Abstract

Transformational leadership has become increasingly important in contemporary organizations as rapid technological change, competitive pressures, and evolving employee expectations require leaders to foster motivation, adaptability, and sustainable performance. Despite extensive research on leadership effectiveness, the extent to which transformational leadership simultaneously contributes to employee performance and job satisfaction remains an important area of organizational and human resource management research. This study aims to examine the impact of transformational leadership on employee performance and job satisfaction and to explain how transformational leadership behaviors contribute to positive employee outcomes. The study employs a quantitative explanatory research design using a survey approach. Data are collected from employees through a structured questionnaire measuring transformational leadership, employee performance, and job satisfaction. Transformational leadership is assessed through the dimensions of idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. The collected data are analyzed using descriptive statistics, reliability and validity testing, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling to examine the hypothesized relationships among the constructs. The findings indicate that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on employee performance, suggesting that leaders who articulate an inspiring vision, encourage innovative thinking, provide individualized support, and demonstrate exemplary behavior can enhance employees’ effectiveness and work contributions. Transformational leadership also has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction by strengthening employees’ motivation, recognition, psychological involvement, and positive perceptions of the work environment. Overall, the findings demonstrate that transformational leadership constitutes an important organizational resource for simultaneously improving employee performance and job satisfaction. The study provides theoretical implications for transformational leadership and organizational behavior literature and practical implications for organizations seeking to develop leadership practices that promote productive, satisfied, and highly engaged employees.

Abstract

The phenomenon of street children in large Indonesian cities is commonly understood as a poverty problem identical with begging and vagrancy, although some of them have diversified their economic activities through micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to describe the reasons street children persist in working on the street and to analyse the empowerment efforts that can be undertaken for them through MSMEs. The study applies a qualitative approach using a grounded theory strategy. The research sites are the intersections of Veteran Street, Bandang Street, and Masjid Raya Street in Makassar City. Six informants were determined through purposive sampling, namely street children who have run MSMEs for at least three years and previously worked as beggars. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, focus group interviews, and documentation, and were analysed through data reduction, categorisation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal two main results. First, the informants remain on the street because they have been accustomed since childhood to accompanying their parents selling at intersections, perceive the street as a familiar play space, and earn income that supports family needs and school expenses, allowing them to continue schooling like their peers. Second, their activities are sustained by social capital in the form of relationships and appropriate conduct towards buyers, and cultural capital in the form of internalised community norms and trading skills, both of which are converted into economic capital. The study concludes that empowering street children should focus on strengthening these three forms of capital in an integrated manner by involving families, the social environment, and policy makers, rather than on public order enforcement alone.

Abstract

Four teams of Visual Communication Design students developed visual identities and packaging for four MSMEs in Ciwaruga Village and the surrounding West Bandung area: ACS, a succulent plant business operating since 2000; Citruk Mawar, a producer of “citruk” snacks (a West Javanese specialty); KUWU bottled drinking water; and Kasemaran, a producer of “jengkol”-flavored cassava chips. Each team followed Alina Wheeler’s five-step branding process, ranging from research and strategy to identity design, touchpoint development, and final asset management. Employing a qualitative multiple-case study approach, this research compares tangible changes in the students' design work rather than merely assessing competency. Comparative "before-and-after" artifacts reveal a clear shift from simple labels and decorative graphics toward more structured brand systems. The most striking changes are evident in information hierarchy, brand distinction, and consistency in the use of color and typography. As the clients were actual MSME owners, students were required to revise their work by considering product characteristics, owner preferences, readability, and production constraints. Thus, the project-based learning method placed students in design situations closely resembling professional practice, while Wheeler’s framework provided a clear workflow for the studio process regarding research, revision, and design implementation.

