Abstract

Supervision in Coaching of Early Childhood Teachers in Sub-District Banda Raya, Indonesia. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the planning, implementation, and follow-up of the supervision carried out by the supervisors in developing early childhood education teachers in Banda Raya Sub-District, Indonesia. Methods: A descriptive method with a qualitative approach was used in this study. The data needed were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subject of this study consisted of supervisors, principals, heads of teacher working groups, and senior teachers of early childhood education. Findings: The results of this study indicates that (1) the supervision was planned by the supervisors in order to improve the ability of early childhood education teachers in doing their main tasks. In addition, (2) the supervision was conducted through a coordination so that there was no overlapping of the supervision schedules of the school principal and teachers. Finally, (3) this supervision was then followed up with guidance on teachers who encountered obstacles through discussions, case conferences, and question and answer sessions.Keywords: Supervision, early childhood teachers, Indonesia.DOI: 10.23960/jpp.v10.i3.202010

Abstract

Teachers' Instructional Planning and Design for Learners in Difficult Circumstances. Objectives: This study examined teachers' practices, planning, and creating of educational materials for all students facing challenges. Methods: The study used phenomenology research to evaluate teachers' planning and design processes. In this study, eight teachers were interviewed in depth. The researchers used coding and theme analysis to interpret textual patterns. Findings: Making instructional resources that are appropriate for your teaching style and your students' skills and situations requires a lot of thought and planning. The teachers' thoughts were as follows: Content and distribution, resources and context, technological integration, adaptability and flexibility. Conclusions: New teaching methods that are more sensitive and flexible to student needs are greatly beneficial. Abstract

This research used descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection were conducted through observations, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this research are principal, vice principal, teacher, and supervisor. The results of this research shows: (1) The program was arranged at the beginning of school year by school development team, including dividing teachers task, arranging annual and semester program, planning to organize a workshop, participating in training, cultivating teachers, creating an innovative learning media, and supervising the class. (2) The program is always implemented according to predetermined plan. The implementation process shown by the improvement of teacher and student discipline, but the principal is still less assertive in disciplining the teacher; (3) The evaluation was done at the end of semester and become the follow-up to determine the following program. The result of evaluation was presented to teacher as individual or group; and (4) The obstacle that occurred are teacher have no basic skill in ICT, not mastering the teaching materials, lack of motivation to read. Keywords: principals’ management, professional competence, elementary school teacher. DOI: 10.23960/jpp.v11.i2.202120

Abstract

Soft skills in the teachers’ professional development perspective. Objectives: This study aims to determine the role of soft skills in teacher professional development. Methods: This study used a survey method for a number of Social Sciences Education teachers in junior high schools. Data was collected using a questionnaire regarding teacher identity and soft skill instruments as a result of development that had been expertly tested and small group tests according to the Borg and Galls design. Findings: There was a significant relationship between age and the quality of soft skills scores (r = -0.292, p < 0.05.). In line with that, a negative correlation was also obtained between age and personal attributes (r = -0.287, p < 0.05. Conclusions: Soft skills tended to decrease for teachers as they grew older, the soft skills the teachers had differed in terms of rank and class and Soft skills were closely related to teacher professional development.Keywords:Soft skills, social demography, professionalism. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v9.i1.201906

Abstract

Abstract: Bilingual Education Program: Teachers’ and Students’ Perspectives and Challenges. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to investigate the teachers’ and students’ perspectives of bilingual education program and the challenges faced. Methods: In this qualitative case study, the participants were the science teachers and the tenth-graders of the program. The data were gathered using interviews and observations and were analyzed by organizing and planning the results, paying attention to data, coding the data, generating the description and themes, and reflecting descriptions and themes. Findings: First, all science teachers and most students had positive perspectives and admitted the benefits of the program. Second, all the teachers and students faced challenges during the implementation of the program. Conclusion: All teachers and most students positively perceived bilingual education program. However, their positivity could not free them from facing challenges. Abstract

Workload and Workplace Well-being of Junior High School Teachers: Their Implications to NAT Performance of Grade 10 Students. Objectives: This research examined Grade 10 students' 2017-2018 NAT performance, explored junior high school teachers' workload and workplace well-being, and investigated the relationship between workload, workplace well-being, and NAT performance. Methods: Descriptive-correlational designs were used, utilizing BEA data and survey questionnaires on workload and workplace well-being administered to junior high school teachers in Malaybalay and Valencia Cities. Findings: Grade 10 students' 2017-2018 NAT performance was low proficient, and junior high school teachers reported heavy workloads but high workplace well-being. No significant relationships were found between NAT performance and workload or workplace well-being. Conclusion: Grade 10 students' 2017-2018 NAT performance presented a challenge. Teachers reported heavy workloads but high workplace well-being. Abstract

Objectives:The main objective of this study was to analyze the influence of the variables locus of control, servant leadership, and innovative work behavior on the performance of private high school teachers in Pematangsiantar City. Methods: This research uses a research design with a quantitative approach and online questionnaires distribute the research data. The sample used in the study were 110 respondents. The basis for determining the sample is oriented to the non-probability sampling approach by using the purposive sampling formula. Findings: The results of this research explain that locus of control, servant leadership, and innovative work behavior have a positive and significant effect on teacher performance. Conclusion: The findings of this study confirm that the better the role of locus of control will have implications for the resulting better performance. Abstract

Peer-tutoring Worksheet to Improve Student’s Self-efficacies at Departement of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Universitas Lampung. Objectives: This quantitative approach research investigated the influence of peer tutoring worksheet to improve student’s self-efficacy in learning. Methods: This study involved 56 students at primary teacher education, department of science education, Universitas Lampung. This study used N-Gain analysis and paired sample t-test to find the differences and improvement between pre-test and post-test in self-efficacy after given peer-tutoring worksheet treatment. Finding: Paired sample t-test indicated that there are the significant differences between pre-test and post-test after given peer tutoring worksheet treatment. N-gain analysis also revealed that there is improvement in student’s self-efficacy in learning after using peer-tutoring worksheet method in learning. With peer-tutoring worksheets, students are able to encourage and support each other so it increased student’s self-efficacy. Abstract

Effect of Kahoot Media on Learning Outcomes of Prospective Elementary School Teacher Students. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of Media Kahoot on the learning outcomes of PGSD students. Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental research, namely by applying the use of Kahoot Media in the experimental class, the treatment is carried out to examine student learning performance. Findings: The average post-test score for the experimental class using Kahoot Media was 87.24 while the average in the Control class was 79.35. So that there is an increase in the average value of 7.89 using Kahoot Media. The use of Kahoot Media on the material characteristics of living things is quite effective for student learning outcomes. Abstract

Developing students’ critical thinking skill is highly important nowadays to provide students’ skills in encountering various challenges in their life. Objectives: This study investigates the strategies employed by teachers during the teaching and learning processes to promote students’ critical skills. Methods: This study used a qualitative research approach conducted in a senior high school consisting of 50 teachers and 5 teachers were selected as the participants of this research. The data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews and the data were analyzed descriptively. Findings: This study found several strategies employed by the teachers in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills.
