This research analyzes the structure and linguistic features of anecdote texts in the book "Kumpulan Cerita Anekdot" (Collection of Anecdote Stories) by Purba et al. with the aim of developing a teaching module based on the Merdeka Curriculum. Using descriptive qualitative methods, the researcher analyzed 20 anecdote stories from 112 available stories. The analysis focused on five structural elements (abstract, orientation, crisis, reaction, and coda) and six linguistic features (past tense sentences, rhetorical sentences, temporal conjunctions, action verbs, imperative sentences, and exclamatory sentences). The research results show that 12 out of 20 anecdote texts meet structural completeness requirements, while 8 texts show varied incompleteness. In terms of linguistic features, none of the 20 texts have completely and perfectly developed linguistic usage. The most striking incompleteness is the use of past tense sentences which are almost absent in most texts. These findings indicate the need for further revision and development so that anecdote texts can meet ideal criteria according to curriculum standards. This research provides practical contributions to Indonesian language teachers in selecting and evaluating teaching materials, as well as for publishers to improve the quality of anecdote text content.

This study aims to describe the physical structure and inner structure of women-themed poems in the poetry anthology Dayita by Rosichin Mansur. The research problem focuses on identifying the physical and inner structures contained in the poems and examining their relationship in constructing meaning. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method with a structural approach. The data consisted of words, phrases, lines, and stanzas containing elements of physical and inner structures in five poems, namely “Wanita”, “Ibu”, “Ibu 2”, “Adorasi Ibu”, and “Lembaran Jiwa”. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques, while data analysis used structural analysis by identifying typography, diction, imagery, concrete words, figurative language, rhyme and rhythm, as well as theme, feeling, tone, and message. The results show that the physical structure is formed through varied typography, emotive and religious diction, diverse imagery, concrete words clarifying meaning, figurative language enriching expression, and rhyme and rhythm creating musicality. The inner structure reveals themes of women’s dignity and maternal sacrifice with feelings of respect, affection, and emotion, an adoring tone, and messages emphasizing respect for women and appreciation of mothers. Therefore, the physical and inner structures are interconnected in constructing the overall meaning of the poems.

This study examines conceptual metaphors in the Sumbawa language that reflect the ideal and non-ideal physical forms of its people. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data were collected from 12 informants by interviews and corroborated with other sources including dictionaries, other online sources, and confirmation from native speakers. This method was used because it allows the identification and classification of metaphors used to reflect or conceptualize the views of the Sumbawa people. The analysis results show that shape metaphors in the Sumbawa language function not only as rhetorical tools, but also as cognitive and cultural mechanisms in shaping physical form standards in Sumbawa society. Data identification shows the most dominant source domains such as food, flora, cosmos, animals, nature, objects, humans, and even mystical things. Meanwhile, the most dominant target domains projecting metaphors of ideal and non-ideal physical forms include parts of the face, body parts, and the body as a whole. These source and target domains were then mapped to conceptualize ideal and non-ideal physical forms in the Sumbawa language. For example, in the expressions “batata bulan satangal” (crescent forehead) and “mara bulan buntar subuh” (like a full moon at dawn). In the data, the moon is understood as a symbol of beauty, light, and perfection, thus mapping it to the human body, which is considered ideal. Conversely, mystical domains, such as the expressions "yam serusu" (like a sleep-disturbing genie) and "yam bura Labu" (like a Labu's magic), are used to describe bodies considered sub-ideal, disproportionate, and unsightly. Thus, this study demonstrates that conceptualization of the body in Sumbawa society is influenced not only by physical experience but also by local cultural belief systems. This research is expected to contribute to the development of cognitive linguistics studies by presenting empirical data from regional languages that have previously been underexplored.

This study aims to analyze the differences in memory recall between concrete and abstract vocabulary from the perspective of Working memory among university students. The study employed a quantitative approach using a simple experimental (within-subject) design. The participants consisted of 112 university students. The research instrument included two vocabulary lists containing 20 concrete words and 20 abstract words. Participants were asked to observe the word lists for 60 seconds and subsequently recall the words within 2–3 minutes. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test. The findings revealed that the mean score for concrete vocabulary recall was 11.688, whereas the mean score for abstract vocabulary recall was 9.491. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between concrete and abstract vocabulary recall. These findings suggest that concrete words are easier to remember because they possess stronger visual and verbal representations within the cognitive system. This study reinforces Dual coding theory in the context of language processing among university students and provides practical implications for vocabulary learning strategies based on visualization.