Abstract

Environmentally friendly products are an important component of sustainable consumption because they are designed to reduce environmental impacts through safer, more efficient, recyclable, or reusable materials and processes. In sustainable marketing, consumer green awareness is important because it shapes how consumers recognize environmental issues, understand green-product characteristics, evaluate prices, and perceive brand image. This study aims to map consumer green awareness of environmentally friendly products in Bali Province through four indicators: Consumers’ Environmental Concern, Green Product Awareness, Price Awareness, and Brand Image Awareness. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a Likert-scale survey of 120 respondents in Bali. Data were analyzed descriptively through respondent characteristics and the mean score of each indicator. Consumers’ Environmental Concern recorded the highest mean score at 4.30, followed by Green Product Awareness at 4.26, Brand Image Awareness at 3.95, and Price Awareness at 3.92. The findings indicate that concern for environmental issues and recognition of green-product characteristics are more prominent than the price and brand-image dimensions. The study provides an initial multidimensional profile of consumer green awareness in the Balinese context and highlights the importance of credible environmental and green marketing communication. Because the analysis is descriptive and respondents are geographically concentrated in Denpasar, the findings should be interpreted as a profile of the participating respondents rather than a statistical representation of the entire population of Bali.

Abstract

Domestic role division is an important arena in the formation and reproduction of gender relations within the family. Increased access to education for men and women is not always followed by an equal distribution of domestic responsibilities. This study aims to analyze the effect of differences in husbands’ and wives’ educational levels on domestic role division in Makassar City. The study employed a quantitative approach with a survey design involving 100 married couples or 200 individuals. Differences in educational levels were measured based on the gap between husbands’ and wives’ educational attainment, while domestic role division was measured using 20 Likert-scale items. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, validity testing, reliability testing, Pearson correlation, and simple linear regression. The results showed that couples with the same educational level had the highest average domestic role-division score of 3.91, while the score decreased as the educational gap increased. The correlation analysis indicated a negative relationship (r = -0.504). Regression analysis showed a significant negative effect (B = -0.218; t = -5.778; p < 0.001; R² = 0.254). These findings indicate that the greater the educational gap between husbands and wives, the lower the level of equality in domestic role division.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between digital literacy, critical civic awareness, and civic engagement among Generation Z students in Makassar City. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SMAN 10 Makassar, SMK TELKOM Makassar, and MAN 2 Makassar. Informants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of students who actively use social media and teachers of Pancasila Education/Civic Education as supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, and were analyzed using interactive and thematic analysis, with data validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that students possess the ability to access digital media, but their abilities to evaluate and verify information vary. Critical digital literacy helps students understand public issues, consider diverse perspectives, and develop responsible attitudes. Critical civic awareness encourages engagement through digital activities, organizations, social activities, and community involvement. However, students' civic engagement faces challenges, including social media trends, concerns about negative judgments, limited confidence in expressing opinions, and insufficient understanding of public issues. These findings highlight the importance of integrating critical digital literacy, civic awareness, dialogical skills, and meaningful participation experiences to develop critical, ethical, and responsible young citizens

Abstract

The rapid transformation of digital technologies has fundamentally reshaped public governance by creating new opportunities for governments to enhance policy effectiveness, citizen participation, and public service quality. Nevertheless, the implementation of digital governance does not automatically produce effective public policies, particularly when technological innovation is not accompanied by meaningful citizen engagement. This study aims to explore how digital governance contributes to public policy effectiveness and to examine the mediating role of citizen engagement in improving public service quality. Employing a qualitative research design with a case-study approach, data are collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and document analysis involving government officials, public service providers, policy stakeholders, and citizens who use digital public services. Participants are selected purposively based on their knowledge and experience of digital governance and public service delivery. Data are analyzed thematically through systematic processes of data coding, categorization, theme development, interpretation, and triangulation. This study concludes that digital governance constitutes not merely a technological modernization of public administration but a fundamental transformation of institutional processes, government–citizen relationships, and mechanisms of public value creation. The findings demonstrate that the digitalization of administrative processes, integration of government information systems, data-driven decision-making, and expansion of digital public services contribute to greater accessibility, transparency, responsiveness, and efficiency in public governance. More importantly, digital platforms create new spaces for e-participation, online consultation, digital complaints, crowdsourcing, co-creation, and continuous citizen feedback, thereby transforming citizens from passive recipients of services into active participants in governance.
