Abstract

The Integrated Islamic Boarding School Al Falah Abu Lam U produces approximately 30 kg of organic waste daily, primarily from dormitory activities. This waste has not yet been optimally managed by the pesantren. Given its composition, the waste has significant potential to be converted into eco-enzyme (EE), which can be utilized as fertilizer and dishwashing soap for the pesantren's needs. This community service initiative applies science and technology, particularly in the field of biotechnology transformation during the fermentation of fruit peels into EE, and organic chemical transformation in the process of converting EE into dishwashing soap. The program has successfully trained male and female students (santriwan and santriwati) as well as female teachers (ustadzah) in sorting organic waste and processing it into EE. Approximately 100 kg of fruit peels have been fermented into EE, and participants have also been trained in the production of dishwashing soap using the resulting EE.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has created a pressing need for digital transformation in various sectors, including entrepreneurship. However, many students and academics still lack adequate understanding and skills to identify future business opportunities through digital approaches. This community service activity, titled Digital Transformation Education for Identifying Future Business Opportunities, was conducted to address this issue. The program involved students and lecturers from Telkom University's Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Syiah Kuala University. Using the Service Learning (SL) approach, the activity was carried out through an online seminar that combined theoretical explanations and interactive discussions with digital business practitioners. Two experts in Islamic economics and information technology served as the resource persons. The activity aimed to increase digital literacy and entrepreneurial awareness among participants. Assessment through pre-test and post-test evaluations revealed a significant improvement in understanding, with the average score increasing from 63.5 to 85.8. The results demonstrate that structured digital transformation education can effectively enhance the capacity of the academic community in identifying and developing digital-based business opportunities. This activity also contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education, decent work and economic growth, and fostering innovation.

Abstract

Artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) activities in Geumpang, Pidie, are commonly practiced using unsafe and unregulated techniques, exposing local communities to environmental and health risks. This community service activity aimed to introduce metal detector technology to enhance safe and effective gold prospecting while reducing mining-related hazards. The program involved 20 local participants and was implemented using a service-learning approach that combined expert-led technical training with participatory community engagement. Hands-on training using Minelab GPX6000 and GPZ7000 detectors was delivered by international practitioners and academic facilitators. The results indicated a 72% improvement in participant knowledge, 85% tool operation proficiency, and a 70% increase in risk awareness. Furthermore, the community proposed a rotational tool-sharing system, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability. The initiative highlights how contextual technology transfer and collaborative training can contribute to safer mining practices and support sustainable development goals in remote mining communities.

Abstract

Karangsong Village in Indramayu Regency holds substantial economic potential in the fisheries, tourism, and creative industry sectors. However, more than 70% of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the village still rely on conventional marketing methods. Only around 30% utilize social media, and less than 10% have adopted digital branding strategies effectively. The main challenges faced by these MSMEs lie in the areas of production, business management, and marketing particularly in terms of product quality standardization, financial recordkeeping, inventory management, and the implementation of effective digital promotion strategies. This community engagement program aims to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly by utilizing the ChatGPT platform as a tool to improve the efficiency and quality of digital branding. The program is conducted in four stages: socialization to introduce the concept of AI and ChatGPT, technical training and mentoring, monitoring and evaluation of AI implementation outcomes, and the preparation of a final report along with sustainability recommendations. The solutions offered include using ChatGPT to recommend product innovations, develop business plans, generate promotional content, write social media copy, and create customer engagement chatbots. University students are actively involved in the implementation of the program, in alignment with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) initiative. Additionally, the program supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which focuses on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. The expected outcomes include AI-based marketing strategies that are practical and implementable for MSMEs, as well as enhanced customer engagement through digital media. This initiative is expected to strengthen the digital capacity of Karangsong's MSMEs in facing the challenges of the digital economy.
