Abstract

Development of Canva-Based "PANDERA" Learning Media to Enhance Elementary Students’ Understanding of the Five Human Senses. The topic of human senses is a crucial component of the fifth-grade elementary school curriculum. However, due to its abstract nature, it can be challenging for students to grasp. The use of technology in education has brought significant changes in the way of teaching and learning. Therefore, innovative learning media are essential to enhance students' understanding and make the material more accessible. Objectives: This study aims to validate and evaluate the PANDERA learning media, or the Canva-based Human Senses application, designed for fifth-grade elementary school students. Methods: This study employs a research and development (R&D) approach, utilizing the ASSURE model, which consists of six stages: Analyze Learners, State Objectives, Select Methods, Media, or Materials, Utilize Media and Materials, Require Learner Participation, and Evaluate. Findings: The expert validation results in the form of assessments of aspects of material, design, content and learning obtained an average score of 4.7, based on the ≥ 4 category, the PANDERA learning media was classified as feasible (valid). Meanwhile, the implementation results for fifth-grade students showed an average pretest score of 48.57 and a posttest score of 84. Statistical analysis results of the paired sample t-test, the Sig. (p-value) was found to be 0.01, which is Sig. (p-value) < 0.05. This indicates a significant difference before and after using the PANDERA learning media. Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the PANDERA learning media, developed using the Canva application for the human senses topic, is effective and can be used to enhance the understanding of fifth-grade elementary school students. Keywords: learning media, canva application, five human senses.

Abstract

Do Health and Safety, Readiness and Preparedness, and Support and Opportunities Predict Teaching Motivation? Objectives: The study determined the relationship of three motivational factors (Health and Safety; Readiness and Preparedness in Distance Learning; and Support and Opportunities) to the teaching motivation in the new normal of junior high school teachers. Methods: Regression analysis was used to measure the significant relationships among the three motivational factors and teaching motivation of 204 (34% male and 66% female) respondents who answered the online survey. Findings: The motivational factors such as health and safety (????=0.258; p-value=0.003) and readiness and preparedness in distance learning (????=0.217; p-value=0.024) revealed that these are significant predictors of teaching motivation. Conclusion: Even though the three motivational factors have a direct positive relationship to teachers’ level of motivation, it was revealed that the health and safety motivational factors result in the highest need of emphasis to level up a teacher's motivation to continue teaching. Keywords: teaching motivation, teachers’ motivational factors, health and safety, distance learning, support and opportunities.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202208

Abstract

Integrating Life Skills and Social Values Through Physical Education and Sport for Positive Youth Development in Indonesia: A Systematic Review. Objective: Positive youth development (PYD) through physical education and sports is important in building a healthy, active, and superior young generation in Indonesia. This systematic review aims to determine the effectiveness of integrating life skills and social values in sports to improve PYD in Indonesia. The program is based on intentionally structured positive youth development so that teachers or coaches can develop exercises relevant to the needs of students or athletes to transfer life skills and social values to different aspects of life. Methods: Literature searches were conducted using the Scopus database, and the search strategy was using PRISMA guidelines. Of the 2,597 articles screened, five articles met the inclusion criteria. This study contains information about PYD through physical education and sports learning in Indonesia, with the research population spread across schools or sports clubs. Findings: The results of this review show that the integration of life skills and social value components carried out in adolescents through sports activities and physical education is positively correlated with an increase in positive adolescent development. The results of the study also show that life skills education programs have the potential to protect children from possible negative influences and as a way to maximize the development of adolescents towards a brighter future. Conclusion: The review concludes that integrating life skills and social values through physical education and sport effectively supports PYD in Indonesia. In addition, it is important to conduct consistent research to generate new knowledge about the potential implementation of the integration of life skills and social values through sport to support PYD in Indonesia. However, further research can be expanded by linking the contribution of the PYD to efforts to support educational sustainable development goals through physical education and sports. Keywords: life skills, social values, positive youth development, physical education, sports.

Methods: Descriptive and correlational research designs were employed to address the study's objectives. The participants included 30 mathematics teachers and 314 randomly picked students from all the classes handled by the mathematics teachers. An adopted survey questionnaire collected the data on Teaching Effectiveness and Questionnaire Checklist. Findings: Results revealed a moderately significant positive relationship between teaching experience and participation in professional development activities, and mathematics teachers' commitment. The result suggests that commitment to the teaching profession necessitates teaching experience. The study likewise indicated a significant positive relationship between mathematics teachers' professional development activities and teaching for independent learning.  Conclusion: Exposure to such professional activities is an essential factor that influences teachers' development, sense of responsibility to their profession, and ability to assist their students in becoming independent learners.
