Abstract

English Self-regulated Language Learning on Youtube: Students’ Purpose, Perception, and Action. Objective: This study scrutinizes English learners’ self-regulated language learning using Youtube beyond the formal classroom. Methods: to reach the objective, a qualitative inquiry approach was employed in this study. Twenty-two university students in Central Java province Indonesia who had substantial experiences of watching English-teaching videos were purposively invited for a semi-structured interview to depict how they performed self-directed learning. The data were qualitatively analyzed by classifying based on the main themes, coding, reviewing, and conclusion drawing Findings: the results portrayed that the most dominant goals of self-directed language learning on Youtube were to look for more learning sources, to enhance English skills and vocabulary, and to explore cultural knowledge. Another finding showed that learning English on Youtube was more interesting and flexible without time and space restriction. Conclusion: Youtube videos offers a fertile ground for educational purposes, particularly for developing English skills in a self-directed learning beyond formal classroom. Keywords: english-teaching on youtube; self-regulated language learning; informal learning.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202218

Abstract

The Role of Parents in Improving the Social Emotional Development of Early Childhood: A Systematic Literature Review. The socio-emotional development of early childhood has a long-term impact on an individual's ability to interact socially and maintain emotional balance in later life. This research aims to examine the significance of parental roles in enhancing the socio-emotional development of young children. The study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, collecting data through literature searches in various journals via databases like Google Scholar. Twenty five articles were analyzed. The research findings indicate several actions that parents should take to optimize the socio-emotional development of young children, including serving as primary educators, caregivers, and role models. Additionally, parents need to provide encouragement and create learning opportunities within their environment. In conclusion, collaborative efforts between fathers and mothers are essential for the optimal socio-emotional development of children. Keywords: early childhood, the role of parents, social-emotional development.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202314

Abstract

Objectives: The present study assessed google classroom reception and usage among preservice STM teachers in south-west Nigeria. Methods: The participants were 480 preservice STM teachers purposively selected from four universities in south-west Nigeria within the blueprint of a correlational survey research design. Data analysis was carried out using mean, standard deviation, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis at 5% level of significance. Findings: Results showed that 94.1% of the variance in preservice STM teachers’ actual use of google classroom was accounted for by a combination of attitude towards use, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and behavioural intention to use google classroom. Conclusion: Conclusively, STM teachers’ educator should promote the adoption and utilization of google classroom among the preservice STM teachers to increase their reception of google classroom for instructional purposes. Keywords: reception, google classroom, stm, technology acceptance model, preservice teachers.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202231

Abstract

How Indonesian Primary Teacher Motivate and Trains Critical Thinking Skills during Pandemic?: A Phenomenological Study. Objective: This research aims to describe how teachers motivate and train critical thinking skills during the pandemic. Method: This research was a qualitative study with phenomenological type. The data were collected with a phone-call interview. It was then followed up with a WhatsApp-Group discussion of fifteen primary school teachers at a higher level class in Dawe district, Kudus Municipality, Central Java, Indonesia. The interview data were then reduced and presented in the table. Then, they were searched for the sub-themes. The applied analysis was done with Bogdan & Biklen’s stages, consisting of reducing, finding the themes, and connecting the sub-themes. Finding: The interview result analysis resulted in five themes of motivation aspect and three themes dealing with critical thinking skill training. Conclusion: The obtained findings showed that teachers could improve the learners’ learning motivation during the pandemic. However, they could not train the critical thinking skills due to various limitations. Keywords: critical thinking skill, learning motivation, pandemic. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v11.i1.202104

Abstract

Implementing Instruction with Metaverse: Insights from the TRINGO Concept. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the implementation of learning using the metaverse, and to link it to the TRINGO approach. Methods: Through a combined meta-synthesis and narrative approach, the results show the positive impact of the metaverse in learning. Findings: The "Ngerti" process with Metaverse creates a holistic learning experience, illustrated by Gemiverse. The "Ngrasa" process shows positive sentiments about the potential of the metaverse to improve the quality of learning. Concrete steps in the "Nglakoni" process, such as addressing privacy and increasing technological accessibility, require positive action and awareness of digital literacy. Conclusion: Overall, this process forms the basis for optimizing the metaverse to enhance understanding, emotional experience, and learning effectiveness. Recommendations for using the metaverse with the TRINGO concept can enrich the educational process in a sustainable way for educators and researchers. Keywords: instructional process, metaverse, tringo, education.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202327

Abstract

Principal Instructional Leadership and School Well Being as Predictors of Students Learning Readiness in Implementing Five-Day School Policy. Objectives: This study aims to examine the influence of principal instructional leadership and school well-being on students' learning readiness in the context of implementing the five-day school policy in senior high schools. Methods: The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. A total of 125 students from senior high schools in Banyumas Regency were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through validated questionnaires measuring instructional leadership, school well-being, and learning readiness. Statistical analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with SPSS 24.0. Findings: The results indicate that principal instructional leadership has no significant effect on students' learning readiness (t = 0.304; p = 0.762). In contrast, school well-being has a significant positive influence (t = 4.054; p = Conclusion: The findings suggest that school well-being plays a more substantial role in supporting students’ learning readiness than principal instructional leadership within the implementation of the five-day school policy. Efforts to enhance student well-being should be prioritized in policy execution and school leadership practices. Keywords: five-day school policy, instructional leadership, learning readiness, school well-being.

Abstract

Profile of students’ physics problem-solving skills and problem based learning implementation supported by website on gas kinetic theory. Objectives: To analyze physics problem solving skills as a consideration in the implementation of a website-based PBL model on kinetic theory of gases. Methods: The research subjects were 162 high school students in class XI in Madiun Regency based on purposive sampling. Data collection were using problem-solving skills test ACCES indicators, student questionnaires, physics teacher interviews. Data were analyzed descriptive qualitative. Findings: The level of problem-solving skills in the kinetic theory of gases is still low, 159 students in low category, 3 students in medium category. On average students only answered questions in the E-Execute the solution. Conclusion: Students are not used to solving questions with ACCES indicators. Students tend to learn by memorizing formulas. So, the website-based PBL model can be applied to improve students' problem solving skills. Keywords: problem solving skills, problem based learning, Gas kinetic theory.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202229
