Abstract

Global warming, driven primarily by carbon emissions, poses a critical challenge worldwide, including in Indonesia. In response, the Indonesian government issued Law No. 71 of 2021 to mitigate risks and promote carbon emission reduction. This study examines the influence of media exposure, managerial ownership, and industry type on carbon emission disclosure (CED), employing a quantitative design with purposive sampling of 66 companies from 2020-2022, resulting in 198 data points. CED is assessed through direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, indirect emissions from electricity, and other GHG emissions. Findings reveal an adjusted R-square of 53.9%, with media exposure and industry type significantly impacting CED positively. The study underscores the importance of organizations adopting carbon-friendly initiatives to reduce emissions in business operations. It highlights the need for stronger governmental regulations to enhance corporate awareness and compliance with carbon disclosure practices.

Abstract

Lecturer performance is a critical factor in improving the quality of higher education. This study investigates the impact of digital competence and psychological well-being on lecturer performance, with servant leadership as a mediating variable. A quantitative methodology was employed, collecting data through structured questionnaires distributed to lecturers at several private universities in Medan City. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results reveal that digital competence and psychological well-being positively and significantly affect lecturer performance. Additionally, servant leadership mediates the relationship between these independent variables and lecturer performance, highlighting its essential role in enhancing lecturers’ digital readiness and psychological well-being. This study contributes to the theoretical framework by integrating leadership theory with individual attributes (competence and well-being) to examine their influence on lecturer performance in higher education. The findings emphasize the importance of adopting servant leadership to improve lecturer performance by fostering digital competence and promoting psychological well-being.

Abstract

Papua Province, known for its abundant natural resources and cultural diversity, faces significant challenges in achieving inclusive economic development. Persistent disparities in income, infrastructure, and access to essential services have hindered equitable growth and social welfare improvement. This study examines the inclusiveness of economic development in Papua and explores its driving factors. Utilizing secondary data from the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan Nasional, Bappenas), BPS - Statistics Indonesia (Badan Pusat Statistik, BPS), and the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance (Direktorat Jenderal Perimbangan Keuangan, DJPK) for 2017–2021, the research employs descriptive analysis and panel data regression methods. The panel regression results highlight the critical role of fiscal policies in promoting inclusivity. Economic expenditures demonstrate a positive and significant impact on inclusive development, fostering equitable economic participation and productivity. In contrast, basic infrastructure spending shows a significant negative effect, possibly due to uneven allocation or misalignment with local community needs. While education expenditures are not statistically significant, they exhibit potential for enhancing inclusivity through long-term human capital development. These findings underscore the importance of targeted and well-distributed fiscal policies to address Papua’s unique socio-economic challenges. By prioritizing human capital, aligning infrastructure investments with local needs, and fostering balanced economic growth, policymakers can pave the way for more inclusive development across the province. This research provides valuable insights for designing effective policy interventions to reduce inequality and foster sustainable economic growth in Papua.

Abstract

Civilized citizens are very important for the state’s existence, especially in the era of globalization, where participation, obedience to norms, concern, and responsibility are needed to strengthen the state. However, some citizens are still less civilized, such as aggressive, emotional, apathetic, and violating norms. This shows the importance of balance between intellectual and moral intelligence. The study explores moral intelligence, the reactualization of moral intelligence, and its relationship to citizen civilization. The method used is a literature study on moral intelligence and its strengthening. The steps of the study include identification, content review, classification, and data analysis. The reactualization of moral intelligence is carried out by implementing seven main virtues: strengthening moral reasoning, improving the system, and continuing moral training. Moral training is a method of reactualizing moral intelligence by habituating the seven virtues of pleasant moral intelligence—implications of moral training in character education policies based on school culture and community-based.

Abstract

A sustainable work environment is pivotal in enhancing employee productivity, particularly in the port sector, which faces high occupational risks and complex operational demands. This study aims to analyze the impact of occupational health and safety (OHS) and the work environment on employee productivity at Pelabuhan Indonesia PT (Persero) II, Tanjung Pandan Branch. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method with structured questionnaires completed by 37 respondents, analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The research variables included OHS dimensions (workplace conditions, safe behaviors, psychological atmosphere) and work environment factors (lighting, air temperature, noise, workspace, safety). The analysis revealed that OHS significantly influences productivity (p < 0.05), with a greater contribution from the psychological atmosphere dimension than other technical aspects. The work environment also positively affects productivity, with lighting and workplace safety emerging as the most significant contributors to fostering a supportive work atmosphere. These findings underscore the importance of a conducive work environment, supported by employee security and comfort, in boosting motivation and operational efficiency. The study’s social implications highlight that investments in OHS programs and workplace improvements enhance productivity, foster harmonious workplace relationships, reduce conflicts, and strengthen employees’ social well-being. Together, these variables account for 68% of the variance in employee productivity, emphasizing the critical role of OHS and work environment management in improving operational efficiency. This study offers practical recommendations to strengthen OHS programs through regular training, stringent supervision, and infrastructure enhancements that ensure employee comfort. These results are expected to reference other local ports in developing policies integrating workplace safety and environmental management to achieve sustainable productivity.

