Abstract

The learning outcomes of basic courses contribute to the mastery of other courses. This study aims to analyze the adjustment of new students to academic and social transitions by reviewing the learning outcomes of the basic courses in General Chemistry and Biochemistry. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach with a sample of 40 students from the Biology Education (Tadris Biologi) study program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Sciences. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire covering indicators of academic and social adjustment, as well as tests on the learning outcomes of basic courses. Data were analyzed to examine the relationship between the level of student adjustment and learning outcomes in the courses under review. The research results indicate that there is no significant relationship between students' adjustment to academic and social demands and their learning outcomes. This indicates that other factors play a role in affecting the learning outcomes of new students. Therefore, further and more in-depth research is needed to identify the contributing factors to learning outcomes so that comprehensive strategies for assisting new students can be designed. Abstrak. Hasil belajar mata kuliah dasar berkontribusi pada penguasaan mata kuliah lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penyesuaian diri mahasiswa baru terhadap transisi akademik dan sosial dengan tinjauan pada hasil belajar mata kuliah dasar kimia dasar dan biokimia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dengan sampel penelitian sebanyak 40 mahasiswa program studi Tadris Biologi, Fakultas Ilmu Tarbiyah. Teknik pengambilan sampel penelitian dilakukan menggunakan purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian meliputi angket yang memuat indikator penyesuaian diri aspek akademik & sosial serta tes hasil belajar mata kuliah dasar. Data dianalisis untuk melihat hubungan antara tingkat penyesuaian diri mahasiswa dengan hasil belajar pada mata kuliah yang ditinjau. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat persentase penyesuaian diri mahasiswa terhadap tuntutan akademik dan sosial belum tampak signifikan memengaruhi hasil belajar. Temuan ini mengindikasikan ada faktor lain yang berperan dalam memengaruhi hasil belajar mahasiswa baru. Dengan demikian diperlukan penelitian lebih lanjut dan mendalam untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang memiliki kontribusi terhadap hasil belajar agar strategi pendampingan mahasiswa baru dapat dirancang secara komprehensif.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Think Pair Share (TPS) cooperative learning model assisted by scrapbook media and student worksheets (LKPD) in the form of crossword puzzles on the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Lewa Tidahu. This research employed an experimental method using a nonequivalent control group design. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, consisting of class VIII A with 24 students as the control group using the Discovery Learning model, and class VIII B with 24 students as the experimental group receiving the TPS model assisted by scrapbook and LKPD. The study was conducted in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected using a posttest consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions. Data analysis included validity, reliability, normality, homogeneity tests, and an independent sample t-test using SPSS version 22. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a higher average posttest score (83.75) compared to the control group (62.91). The hypothesis test produced an Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating that the TPS model significantly and positively influenced students’ learning outcomes. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Think Pair Share (TPS) berbantuan media scrapbook dan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) berupa teka-teki silang terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 1 Lewa Tidahu. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan desain nonequivalent control group design. Sampel ditentukan melalui purposive sampling, yaitu kelas VIII A sebanyak 24 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol yang menggunakan model Discovery Learning, dan kelas VIII B sebanyak 24 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen yang mendapatkan perlakuan model TPS berbantuan scrapbook dan LKPD. Penelitian dilakukan pada semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2025/2026. Instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes hasil belajar (posttest) dengan 10 soal pilihan ganda. Analisis data mencakup uji validitas, reliabilitas, normalitas, homogenitas, dan independent sample t-test menggunakan SPSS versi 22. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai posttest kelas eksperimen sebesar 83,75, lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol sebesar 62,91. Uji hipotesis menghasilkan nilai Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) 0,001 < 0,05 sehingga H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima. Dengan demikian, model TPS berbantuan scrapbook dan LKPD teka-teki silang berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII.

