Abstract

Social anxiety on adolescents is a condition when adolescents feel anxious due to internal or external pressure, thus causing them prone to experience anxiety when they were in a social situation. Generalized anxiety therapy as a non-pharmacological therapy is used to reduce anxiety in adolescents, while socialization therapy is used to increase their ability to socialize, one of which is to communicate with same-age friends. This study aimed to analyze the effect of giving generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy on the level of social anxiety in junior high school students in Malang. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The number of 60 participants was divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. This study has shown no significant decrease in social anxiety levels from giving generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy in both groups. This study showed no significant difference in giving generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy for social anxiety in adolescents. However, generalized anxiety therapy and socialization therapy may be an alternative to non-pharmacological therapy in adolescents with social anxiety, but it needs more research about this topic to improve evidence-based practice.

Abstract

Bullying is a global phenomenon that occurs all over the world. One of the factors thought to be closely related to bullying is the affective function of the family. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family affective function and bullying behavior in school-age children in Malang, Indonesia. This study used a cross-sectional approach. The measuring instrument used is the bullying behavior questionnaire (Sejiwa) and the family affective function questionnaire (Family Assessment Device/FAD). The sample of this study was 44 students aged 10-12 years. The results show that the family's affective function is in the moderate category, and bullying behavior is in the low category. Bivariate analysis showed the relationship between family affective function and bullying behavior in school-age children using the Spearman Rank test, p=0.002.  This study shows that the affective functions of the family are closely related to bullying behavior in school children. This research can be used to provide group counseling therapy regarding affective functions in the family to reduce the incidence of bullying behavior. This therapy can be applied by psychiatric nursing practitioners both in the school community and to families during interventions, through counseling about the affective function of the family. This research may provide a solution for handling bullying behavior in school children.

Abstract

Cataract is one of the eye diseases that causes the most blindness in Indonesia. Various factors influence the patient's attitude towards cataract surgery, such as education and knowledge. One's knowledge will be able to reduce feelings of anxiety in perceiving something. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge about pre-cataract surgery with the anxiety level of pre-cataract clients at RSUD Dr. Saiful Anwar Malang. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional research design with total sampling and a questionnaire about pre-cataract surgery clients' knowledge and anxiety levels using the non-probability sampling method. The total number of respondents is 60 clients. The results showed that 34 respondents had a low level of knowledge (66.67%). A total of 21 (41.18%) respondents experienced moderate anxiety. The Chi-Square test results showed a difference in a p-value of 0.040 (α < 5%), which showed a close relationship between the level of knowledge and anxiety in pre-cataract surgery clients at Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital Malang. Most pre-cataract surgery patients have a low level of knowledge and experience moderate anxiety. So, there is a relationship between the patient's level of knowledge and anxiety before cataract surgery. The lower the level of knowledge, the higher the anxiety experienced by the patient

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic impacts the mental health of adolescents who are classified as vulnerable groups. Adolescents face various stressors, so they need coping strategies. Previous research has discussed psychosocial problems in adolescents due to the pandemic but is still limited to discussing how adolescents deal with stress during the pandemic. This systematic review aims to identify the psychosocial impacts and coping strategies of adolescents during the pandemic. This systematic review research uses various sources of information from journal articles. The databases used are ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Ebsco. The instrument used is the PRISMA checklist. Based on results of literature research from 3 databases, according to predetermined keywords, 370 scientific articles were obtained. According to the inclusion criteria, further analysis was carried out, and 15 full texts were obtained for review. The psychosocial impacts experienced by adolescents during the pandemic are classified into two: psychological impacts and social impacts. Psychological impacts include depression, anxiety, stress, worry, sadness, PTSD, anxiety, helplessness, fear, and psychological stress. Social impacts consist of loneliness, feelings of isolation, social withdrawal or restriction, and lack of family support. Adolescent coping abilities during the COVID-19 pandemic are classified into positive and negative coping. Adolescents use coping to deal with psychosocial problems during the pandemic, classified into positive (active) and negative (passive) coping. Positive coping can improve adolescent mental health, while negative coping is at risk for psychosocial problems in adolescents.

Abstract

Working as a police officer at the Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) demanded physical, psychological, mental, emotional, and physical abilities. These demands often create pressure and reduce their quality of life and performance. This study aims to determine the quality of work-life (QWL) of the RTMC police officer. This research used the qualitative method of hermeneutic interpretive phenomenology. The data required for the study was collected through semi-structured interviews held with 4 participants selected according to purposive sampling with criteria: (1) 20-40 years old; (2) Members of the police who served in the Regional Police Traffic Management Center at the time of carrying out their work; (3) Members of the police who have experienced work stress and continued until data saturation was reached. Based on the results of the data analysis, the researchers obtained two main themes, including 1) Stress in working as RTMC police officers; and 2) Coping mechanisms to overcome the work stress of the RTMC police officers. The good QWL of police officers will encourage work performance, including the emergence of discipline, a sense of responsibility, and compliance. Leaders can provide motivation, trust and establish rational regulations to prevent the increasing stress of the work of the police officers.

Abstract

Suicide behavior in adolescents is a global phenomenon in all countries. Family is a causal factor and a protective factor for suicidal behavior in adolescents so that therapy given to adolescents with suicidal behavior must involve the family. This systematic review aimed to determine what family-based therapy can be given to adolescents with suicidal behavior. Systematic review began by identifying research articles in two databases, Proquest and EBSCO, 2013 – 2018, with predetermined keywords. The articles obtained were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria specified. Five articles matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on the analysis results, family therapy for adolescents with suicidal behavior can be grouped based on providing educational information and parenting strategies, changing behavior, increasing family attachment, and preventing suicide in adolescents. Several therapeutic methods can be given to families who have teenagers with suicidal behavior. Abstract

Swimming is a popular water sport for the community. This sport is considered very fun and suitable for anyone regardless of age. Swimming has various benefits, including improving psychosocial conditions in school-age children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to determine the effect of swimming training on reducing stress in school-age children. This quasi-experimental study was conducted using a one-group pretest-posttest design approach, which was conducted on 30 elementary school students registered at the Jalak Bali Swimming Club, Jembrana, Bali who have met the inclusion criteria. The training program was developed based on the principles of the Bompa training and the stress score was measured using a 14-item PSS-C questionnaire on pretest and post-test. then the data were analyzed using the paired t-test to determine the effect of swimming exercise. The results of these tests can be concluded that swimming training has a significant effect on reducing stress in school-age children (sig. value < 0.05). Furthermore, there is a decrease in stress scores of 3,467 from the results of the pretest to the post-test. Swimming training can reduce stress for school-age children. Swimming sports activities can be an alternative for parents or teachers in dealing with stress to improve the mental health of school-age children.
