Abstract

Moral and character education faces great challenges in today's modern society. Moral education for children is often hampered by their increasingly modern and complex environment. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. The data used to explore, analyse, and interpret this research comes from primary data sources, namely books on neuroscience, education, hifdz al-'Aql, and secondary data from scientific journals, articles, documents, and relevant digital sources. The purpose of this research is to integrate neuroscience methods with hifdz al-'Aql in children's moral education with the aim of developing better character building strategies. The findings of this study show that the combination of neuroscience and the principle of hifdz al-'Aql can provide a comprehensive approach to moral education, by understanding that the moral learning process does not only depend on the delivery of values, but also on the development of children's brains and cognitive abilities. This research confirms, this interdisciplinary use has the potential to produce an educational framework that is more flexible and responsive to the challenges of the times, providing teachers with more efficient tools to prepare a generation that is more in line with its nature.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays an important role in shaping the akhlak and character of students, especially in the context of Vocational High Schools (SMK) that prepare students for the world of work. However, PAI learning in SMK is often still theoretical and less relevant to industrial needs. This study aims to examine teachers' and students' perceptions of a PAI learning model oriented toward work-readiness at SMK ICB Bandung. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. The results of a word frequency query using NVivo 12 showed that akhlak aspects were the primary concern in PAI learning, with the highest frequency of occurrence in the interviews. Both teachers and students view akhlak such as honesty, responsibility, discipline, and work ethic—as fundamental components of character that directly support readiness to enter the workforce. Learning models applied include Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Discovery Learning, and approaches such as Uswah Hasanah and Ibrah Mauidzah. However, implementation still faces challenges, such as limited teacher experience with industrial contexts, lack of facilities, and overly theoretical teaching methods. Students express a desire for more interactive, practice-oriented, and industry-relevant learning models that integrate Islamic values into work simulations and Islamic soft-skills training. Therefore, innovation is needed to develop a more applicable PAI learning model, including the use of digital technologies and improved teacher competence in understanding the demands of the professional world.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore how the collaboration of stakeholders can realize SMK Muhammadiyah as a Center of Excellence based on Muhammadiyah values. The study subjects included principals, teachers, education personnel, students, parents, and business and industry (DUDI) partners, who were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model. Triangulation was applied to ensure data credibility. The findings show that effective stakeholder synergy plays an important role in optimizing curriculum relevance, improving teaching quality, and enhancing students' employability. Strong industry partnerships contribute to the development of students' practical skills through internships and work-based learning. In addition, Muhammadiyah values, such as hard work (al-jihad fi sabilillah), independence (al-istiqlal), and social concern (at-ta'awun), are integrated into the curriculum, fostering character development in addition to technical competence. This study provides an important contribution theoretically by showing that vocational education is not only oriented to the development of technical skills but also to the formation of Islamic character. Practically, the results of this study can be a model for strengthening partnerships between schools and industries through project-based learning and value integration. This study highlights the importance of involving various stakeholders in vocational education reform, providing insights for policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to advance vocational education strategies that are in line with industry demands and character-based education.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of learning approaches used by State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) in promoting students' critical thinking skills. A mixed-method approach was employed, integrating survey, interview, and observation techniques to collect comprehensive data. Students reported struggling with academic text comprehension (M = 2.03, SD = 0.176) and evaluation (M = 2.41, SD = 0.614), while indicating moderate satisfaction with learning systems (M = 2.94, SD = 0.618), and providing neutral-to-positive evaluations of lecturer quality (M = 2.75, SD = 0.100). Drawing on Bloom’s Taxonomy, constructivist learning theories, and the distinction between superficial and deep learning, the analysis highlights the need for pedagogical reforms that integrate active learning, collaborative problem-solving, and inquiry-based instruction. By bridging the gap between traditional religious pedagogy and contemporary educational objectives, Islamic higher education institutions can better equip graduates to engage critically with religious texts and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges, fostering both intellectual and spiritual growth. These findings imply that adopting student-centered and inquiry-based pedagogies in Islamic higher education can significantly enhance students’ critical thinking skills and better prepare them for complex societal demands.