Abstract

The development of contextual, engaging, and technologically advanced learning media is essential to support the learning process. One innovation that can be implemented is the development of an e-magazine based on the ethnobotany of medicinal plants for hypertension. It is believed that an e-magazine featuring local potential expands students' understanding of biodiversity in their surroundings. An e-magazine is a digital learning medium packaged in an attractive, interactive, and easily accessible electronic magazine format via technological devices. The e-magazine medium enables students to learn independently at their own pace and according to their individual abilities. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of an e-magazine on the biodiversity of Indonesia for 10th-grade high school students, focusing on the local potential of Karangan Village, Landak Regency, and featuring ethnobotanical knowledge about the use of medicinal plants for hypertension. The method used was quantitative descriptive with several stages, namely the compilation of the e-magazine, validation of the e-magazine, and analysis of the validation results. The validation process was conducted by five experts, comprising biology teachers and biology education lecturers, evaluating language, content, and graphic aspects using a validation form. The research results showed that the e-magazine achieved a Content Validity Ratio (CVR) of 1 and a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 1, indicating that the e-magazine is valid and suitable for use as an alternative learning medium for biology in 10th-grade high school.

Abstract

Students’ critical thinking skills on the digestive system topic remain low, indicating the need for learning experiences that utilize authentic data. This study examined the effectiveness of integrating the MyFitnessPal application into a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to improve senior high school students’ critical thinking skills. Using a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design with 35 participants, data were collected through a critical thinking test based on Facione’s indicators and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Effect size, and N-Gain. The findings show a significant improvement in critical thinking (p = 0.000) with a large Effect size (r = 0.76). The N-Gain score of 0.43 indicates a moderate improvement following the MyFitnessPal-integrated PBL intervention. These results highlight that incorporating nutrition-tracking applications as authentic data sources within PBL can enhance data literacy and support the development of critical thinking in biology learning. Abstrak. Kemampuan berpikir kritis pada materi Sistem Pencernaan masih rendah, sehingga diperlukan pembelajaran yang memberikan pengalaman autentik dan berorientasi data. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas integrasi aplikasi MyFitnessPal dalam model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMA. Penelitian menggunakan desain One Group Pretest–Posttest dengan sampel 35 siswa. Instrumen berupa tes berpikir kritis berdasarkan indikator Facione, dianalisis menggunakan uji Shapiro–Wilk, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Effect size, dan N-Gain. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa penggunaan aplikasi pelacakan gizi sebagai sumber data autentik dalam PBL dapat memperkuat literasi data dan mendukung berkembangnya kemampuan berpikir kritis pada pembelajaran Biologi.

Abstract

Integrating critical thinking in biology education is increasingly urgent to strengthen environmental awareness and support climate action aligned with SDG 13. This study investigates research trends on the relationship between critical thinking skills and environmental awareness within biology education in the context of climate change action. A bibliometric and literature review approach was applied to journal articles indexed in Scopus and Google Scholar. Data were collected using Publish or Perish 8 and analyzed through five phases: data collection, keyword identification, relationship-matrix construction, visualization, and interpretation. Bibliometric mapping was performed using VOSviewer. Publications from 2020–2025 show dominant themes including critical thinking, problem solving, climate change, climate action, sustainability, and education for sustainable development (ESD). The mapping indicates biology education as a major domain connecting critical thinking, environmental awareness, and climate action research related to SDG 13. The findings provide an overview of recent research directions and identify key thematic clusters that can inform future development of biology learning models to support climate action through strengthened critical thinking and environmental awareness. Abstrak. Integrasi kemampuan berpikir kritis dalam pembelajaran biologi semakin mendesak untuk memperkuat kesadaran lingkungan dan mendukung aksi iklim sesuai SDGs 13. Penelitian ini menelaah tren riset mengenai keterkaitan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan kesadaran lingkungan dalam konteks pendidikan biologi yang berorientasi pada aksi perubahan iklim. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan tinjauan literatur dan analisis bibliometrik terhadap artikel jurnal terindeks Scopus dan Google Scholar. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan Publish or Perish 8, kemudian dianalisis melalui lima tahap yakni pengumpulan data, identifikasi kata kunci, penyusunan matriks keterkaitan, visualisasi, serta interpretasi. Pemetaan bibliometrik dilakukan menggunakan VOSviewer. Publikasi periode 2020–2025 didominasi tema berpikir kritis, pemecahan masalah, perubahan iklim, aksi iklim, keberlanjutan, dan education for sustainable development (ESD). Pemetaan menunjukkan pendidikan biologi sebagai domain utama yang menghubungkan riset berpikir kritis, kesadaran lingkungan, dan aksi iklim terkait SDGs 13. Temuan memberikan gambaran arah riset terkini dan klaster tema utama yang dapat menjadi dasar pengembangan model pembelajaran biologi untuk mendukung aksi iklim melalui penguatan berpikir kritis dan kesadaran lingkungan.