Abstract

This study employs a qualitative case study approach to examine the leadership commitment of the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS) in optimizing zakat potential and empowering the community economy in Karanganyar Regency. Data were collected through observations, document analysis, and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including BAZNAS leaders and managers. Data analysis was conducted using triangulation to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. The results reveal that effective zakat management, driven by program innovation and supported by local government initiatives, significantly contributes to economic empowerment. Nonetheless, challenges such as low public participation, limited digital integration, and disparities in zakat distribution remain. Overcoming these issues necessitates strengthening governance, improving public awareness, integrating technological solutions, and implementing data-driven distribution strategies with oversight from independent supervisors. In conclusion, zakat possesses substantial potential for economic empowerment when managed with a firm commitment aligned with Islamic principles. The unwavering dedication of BAZNAS leadership can transform zakat management and distribution into a catalyst for economic growth, enhanced community welfare, and sustainable poverty reduction in Karanganyar Regency.

Abstract

Calls for local food in Eastern Indonesia are often dominated by sago. Still, this attention is overshadowed by continuously glorifying rice as the primary staple, ignoring regional contexts and cultural identities. Through a collaborative forum called the Food Festival Archipelago (FFA), we engaged students in sharing their stories about local food to explore their experiences, imaginations, and cultural ties to Eastern Indonesian cuisine. Using creative methods such as podcasts, short stories, Instagram posts, and videos, we discovered that Java-centric food politics have distanced students from their local food heritage. This disconnection forces many to rely on elders to rediscover traditional food knowledge, highlighting a critical loss of cultural identity. This initiative amplifies marginalized food narratives and serves as an act of resistance against global hegemony, fostering resilience through re-localization efforts. Furthermore, our findings underscore the importance of strengthening food sovereignty and local cultural identity in policy discussions, addressing the challenges posed by modernization while celebrating the rich culinary heritage of Eastern Indonesia.

Abstract

Mobile Health Services (MHS) have emerged as a crucial solution to address healthcare disparities in Papua, a region characterized by geographic isolation, inadequate infrastructure, and underserved communities. This study evaluates the effectiveness of MHS in improving access to and the quality of healthcare in remote areas of Papua, guided by Indonesia’s Minister of Health Regulation No. 90 of 2015. Using a qualitative research approach, the study analyzes secondary data from policy documents, implementation reports, and academic literature. The findings reveal that MHS has significantly enhanced access to essential services, including maternal and child health, vaccinations, and primary care, while alleviating travel burdens for isolated populations. However, the quality of care remains inconsistent due to resource limitations, workforce shortages, and inadequate medical equipment. Additional challenges, such as cultural barriers, logistical complexities, and financial instability, hinder the long-term sustainability of these services. Key strategies to address these issues include securing stable funding, enhancing workforce capacity, leveraging digital technologies, and fostering community engagement. Despite notable progress, systemic challenges must be addressed to ensure sustainable and equitable healthcare delivery in Papua.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the record of events (event studies) related to government policies on education in Indonesia, especially those closely associated with the book publishing industry. In addition, there are also records of events that describe the dynamics of the school book publishing business at PT Tiga Serangkai in 20 (twenty) years, from 2001 to 2023. This timeline was chosen to provide a different description concerning digital transformation in the era of Industry 4.0. The researcher divides the timeline into the conventional phase, the transition phase, and the new era phase, where the COVID-19 pandemic phase becomes a transition point and acceleration of digital transformation that touches almost all life. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out by studying documents related to government policies in the field of education during the study period of the above events, the study of company sales documents, and the study of documents from the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI). Data deepening was carried out by structured interviews with informants who were selected purposively, especially related to data and information on business dynamics at PT. Tiga Serangkai. Data analysis was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner. The results show that government policies significantly influence digital transformation in schools, both in learning and in the fulfillment of goods/services in education. In addition, government policies are closely related to school book publishing business innovation dynamics. On the other hand, the acceleration of digital transformation is greatly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