This study discusses the characteristics of language abilities of children with intellectual disabilities in the YouTube video “Understanding the Educational Side of Children with Mental Disabilities.” The study aims to describe the forms of language use, expressive and receptive language abilities, and the linguistic characteristics of the children’s utterances in the learning process. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research data consisted of verbal utterances produced by children with intellectual disabilities in a learning video at a Special School (SLB). The data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques, then analyzed through data reduction, data classification, linguistic analysis, data interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the language abilities of children with intellectual disabilities were dominated by the use of single words, short phrases, and simple sentence structures. In the linguistic aspect, limitations were found in phonology, syntax, and lexicon, such as articulation disorders in certain sounds, the use of simple language structures, and limited vocabulary. Nevertheless, the children’s pragmatic abilities showed relatively good development because they were able to understand questions, provide context-appropriate responses, express emotions, and use language as a means of social communication. Thus, the language abilities of children with intellectual disabilities are represented as structurally limited but still function communicatively in social interactions.

This study highlights the patriarchal power relations in Fachri Mahayupa's drama script Re- and the radical actions of female characters to eliminate sexual politics that place women in a subordinate position. The problem studied is how male domination is embedded in social structures and dramatic practices, as well as women's strategies to challenge it. The purpose of this study is to understand the radical actions of female characters in dismantling patriarchal power relations and upholding gender equality. The research method is qualitative descriptive-analytical, using dramatic text analysis to examine dialogues, monologues, narratives, and symbols that depict patriarchal domination and women's responses to it, within the framework of Kate Millett's sexual politics theory and radical feminism. The results show that female characters in the script systematically take over masculine roles, build courage, and instill anti-domination values, including efforts to completely eliminate male power through symbolic and dramatic actions, although their radical actions are not entirely successful. Another finding, the Re- manuscript emphasizes the importance of the concept of androgynous humans who integrate positive masculine and feminine traits, as an effort to create gender equality and social harmony, while also emphasizing that resistance to patriarchy is not only challenging male dominance, but also building balance and autonomy for all individuals.

This study explores the figurative expressions present in the commencement speech delivered by Taylor Swift at New York University in 2022. The study aims to pinpoint the various types of conceptual metaphors and to analyze the connection between literal and figurative meanings by using a cognitive semantic perspective. The goal is to show how metaphors serve not just as persuasive tools but also as cognitive instruments that assist audiences in grasping complex ideas. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed in this research, utilizing the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP) proposed by the Pragglejaz Group, together with the Conceptual Metaphor Theory developed by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson. The data for this analysis came from the transcript of Taylor Swift’s speech, from which 20 metaphorical phrases were chosen through purposive sampling. The results indicate that structural metaphors are the most prevalent, constituting 11 phrases (55%), while ontological metaphors account for 9 phrases (45%). Notably, no significant orientational metaphors were found in the address. Additionally, the analysis reveals that the ties between literal and figurative meanings are formed through cross-domain mapping, where tangible experiences clarify abstract ideas such as identity, emotional weight, adaptation, and direction in life. These results suggest that the metaphors used in the speech are crucial for shaping meaning and enhancing audience connection.

This study aims to describe students’ pedagogical readiness in opening and closing instruction skills in the Microteaching course. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observations of students’ teaching practices using a teaching skills assessment instrument. The research subjects were students enrolled in the Microteaching course in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. The data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that, in general, students demonstrated Farly good pedagogikah readiness in opening instruction skills, particularly in attracting students’ attention, delivering greetings, and explaining learning objectives. However, several weaknesses were still identified in closing instruction skills, such as the lack of optimal reflective activities, reinforcement of learning materials, and the delivery of follow-up activities. These findings indicate that microteaching plays an important role in developing the pedagogical competencies of prospective teachers, particularly in constructing effective, communicative, and reflective learning structures before engaging in actual classroom teaching practices.

This study examines how metaphors are used as mechanisms of political legitimacy in the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Debate. The study departs from the view that metaphors in political discourse can function as discursive strategies that construct moral representation, legitimize power, and shape the relationship between leaders and the people. By integrating Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Critical Discourse Analysis, this study seeks to explain the ideological functions of metaphor in Indonesian political discourse. The data consist of metaphorical expressions found in the debates between the Ahok–Djarot and Anies–Sandi candidate pairs. The findings show that metaphors are employed to construct moral legitimacy through representations of leadership, social justice, public welfare, and the delegitimization of political opponents. Metaphors also play a significant role in shaping moral frameworks that determine how political actions are understood as rational, moral, and worthy of public support within contemporary Indonesian democratic discourse.