Abstract

The use of digital learning media has become one of the strategies to improve the effectiveness of the learning process in higher education. One of the widely used media is PowerPoint, which is capable of presenting information visually and systematically. This study aimed to analyze the effect of PowerPoint media on students’ learning outcomes based on visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in the Animal Development course. This research employed a quantitative approach using simple linear regression analysis. The research sample consisted of 25 students from the Biology Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Medan who took the Animal Development course in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through documentation of students’ learning outcomes and a learning style questionnaire adapted from the VARK Questionnaire. The results showed that 40% of students had an auditory learning style, 32% visual, and 28% kinesthetic. The regression analysis indicated that the use of PowerPoint media had no significant effect on students’ learning outcomes across the three learning styles (p > 0.05). Nevertheless, students with a visual learning style showed a slightly higher contribution compared to the other learning styles, although it remained in a low category. These findings suggest that learning effectiveness is not solely influenced by the compatibility between media and learning styles, but also by the quality of instructional design and the application of multimedia learning principles in the teaching process. Abstrak. Penggunaan media pembelajaran digital menjadi salah satu strategi untuk meningkatkan efektivitas proses pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi. Salah satu media yang banyak digunakan adalah PowerPoint yang mampu menyajikan informasi secara visual dan sistematis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh penggunaan media PowerPoint terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa berdasarkan gaya belajar visual, auditorial, dan kinestetik pada Mata Kuliah Perkembangan Hewan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan analisis regresi linear sederhana. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 25 mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi Universitas Negeri Medan yang mengambil Mata Kuliah Perkembangan Hewan pada tahun ajaran 2025/2026, yang dipilih menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumentasi nilai hasil belajar mahasiswa serta angket gaya belajar yang diadaptasi dari VARK Questionnaire. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 40% mahasiswa memiliki gaya belajar auditorial, 32% visual, dan 28% kinestetik. Analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media PowerPoint tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa pada ketiga tipe gaya belajar (p > 0,05). Meskipun demikian, mahasiswa dengan gaya belajar visual menunjukkan kontribusi pengaruh yang sedikit lebih tinggi dibandingkan gaya belajar lainnya, meskipun masih dalam kategori rendah. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas pembelajaran tidak hanya dipengaruhi oleh kesesuaian media dengan gaya belajar, tetapi juga oleh kualitas desain instruksional dan penerapan prinsip multimedia dalam proses pembelajaran.

Abstract

Science education in Indonesia still faces challenges in developing students’ application skills, as shown by PISA 2022 where only 22% of Indonesian students reached the applicative level, below the OECD average of 49%. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of integrating Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Experiential Learning (EL) in improving students’ application skills in the excretory system topic. A quasi-experimental One Group Pretest–Posttest design was applied to eighth-grade students at a junior high school in West Java during the 2025/2026 academic year. Research instruments included application skill tests, observation sheets to assess fidelity of implementation, and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed using N-Gain scores and descriptive statistics. The results indicated a significant improvement in application skills with an average N-Gain score in the medium category. Observation results showed high fidelity of implementation, while student responses revealed positive perceptions of the integrated model, emphasizing its contextual and relevant nature. Abstrak. Pendidikan sains di Indonesia masih menghadapi tantangan dalam mengembangkan keterampilan aplikatif siswa, sebagaimana ditunjukkan oleh hasil PISA 2022 yang menempatkan hanya 22% siswa Indonesia pada level aplikatif, di bawah rata-rata OECD sebesar 49%. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji efektivitas integrasi Problem Based Learning (PBL) dan Experiential Learning (EL) dalam meningkatkan keterampilan aplikatif siswa pada materi sistem ekskresi. Metode penelitian menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimen One Group Pretest–Posttest dengan melibatkan siswa kelas VIII di salah satu sekolah menengah pertama di Jawa Barat tahun ajaran 2025/2026. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes keterampilan aplikatif, lembar observasi fidelitas implementasi, dan angket respon siswa. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan skor N-Gain dan statistik deskriptif. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan keterampilan aplikatif dengan rata-rata skor N-Gain kategori sedang. Observasi mengindikasikan fidelitas implementasi tinggi, sedangkan respon siswa menunjukkan persepsi positif terhadap model yang dinilai kontekstual dan relevan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

