural communities can emerge through the collective mobilization of locally embedded social capital beyond formal state intervention.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media and the creator economy has positioned influencer marketing as an increasingly important phenomenon in contemporary digital society. However, the rapid expansion of research in this field has resulted in a fragmented body of knowledge, making it necessary to identify its intellectual structure and emerging research frontiers. This study aims to map the intellectual structure, thematic relationships, and temporal development of research on influencer marketing. A bibliometric analysis and science mapping approach was employed using publications indexed in Scopus from 2000 to 2026, with VOSviewer used to analyze keyword co-occurrence, thematic clusters, density, and temporal trends. The findings indicate that influencer marketing, social media, influencers, purchase intention, engagement, consumption behavior, and commerce constitute the central themes shaping the intellectual structure of the field. The analysis further reveals a thematic shift from conventional consumer-oriented research toward emerging issues involving virtual influencers, artificial intelligence, generative AI, creator economy, social commerce, green marketing, sustainable consumption, transparency, privacy, and kidfluencers. The temporal mapping suggests that influencer marketing is increasingly evolving from a promotional strategy into a broader digitally mediated social influence phenomenon involving interactions among influencers, consumers, brands, platforms, algorithms, and emerging technologies. From a social sciences perspective, these findings highlight the need to examine influencer marketing through broader theoretical lenses, including social influence, parasocial relationships, digital identity, platform society, digital labor, human–AI interaction, social norms, and digital governance. This study contributes by providing a comprehensive map of the evolution of influencer marketing and identifying future research directions at the intersection of marketing, technology, and digital social transformation.

Abstract

The culture of scientific writing among university students remains weak, not merely a lack of information but psychological barriers such as fear of mistakes, low confidence, and the perception that scientific writing is complicated. This article describes the role of E-PENA (E-Leaflet for Article Writing), an Instagram-carousel-based digital educational medium, in fostering a culture of scientific writing among students of the Sociology Education Study Program, Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences, Universitas Negeri Makassar (FIS-H UNM). The study employed a descriptive qualitative case-study approach conducted in April-May 2026. Data were collected through observation, content review, and expert validation, then analyzed to identify writing barriers and E-PENA's responsive strategies. The findings show six main barriers, from confusion about how to start to the misconception that articles equal ordinary papers. E-PENA addresses these barriers by normalizing beginners' mistakes, breaking the writing process into small, concrete steps, providing readiness checklists, and delivering motivational messages published periodically via the program's Instagram account. This shifted students from having no clear starting point to a practical step-by-step guide. This article concludes that fostering a writing culture requires an approach that is informative, motivational, and sustained, through a follow-up content series and integration into new-student academic orientation

Abstract

This study examines the livelihood shifts of the community in salemba village, ujung loe district, bulukumba regency, triggered by mangrove forest degradation resulting from logging carried out by the local government for river widening and dredging. The logging led to damaged pond embankments, declining fishery production, and livelihood shifts from fish farming to other sectors. This study employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman's interactive model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that: mangrove logging degraded the pond ecosystem and reduced shrimp and fish production;  mangrove degradation caused social degradation marked by the weakening of mutual cooperation norms and community consensus in maintaining environmental sustainability; the economic impact of income decline pushed communities to shift to fishing, agriculture, and seaweed cultivation sectors; and the absence of reforestacion programs worsened abrasion threats to rivebank settlements.  This study uses Ulrich Beck’s Risk Society Theory and Rational Choice Theory as analytical frameworks.

Abstract

Digital transformation in higher education requires lecturers to adopt interactive learning platforms to support participatory teaching and learning. However, technology adoption remains uneven, particularly within the Sociology Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). This study explores lecturers' digital literacy patterns in utilizing interactive learning platforms and identifies the factors driving adoption and resistance toward such technology. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, using in-depth interviews and observations involving lecturers from the Sociology Education Study Program at UNM as informants. Data were analyzed through data reduction, thematic categorization, and interpretation grounded in digital literacy frameworks and technology adoption theories. The findings reveal that only around 36,4% of lecturers demonstrated adequate understanding and actively implemented commonly used interactive learning platforms, while around 63,6% continued to rely on conventional teaching methods. Lecturers who had adopted technology tended to remain confined to a single popular platform, with limited exploration of alternatives better suited to their teaching needs. The resistance found was influenced by limited training, comfort with conventional methods, academic workload, and concern over technical failure in front of students. The study concludes that the digital literacy gap among lecturers is multidimensional, encompassing technical, psychological, and structural aspects. This study recommends sustained, contextualized technology mentoring programs for lecturers in higher education.

Abstract

The historical evolution of public administration reflects a fundamental transformation from traditional bureaucratic structures toward increasingly participatory, digital, and technology-driven governance systems. This transition, encompassing traditional public administration, New Public Management, e-government, digital governance, and contemporary smart governance, has reshaped the relationship between government institutions, administrative processes, and citizens. Despite the growing implementation of smart governance, empirical evidence regarding its simultaneous contribution to citizen engagement and administrative efficiency remains fragmented, particularly when positioned within the historical transformation of public administration. This study aims to examine the evolution of public administration toward smart governance and quantitatively assess the impact of smart governance implementation on citizen engagement and administrative efficiency. A quantitative explanatory research design was employed using a cross-sectional survey involving citizens who had experience accessing digital public services. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire measuring smart governance implementation, citizen engagement, and administrative efficiency and were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that smart governance implementation has a positive and significant effect on citizen engagement by strengthening access to information, digital participation, government–citizen interaction, responsiveness, and opportunities for involvement in public decision-making. Smart governance also significantly improves administrative efficiency through streamlined procedures, faster service delivery, enhanced information integration, reduced administrative complexity, and more effective utilization of public resources.

Abstract

Digital transformation in the public sector has prompted governments to implement e-government as a strategy to enhance the quality of public services, making them more effective, efficient, transparent, and responsive to public needs. Despite the development of various digital service innovations, public satisfaction levels regarding e-government services vary, influenced by factors such as system quality, information quality, service quality, ease of use, and the responsiveness of government personnel. This study aims to analyze the impact of e-government-based public service quality on public satisfaction. A quantitative approach with an explanatory research design was employed. Data were collected via questionnaires distributed to 250 respondents - users of e-government public services across several local government agencies - using proportionate random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess construct validity and reliability, as well as causal relationships between variables. The results indicate that e-government-based public service quality has a positive and significant effect on public satisfaction (0.742; p < 0.001). Service quality dimensions - comprising ease of access, system reliability, service speed, information security, transparency, and personnel responsiveness - were found to contribute significantly to increased public satisfaction. These findings suggest that optimizing e-government implementation not only improves administrative efficiency but also strengthens public trust in public institutions through the provision of high-quality services.
