Abstract

Hypertension is one of cardiovascular diseases in geriatrics. Hypertensive geriatric patients require a combination of more antihypertensives to achieve blood pressure targets, it can cause high risk of polypharmacy. Polypharmacy in hypertensive geriatric patients is at high risk of drug interactions that can affect their blood pressure. This study aims to identify the interactions of antihypertensives based on mechanism and severity and also to determine whether there is a change in blood pressure caused by drug interactions in geriatric hypertensive inpatients at RSUD Dr Soedarso on January – June 2019. Data were collected retrospectively from 38 patients’ medical records, using total sampling technique. Data were analyzed descriptively using E-book Stockley’s Drug Interaction and Drug Interaction Checker on medscape.com, drugs.com. There were 28 patients (73%) who may experience drug interactions with a total of 85 cases. Drug interactions with moderate severity and pharmacodynamic interaction mechanism often occur in a row were 61 cases (72%) and 79 cases (93%). There were a decrease and increase blood pressure, which in a row were 23 and 4 patients. The decrease of patients’ blood pressure estimated caused by synergistic drug interactions of antihypertensives and adjustment of each drug dose that has potential to increase blood pressure.

Abstract

One of the public health concerns is drug non-adherence. The main cause of poor hypertension control is noncompliance with antihypertensive medications. The elements that drive compliance behavior are numerous and complicated, with social support being one of them. Family support is critical in health care since it is through family support that a healthy family can be achieved. Family members can help by providing information about their sickness or reminding them to take their medications. The goal of this research was to identify the relationship between family support and medication adherence in hypertensive patients at Muara Wis Health Center, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, Province East Borneo. This study is descriptive correlational and uses a cross-sectional method, which involves measuring or observing at the same time and the same location. The participants in this study were 100 hypertensive patients of Muara Wis Health Center. The data in this study were analyzed using Spearman rank correlation. Based on the MMAS (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) questionnaire, medication adherence in hypertensive patients at the Muara Wis Health Center had 52 percent low adherence, 29 percent moderate adherence, and 19 percent high adherence. According to pill count, low adherence patients was 51 percent, moderate adherence was 29 percent, and high adherence was 20 percent. Patients with hypertension who had poor family support were 54 percent, those who received moderate family support were 26 percent, and those who received strong family support were 20 percent. Hence, there is a significant relationship between family support and medication adherence in hypertensive patients of Muara Wis Health Center.

Abstract

Kedabu leaves (Sonneratia ovata Backer) are known contain secondary metabolites, one of which is phenolic, flavonoid and antioxidant activity. Phenolic, flavonoids and antioxidant are known to inhibit the tyrosinase enzyme. The tyrosinase enzyme is involved in the process of melanogenesis which produces melanin. Melanin can cause hyperpigmentation. To prevent hyperpigmentation, tyrosinase inhibitors are needed. This study aimed to test the tyrosinase enzyme inhibitor in ethanol extract, n-butanol fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, n-hexane fraction of kedabu leaf (Sonneratia ovatta Backer) using L-tyrosine as a substrate. The method used to get ethanol extract using ethanol maceration, while some fractions are obtained using the fractionation method. The test was carried out using L-tyrosine and kojic acid as a positive control with absorption measurements using microplate reader at a wavelength of 492 nm. The results showed that the best tyrosinase inhibitory activity was produced by the ethyl acetate fraction with an IC50 value of 18,82 g/mL, followed by the n-butanol fraction with an IC50 value of 24,42 g/mL, and the n-hexane fraction with an IC50 value. 28,77 g/mL, ethanol extract with an IC50 value of 99,09 with a strong category for all samples compared with kojic acid as a positive control with an IC50 value of 30,09 g/mL.

Abstract

Beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) is a plant that contains betasianin (purple pigment) and betasantin (yellow pigment) which makes the color of beets dark red to purplish. The fruit contains a small amount of flavonoid compounds (anthocyanins) which have antioxidant activity. This study aims to develop a body butter formulation of ethanol extract of beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) as an antioxidant and to see the antioxidant activity with the DPPH immersion method. Extraction of beets used the maceration method using 70% ethanol as a solvent. The antioxidant activity test formula was measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 520 nm. The results showed that formula I obtained an IC50 value of 240 µg/mL (AAI = 0.16), formula II obtained an IC50 value of 139.93 µg/mL (AAI = 0.28), and formula III obtained an IC50 value of 133.34 µg/mL (AAI = 0.29). The higher the antioxidant concentration of the fruit ethanol extract body butter preparation, the smaller the IC50 value, and the greater the AAI value obtained. Based on the results obtained, the antioxidants from the beetroot ethanol extract body butter were still able to fight free radicals at a weak level.

Abstract

Alkaline water is water with a higher pH level than normal drinking water, it has a pH between 7-9.5 and it also has antioxidant activity. Aloe vera (Aloe vera) contains nutrients, vitamins and minerals that can function as natural antioxidants, such as vitamins C, vitamins A, magnesium, and zinc. Fresh aloe vera is less acceptable and preferred because of its taste, so it is necessary to process A. vera into a more durable and acceptable product. This study aims at determining the best and acceptable A. vera alkaline drink formula through product stability testing, including organoleptic, pH measurement, microbiological test. Then, the selected formula is analysed for antioxidant activity using DPPH, while nutritional content testing including fat content, protein content, and carbohydrate content. The result of the stability test of alkaline A. vera drink with concentrations of F1 (10%), F2 (20%), and F3 (30%) after accelerated storage conditions at 5oC and 35oC organoleptically did not change, and ulfilled the requirements under the Minister of Health Regulation of the Food and Drug Administration number 13 of 2019, but the pH decreased because of oxidation reaction of phenolic compounds from A. vera gel which produced aloetic acid and chrysophanic acid. The hedonic test, a result of the selected formula was F3 (30%) had a strong antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 9.952%, fat content 0.09%, protein content 0.16% and carbohydrate content 57.02%.