Formative assessment plays a crucial role in supporting process-oriented science learning, particularly in measuring and developing students' scientific work. However, assessment practices in schools still tend to focus on outcomes and minimize rapid and meaningful feedback. Therefore, the development of technology-based formative assessment is an urgent need. This study aims to develop a Socrative-based formative assessment and assess the effectiveness of its feedback in measuring students' scientific work. The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. A limited trial was conducted on high school students, collecting data in the form of a scientific work test based on science process skills and a student perception questionnaire. Data analysis was descriptive. The results showed that most students were in the medium to high scientific work category and had positive perceptions of the use of Socrative-based formative assessment. The real-time feedback was perceived as helping students understand learning outcomes and reflect on them. These findings suggest that Socrative-based formative assessment has the potential to be an alternative assessment that supports more responsive and meaningful biology learning. Abstrak. Asesmen formatif berperan penting dalam mendukung pembelajaran sains yang berorientasi pada proses, khususnya dalam mengukur dan mengembangkan kerja ilmiah siswa. Namun, praktik asesmen di sekolah masih cenderung berfokus pada hasil akhir dan minim umpan balik yang cepat serta bermakna. Oleh karena itu, pengembangan asesmen formatif berbasis teknologi menjadi kebutuhan yang mendesak. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan asesmen formatif berbasis Socrative serta mengkaji efektivitas umpan baliknya dalam mengukur kerja ilmiah siswa. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) dengan model ADDIE yang meliputi tahap analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Uji coba terbatas dilakukan pada siswa SMA dengan pengumpulan data berupa tes kerja ilmiah berbasis keterampilan proses sains dan angket persepsi siswa. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa berada pada kategori kerja ilmiah sedang hingga tinggi, serta memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan asesmen formatif berbasis Socrative. Umpan balik yang diberikan secara real-time dipersepsikan membantu siswa memahami hasil belajar dan melakukan refleksi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa asesmen formatif berbasis Socrative berpotensi menjadi alternatif asesmen yang mendukung pembelajaran biologi secara lebih responsif dan bermakna.