Abstract

The implementation of accreditation should be in accordance with the new paradigm in the implementation of accreditation, which no longer differentiates between state and private institutions, utilizes community involvement and participation, and adheres to the principle of openness. The focus of this study is to obtain a role model for strategic management of accreditation held by public elementary schools. The research method used is a qualitative case study. The results of this study indicate the implementation of strategic management by improving teacher competence in the field of learning strategies in the classroom, in the implementation of independent curriculum, always learning independently and also learning together in the intra-school learning community. Involving stakeholders from all stakeholders, including teachers, students, parents, and the community is very important in supporting efforts to improve accreditation. The results of this study support the strategic management theory that emphasizes the importance of internal and external environmental analysis as a basis for strategic decision making. In the context of elementary school accreditation, data collection and SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis have proven to be crucial initial steps in determining a comprehensive school quality improvement strategy.

Abstract

The main problem is the lack of flexibility of leaders in integrating cultural change without sacrificing Islamic principles. This study aims to analyze how contextual leadership can be applied in facing the challenges of cultural change in Islamic educational institutions. The novelty of this research lies in an integrative approach that connects contextual leadership strategies with the principles of Islamic education. This research uses the type of Case Study research with interview data collection methods, observations, and literature studies of SMP Islam Ar-Rahmat Majalengka. The results of the study show that contextual leadership is effective in maintaining a balance between Islamic values and global cultural dynamics. The social implication is the creation of an adaptive Islamic education environment, inclusive, and adherence to Islamic values in the midst of changing times. The results of the study show that the COMPACT (Communication, Participation, Collaboration) strategy is the main approach in leadership in this school. Open and Islamic values-based communication strengthens transparency and trust between school leaders, teachers, students, and parents. The active participation of all education stakeholders supports deliberation-based decision-making (shura). This research emphasizes the importance of collaboration with external communities and institutions contributes to maintaining a balance between Islamic traditions and the demands of modern education

Abstract

This study delves into the lived experiences of students in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Mandailing Natal to explore the internalization of discipline, independence, and simplicity. While pesantren are crucial for cultivating Islamic values, they face growing pressures from modernization and the erosion of local traditions. Employing a hermeneutic phenomenological approach, which emphasizes the interpretation of lived experiences to uncover deeper layers of meaning beyond descriptive accounts, this study seeks to understand not only what students experience but also how they make sense of those experiences within their cultural and spiritual contexts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. eyond these credibility strategies, the interpretative process followed three interrelated steps characteristic of hermeneutic phenomenology and IPA: reduction, thematization, and reflective interpretation of meaning. The findings demonstrate that character formation is a process of continuous habituation and integration with local wisdom. Discipline is cultivated through structured daily routines, independence is fostered by self-reliance, and simplicity emerges from communal living and a unique senior-junior mentoring system. This study argues that the pesantren system, through its reliance on practical engagement and local cultural practices, provides a powerful counter-narrative to the depersonalizing effects of globalization, shaping students' moral and spiritual resilience. The results offer specific insights for educators and policymakers on strengthening a form of character education that is both culturally rooted and contextually relevant for Indonesian students.

Abstract

Developing the quality of educators in Islamic boarding schools plays a crucial role in realizing competitive Islamic boarding schools, adapting to current developments, and being open to renewal. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up of collaborative development with educators to create competitive Islamic boarding schools. The study employed a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design at Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School and Amanatullah Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation using purposive sampling techniques, and analyzed using triangulation. The research results show that, first, educator quality development planning tends to be conducted periodically, taking into account the complexity of the problems, the characteristics of human resources, and the needs of the development program. Second, the implementation pattern of educator quality development varies according to the governance and leadership style applied; the more participatory and adaptive the leadership, the greater the opportunity for integration between traditional values and modern management practices. Third, educator quality evaluation generally includes aspects of institutional performance, the effectiveness of the learning process, educator self-reflection, and analysis of the institutional context. Fourth, follow-up to mutual development requires the implementation of sustainable mutual management principles realized through training programs, a tiered evaluation system, and consistent stakeholder involvement. This finding confirms that systematic and contextual development of educator quality is an important factor in building the competitiveness of Islamic boarding schools in the modern era.
