Abstract

This study aims to examine the application and deviation of conversational maxims in Grice's cooperative theory in the podcast "Sule and Rizwan". This podcast was chosen because it presents interactions full of humor, spontaneity, and communication dynamics that are interesting to study pragmatically. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with listening and note-taking techniques as data collection instruments. Data in the form of utterances containing maxims of quantity, quality, relevance, and method are analyzed based on Grice's cooperative principle. The results of the study show that the speakers in this podcast consciously or unconsciously apply the four Grice maxims, but also often deviate from them for the purpose of humor, satire, or dramatic effect. These deviations do not interfere with communication, but rather enrich the meaning and strengthen the appeal of the conversation. These findings indicate that violation of maxims in the context of entertainment is not a form of communication failure, but rather an effective pragmatic strategy.

Abstract

Reading interest among elementary school children is a fundamental foundation for literacy development and long-term academic success. However, the reading interest of elementary students in Indonesia remains low due to limited engaging reading materials and an unsupportive literacy environment. This study aims to analyze the role of various types of reading materials, such as fairy tales, children’s storybooks, and literate textbooks, in enhancing the reading interest of elementary students. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, collecting data through literature review, observation, and document analysis to depict effective practices in literacy learning. The results show that fairy tales serve as an initial gateway to literacy by building a positive emotional connection to reading, while children’s storybooks strengthen independent reading habits through appealing illustrations and engaging plots. Literate and contextual textbooks broaden literacy scope by integrating everyday experiences. The findings emphasize the importance of selecting reading materials suited to children’s psychological characteristics and the active role of teachers and parents in creating a joyful reading environment. This study provides strategic input for educators and policymakers to improve literacy at the elementary school level.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze teachers’ understanding of authentic assessment. The assessment process seeks to evaluate whether educational goals have been met, thus highlighting the important role of evaluation in the education sector. Effective and comprehensive evaluation is conducted on an ongoing basis, providing educators with a comprehensive view of student learning achievement and progress. Each subject emphasizes the importance of ongoing assessment, which is aligned with broader educational goals and outcomes. This article serves as a literature review intended to explore the features of 21st century learning and their implications for assessment, specifically authentic assessment. Given globalization and rapid technological advancements, the educational paradigm has shifted from a teacher-centered approach to a student-centered approach. Learning in the 21st century prioritizes the enhancement of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills (often referred to as the 4Cs). Therefore, conventional assessment is considered inadequate to measure learning outcomes that are complex and contextual. This study explores various relevant scientific sources to formulate a comprehensive understanding of authentic assessment as an approach that is in line with the characteristics of 21st century learning. Authentic assessment emphasizes real, contextual processes and products, and provides meaningful learning experiences. The findings of this study recommend that teachers need to design assessments that are integrated with the learning process, encourage active student involvement, and assess abilities holistically. This study is expected to be a guide for education professionals in creating assessment methods that are in line with 21st century requirements.

Bilingualism of Junior High School Children and Its Implications for Indonesian Language Learning. This research seeks to explore how much interaction takes place between a child’s native language and their second language in junior high school students. The phenomenon of using multiple languages (bilingualism) is observed not just in informal settings, but it also extends into formal environments. This practice leads to children experiencing difficulties in differentiating between languages.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and identify the position, types, and ideal concept of curriculum within the educational system, particularly in the context of Indonesia's national education. The curriculum is regarded as the core of the educational system as it serves as the foundation for lesson planning, educational goal setting, material selection, and ensuring equitable access to quality education. The role of the curriculum in education carries strategic functions, including serving as a guide for teachers, a reference for evaluating the learning process, and a framework for developing students' holistic and sustainable competencies. The types of curriculumare classified based on orientation (traditional to modern), value systems (from humanistic to reconstructionist), and modes of implementation (theoretical or practical). This study employs a qualitative approach through literature review, drawing on educational books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and government policy documents. In the Indonesian context, the evolution of the curriculum from 1947 to 2023 reflects socio-political dynamics and shifts in global educational paradigms. The latest curriculum reform, known as Kurikulum Merdeka, represents an effort toward modernization and responsiveness to contemporary needs, emphasizing differentiated learning, character building, and flexibility in developing students' potential. The ideal curriculum concept proposed in this study is one that integrates academic, humanistic, technological, and social reconstruction approaches to create relevant, participatory, and meaningful learning experiences for students in addressing the challenges of the 21st century.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of classroom management and classroom arrangement in improving the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process, especially in the context of the Character Education Strengthening Program (PPK). The research method used is descriptive qualitative with the research location at SD Negeri 1 Wonosobo, Central Java. Participants included teachers, principals, and students. The results of the study indicate that flexible and conducive classroom arrangements, such as the arrangement of tables and chairs according to learning activities, as well as physical factors such as good lighting and ventilation, can improve student focus and collaboration. Effective classroom management, including careful planning, clear communication, and an inclusive approach, has been shown to create a positive learning climate and increase student motivation and achievement. Obstacles such as limited facilities and diversity of student characters can be overcome through a democratic approach, teacher training, and collaboration with parents. Integration of character values in PPK through class agreements and teacher role models also strengthens student character formation. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of synergy between classroom arrangements, classroom management, and PPK to create a holistic and effective learning environment.

Abstract

Thematic learning that integrates local wisdom through an ethnoscience approach is still not widely applied in elementary schools despite its great potential to improve understanding of science concepts while preserving local culture. This study aims to explore the implementation of ethnoscience-based thematic learning strategies and examine their impact on students’ science competence and understanding of local culture. Employing a qualitative research method with a case study approach, the study finds a significant improvement in students' comprehension of scientific concepts as well as an increased appreciation of local wisdom. This approach also enhances student engagement and motivation while encouraging teachers to implement contextual learning. Ethnoscience-based thematic learning has proven to be an effective strategy for integrating scientific and traditional knowledge in the elementary school curriculum.

Abstract

The curriculum is an important component of education in Indonesia because it is a set of plans and regulations regarding the objectives, content, teaching materials, and methods used in learning that will cause the quality of education in a country to rise or fall through its community resources. Why does the curriculum always change? Because there is a need to adapt to the times, technology, and community demands. The establishment of the curriculum began in 1947 with the first curriculum in Indonesia, the 1947 Lesson Plan Curriculum, up to the Merdeka Curriculum. Although curriculum changes aim to improve the quality of education, their implementation often faces several obstacles. The research method used by the researcher is a qualitative study through literature review of educational documents, books, and scientific articles related to the topic, enabling the researcher to obtain relevant and up-to-date information about the curriculum in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the development and changes in the national education curriculum in Indonesia from 1947 to the current Merdeka Curriculum.
