Implementation of Inquiry Learning to Enhance Students’ Critical Thinking Skill. This research was aimed at investigating the use of inquiry learning model to improve students’ critical thinking in the course of Non Banks and Banking Financial Institutions and the effectiveness of using inquiry learning model in that course. There are 53 third semester students of Economics Education Study Program from FKIP UNILA 2016/2017 who takes non Bank and Banking financial institutions course as the subject of this reserach while the object of this reserach was inquiry-based learning model. This research was Classroom Action Research which used a developed model from Kemmis and Mc Taggart with four components in every cycle; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The observation result from the first cycle described that there are 68.50% students who has done critical thinking activity while in the second cycle, there are 97.69% students. This research was conducted in two cycles and since in the second cycle the result has shown the improvement. From this result, it showed that there is an improvement in students’ critical thinking ability who takes non Bank and Banking financial institutions course. Based on this result, it can be suggested that inquiry learning model is effective to be implemented in the course of non Bank and Banking financial Keywords: inquiri model learning, non bank institutional, banking institutins DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v6.i2.201601

Abstract

Students’ Opportunities, Challenges and Coping Mechanisms in Limited Face-To-Face Classes. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the students’ opportunities, challenges and coping mechanisms in limited face-to-face classes at the College of Education, Eastern Samar State University. A phenomenological study was employed to gather qualitative data from the participants. For the second semester, the school year 2021 - 2022, students from the first-year level to third-year level had limited face-to-face-learning. Half of the 54-hour lectures of every course were recited through a distance learning approach, while the remaining 27 hours were recited through face-to-face encounters in the college. Methods: A total of 74 students agreed to participate in the study. They had to make a weekly journal log to determine the challenges and opportunities in limited face-to-face classes. Moreover, Six focus group discussions with three randomly chosen students were also done as another data source. Findings: Among the students’ learning opportunities were in-depth conceptual understanding, self-paced learning, self-regulated learning, and prompt teachers’ feedback. On the other hand, the learning challenges encountered by the students were internet connectivity glitches and course design issues. From the challenges identified by the students, relocating to other places with good internet speed and asking for help from classmates were their coping mechanisms for internet connectivity glitches, while asking for help from classmates and understanding the issues through peer support were students’ coping mechanisms for course design issues. Conclusion: The students’ opportunities of limited face-to-face classes led them to succeed in their academic performance; moreover, they could cope with all the challenges they faced during the limited face-to-face classes.   Keywords: limited face-to-face classes, opportunities, challenges, coping mechanism.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202335

Abstract

To analyze the security practices of Higher Education Institutions in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines during the surge of the COVID-19 disease is the objective of this study. The researcher used qualitative methodology using action research design through the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) approach. Study participants were members of security management of three HEIs selected thru purposive sampling. The result of the study showed that the security management of the Institutions guarantees the security of all stakeholders in all areas of security covered in the study by complying with all COVID-19 health and security protocols. However, the upsurge of the COVID-19 pandemic causes dangerous threats to the institutions' areas of security.
