Abstract

Internet video is a new form of media that allows us to study the movement of narratives. Lectures discussing Islam and science often appear in this video. One of the most popular speakers in this material is Dr. Zakir Naik, a Muslim preacher from India. Dr Zakir Naik's lectures often interpret certain modern scientific discoveries to prove the divine origin of the Qur'an, Dr. Zakir Naik also uses material from the lecture "Qurʾān and Modern Science" in other lectures. He has included material i ʿ jāz ʿilmī similarly structured under various titles. This focus on iʿjāz creates a space where Muslims and others use videos and clips of Naik, sometimes for their own purposes. More research needs to be done, but Dr. Zakir Naik's video curation has the opposite point of view in the viewing and dissemination of the criticism video. Copying a video to a new user's "channel" opens it up to a new deployment network, new opportunities for discussion via comments and "likes", and new framing with changes in title, description, tags, and subtitles. The same goes for video criticism, which also generates backlash. As is common in fan-based media, the line between professional performance and amateur commentary quickly breaks down.

Abstract

The problem of solving questions related to force faced by form two science students of St. James Seminary/Senior High School was an issue which led to this study. The problem of students' negative attitudes toward learning about force and their poor performance in force concepts was discovered through direct observation in the school setting. Students have shown difficulties understanding the concepts of force because they have difficulties with the kind of abstract thinking used by scientists. Additionally, because of the language that is used in our environment on a daily basis and since scientific terminology frequently differs from that of common speech, students usually have ideas that are different from those of scientists. It is commonly thought that teaching and understanding the concept of force, particularly when it involves acceleration, is difficult. To curb the problem identified, laboratory practical activities was employed. Sixty-two second year students of St. James Seminary/Senior High School in the Sunyani Municipality in Bono Region were purposively sampled into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught using laboratory practical activities as instructional technique and the control group using traditional method of teaching. Two research questions and a hypothesis were raised in the study. The instruments were pre-test and post-test, practical activities, observation and questionnaires for both the experimental and control groups. Data collected were analysed using simple frequency, z-test and descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that students exposed to frequent laboratory practical activities performed better than those exposed to traditional method of teaching. The findings from the research also indicated that students in the experimental group confidence increased from lesson to lesson. The study recommends that physics teachers take students through a lot of more laboratory practical activities, since this will help students’ gain better understanding of the concept and improve their academic performance.

Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews and literature study from various sources related to this research. The technique used in the selection of informants is a purposive sampling technique. The results of this study indicate that forms of discrimination against women still exist in tertiary institutions, even though the issue of gender equality is receiving increasing attention. In addition, women often consider themselves weaker than men, which is one of the reasons for gender inequality against women themselves.

Abstract

This study explores the protection of civilian rights, focusing on the right to life and religious freedom, within Islamic and international legal contexts. It comprises two main aspects: "The entitlement to life and the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment" and "Right to respect for religious beliefs, customs, and traditions. In a post-9/11 world, where misconceptions about jihad have proliferated, this research distinguishes between Islamic legal theory and the legislation of Muslim nations. It argues that Islamic law has historically played a pivotal role in safeguarding civilian rights during armed conflicts. It predates the Declaration of Human Rights on a global scale by centuries and aligns with modern international conventions. Islamic humanitarian law reveres civilian rights, condemning violations as crimes against humanity. Through rigorous research, including a review of primary sources in Islamic and international law, this study sheds light on the historical evolution and contemporary relevance of these legal frameworks. It highlights the enduring significance of principles rooted in Islamic law, in harmony with modern international human rights standards. In conclusion, this research provides an in-depth exploration of the intersection of Islamic and international law in safeguarding civilian rights during conflicts. Understanding these legal frameworks in their historical context is essential for global peace and justice.

Abstract

Cereal grains such rice, sorghum, maize and millet among others are the staple foods in large parts of the world, supplying most of the energy and bulk in diets. Pesticide residue analysis in cereals from the various sampling locations for this dissertation revealed the following organochlorines Aldrin, Dichloran, Dieldrin, Endrin, Endosulfan, Mirex, Lindane, Methoxychlor, Heptachlor Epoxide, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane, Hexachlorocyclohexane, and 2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl). The presence of pesticide (Organochlorines) residues is detected in the samples of cereals (Rice, Maize, Millet and sorghum) analyzed. This could be as a result of high utilization of various pesticides during plant, cultivation and storage thus leading to the bioaccumulation of this substance in the individual cereals. It indicates high levels of non-carcinogenic risk associated with the life time consumption of cereals produce and sold within this region. Organochlorine pesticides also detected suggest the continuous use of obsolete banned pesticides in the cultivation and storage of cereals. Based on findings from this study’s, I hereby make the following recommendations. Regulatory agencies in Nigeria should step up efforts to ensure compliance with the ban on these chemicals. Farmers and other pesticide users also need to be educated on the dangers of using banned products and on the over application of these pesticides. Furthermore, farmers should be educated on the properly usage of these chemical product, during plant, harvest and storage. Also, manufacturers of these chemicals should produce less toxic pesticide using organic materials in other to prevent the health risk associated with chemical pesticide and their residues in food crops and the environment.
