Abstract

Waste management issues remain an environmental challenge that requires active community involvement, particularly in the practice of waste sorting from the source. Although the community has received education regarding waste management, consistency in implementing waste sorting behavior often declines over time. This community service activity aims to revitalize awareness and reinforce community behavior in conducting waste sorting in Karangtawar Village, Lamongan Regency. The activity was carried out on August 25, 2023, involving 26 participants consisting of youth organization members, village officials, and PKK members. The method used was an educational-participatory approach through counseling, waste sorting demonstrations, and interactive discussions. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes, and then analyzed descriptively in a qualitative manner. The results of the activity indicate high participation and enthusiasm from the participants throughout the event. Participants were able to understand the differences between organic, inorganic, and recyclable waste, and demonstrated increased awareness of the importance of waste sorting. As a follow-up, separated waste bins were provided to support the implementation of waste sorting behavior within the community. Nevertheless, the sustainability of waste sorting behavior still requires ongoing guidance and reinforcement. This activity demonstrates that an educational-participatory approach is effective in enhancing public understanding and awareness of sustainable waste management.

Abstract

Loneliness among older adults is a psychosocial issue that requires attention because it can affect mental health, quality of life, and social engagement, especially among those living in nursing homes. This community service activity aimed to describe the implementation of the OSING-MIND program as a psychosocial assistance model based on local Osing culture for older adults at Sahabat Lansia Nursing Home, Blambangan Village, Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency. The activity used a community-based psychosocial assistance approach with a pre- and post-activity evaluation design involving 40 older adults. The program was conducted in six sessions: Ngerti Rasa, Sadar Napas, Kelingan Sing Apik, Nata Pikir, Guyub Rukun, and Urip Ana Maknane. Each session integrated simple mindfulness practices, reminiscence, positive affirmations, social interaction, life-meaning reflection, and local Osing cultural values. Evaluation was conducted through loneliness score measurement, participant engagement observation, and feedback from participants and nursing home staff. Results showed a decrease in the mean loneliness score from 7.05 to 3.40. No participants remained in the high loneliness category after the activity. These findings suggest OSING-MIND is contextual, humanistic, and applicable for elder care.

The service method combined service learning and community development through local potential observation, coordination, socialization, demonstration, hands-on production, product labelling, evaluation, and reflection. The results show that the training was implemented as part of a forty-five-day community service program with an 80% implementation achievement. Participants gained practical experience in transforming lemongrass into a functional product, improved their understanding of hand hygiene, and engaged in contextual learning. Andragogical analysis indicates that the training was supported by real learning needs, prior experiences, hands-on practice, accessible communication, and flexible scheduling.

Abstract

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is a common complaint among female students and can affect concentration, academic activities, and quality of life. One non-pharmacological effort that can be done to help reduce this complaint is through the implementation of an anti-inflammatory diet based on local foods. This community service activity aims to increase students' knowledge about the concept of an anti-inflammatory diet and the use of local foods in Bulukumba as an effort to prevent and reduce menstrual pain. The activity was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in the Hall of the Tahirah Al Baeti Bulukumba Midwifery Academy, involving 18 students. The implementation method included counseling, interactive discussions, questions and answers, demonstrations of local food-based menu examples, and distribution of educational leaflets. The final evaluation was carried out through questions and answers and simple questions to measure the level of participant understanding after the activity. The evaluation results showed an increase in students' knowledge about the anti-inflammatory diet. Of the 18 participants, 13 students (72.2%) had a good level of knowledge, while 5 students (27.8%) had a fair level of knowledge regarding the concept of an anti-inflammatory diet, its benefits in reducing menstrual pain, and the use of local Bulukumba foods as anti-inflammatory food sources. This activity demonstrated that local food-based health education can improve students' knowledge as a promotive and preventive measure in managing dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a physiological process that can develop into a pathological condition if early detection of pregnancy danger signs is not carried out. Lack of knowledge of pregnant women regarding danger signs, actions that must be taken, and the risks of not immediately seeking help can increase the incidence of pregnancy complications. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of pregnant women regarding pregnancy danger signs through health education activities. The activity was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 09.00 WITA at the Pratama Clinic area with a target of 17 pregnant women. The methods used included education using brochures, interactive lectures, discussions, and questions and answers. Before the education, an initial evaluation of the participants' knowledge was carried out, then a re-evaluation was carried out at the end of the activity. The evaluation results showed that before the education, most mothers only knew some of the pregnancy danger signs obtained from the KIA Handbook, but did not fully understand the actions to take when finding danger signs, how to prevent them, or the risks that could occur if not immediately addressed. After the education, there was an increase in participants' knowledge, where 15 mothers (88.2%) had a good level of knowledge and 2 mothers (11.8%) had a sufficient level of knowledge. Participants also showed high enthusiasm during the activity through active participation in discussions and asking various questions regarding their pregnancy conditions.