Abstract

This meta-analysis aims to systematically synthesize and quantitatively measure the effect size of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on improving students' environmental literacy across various educational levels in Indonesia. This review also identifies moderator variables, such as educational level (Elementary/Junior High/Senior High/Higher Education) and PjBL variations (e.g., STEM/STEAM integration), that influence the model's effectiveness. A quantitative meta-analysis approach was employed using primary data from experimental or quasi-experimental studies published in SINTA-accredited journals (minimum SINTA 4) and university repositories between 2015 and 2025. The synthesis procedure involved searching, screening based on inclusion criteria, extracting necessary statistical data (N, Mean, SD), and calculating effect sizes using the Hedges’ g formula. Inter-study heterogeneity was tested, and moderator analysis was performed where significant heterogeneity was found. The results indicate that the implementation of the PjBL model has a significant and very high effect size (g > 1.30) on enhancing students' environmental literacy. Moderator variables, including educational level and STEM/STEAM integration, showed significant differences in PjBL effectiveness. Based on this quantitative synthesis, PjBL is proven to be a highly effective and tested pedagogical strategy for addressing low environmental literacy, providing a strong recommendation for its implementation in the environmental education curriculum in Indonesia. Abstrak. Penelitian metaanalisis ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis secara sistematis dan mengukur secara kuantitatif besaran pengaruh (efek ukuran) model Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek (Project-Based Learning/PjBL) terhadap peningkatan Literasi Lingkungan siswa pada berbagai jenjang pendidikan di Indonesia. Tinjauan ini juga bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi variabel moderator, seperti jenjang pendidikan (SD/SMP/SMA/PT) dan variasi PjBL (misalnya, integrasi STEM/STEAM), yang memengaruhi efektivitas model ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan metaanalisis kuantitatif. Data primer berupa studi-studi eksperimen atau kuasi-eksperimen yang dipublikasikan dalam jurnal ilmiah terakreditasi SINTA (minimal SINTA 4) dan repositori perguruan tinggi dalam rentang waktu 2020–2025. Prosedur sintesis melibatkan penelusuran, penyaringan (berdasarkan kriteria inklusi), ekstraksi data statistik yang diperlukan (N, Mean, SD), dan perhitungan efek ukuran menggunakan formula Hedges’ g. Heterogenitas antar studi akan diuji, dan analisis moderator akan dilakukan jika heterogenitasnya signifikan. Hasil metaanalisis diantisipasi menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model PjBL memiliki efek ukuran yang signifikan dan tergolong sangat tinggi (g > 1.30) terhadap peningkatan kemampuan Literasi Lingkungan siswa. Variabel moderator seperti jenjang pendidikan dan integrasi STEM/STEAM dihipotesiskan akan menunjukkan perbedaan efektivitas PjBL. Berdasarkan sintesis kuantitatif ini, PjBL terbukti menjadi strategi pedagogis yang sangat efektif dan teruji untuk mengatasi permasalahan rendahnya Literasi Lingkungan, memberikan rekomendasi kuat untuk implementasinya dalam kurikulum pendidikan lingkungan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Environmental literacy is a crucial competence for Madrasah students, yet there is often an imbalance between theoretical understanding and practical implementation. This study aims to explore the environmental literacy profile of students at MTs Plus Ar Ruhama Caracas and unveil the relationship between cognitive knowledge and pro-environmental behavior. Methods: A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving 150 students (Grades VII, VIII, IX) selected through proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected using knowledge tests and behavioral questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rho correlation. Results: The findings revealed a very high average knowledge score (85.33; SD=10.940) and a high category average behavior score (71.53; SD=9.304). Cross-level analysis showed a linear cognitive improvement trend from grade VII to IX. However, the results of the correlation test showed no significant relationship between knowledge and behavior (rs = 0.026; p = 0.756). This study uncovers an "independent growth" phenomenon, where theoretical knowledge and behavioral habituation develop autonomously. It is suspected that positive student behavior is more influenced by the Madrasah's regulatory system and culture than by individual cognitive understanding. The behavior that emerges may be in the form of compliance (adherence to rules) rather than internalized values. These results recommend the implementation of action-based learning models to align both aspects of environmental literacy. Abstrak. Literasi lingkungan merupakan fondasi utama dalam membentuk karakter peduli lingkungan di tingkat Madrasah, namun sering kali terdapat ketimpangan antara aspek pengetahuan teoretis dan praktik nyata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi profil literasi lingkungan siswa MTs Plus Ar Ruhama Caracas serta mengungkap hubungan antara pemahaman kognitif dan habituasi perilaku ramah lingkungan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif dengan sampel 150 siswa (Kelas VII, VIII, IX) yang diambil secara proportional stratified random sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pengetahuan lingkungan dan kuesioner perilaku ramah lingkungan. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji korelasi Spearman’s rho. Temuan menunjukkan skor rerata pengetahuan yang sangat tinggi (85,33; SD=10,940) dan skor perilaku pada kategori tinggi (71,53; SD=9,304). Analisis lintas jenjang menunjukkan peningkatan kognitif yang linier dari kelas VII ke IX. Namun, hasil uji korelasi menunjukkan tidak adanya hubungan signifikan antara pengetahuan dan perilaku (rs = 0,026; p = 0,756). Penelitian ini mengungkap fenomena independent growth, di mana pengetahuan teoretis dan habituasi perilaku berkembang secara mandiri. Perilaku positif siswa disinyalir lebih banyak dipengaruhi oleh sistem regulasi dan budaya Madrasah dibandingkan pemahaman kognitif individu, perilaku yang muncul mungkin bersifat compliance (kepatuhan terhadap aturan) bukan internalized values. Hasil ini merekomendasikan perlunya model pembelajaran berbasis aksi untuk menyelaraskan kedua aspek literasi tersebut.
