Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of dialogical leadership in the management of educational institutions at Pesantren Bina Insan Mulia, Cirebon, through the lens of Paulo Freire’s theoretical perspective. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. Thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns and meanings from participants’ experiences. The findings reveal two major insights: first, dialogical leadership fosters managerial and curricular transformation that integrates pesantren traditions with modern competencies; second, it strengthens the pesantren’s role in developing students’ competencies according to their talents and aspirations while enhancing its contributions to the surrounding community. This research highlights that dialogical leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping a humanistic, participatory, and transformative educational model, demonstrating that pesantren can guide students authentically toward achieving their aspirations in line with their individual potentials.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is developing rapidly and is beginning to be widely adopted in higher education, including as a learning tool. However, the integration of AI into the realm of Islamic religious studies raises a number of issues for students, particularly regarding the validity and contextualization of AI responses to religious material rich in historical, linguistic, and spiritual meaning. This study aims to understand how students in the Bachelor of Islamic Religious Education program utilize AI as a tool to improve their pedagogical competence, as well as to identify their perspectives, support systems, and the obstacles they face in this process. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The results show that students actively use natural language processing-based platforms—AI technology that enables computers to understand, interpret, and respond to human language, both written and spoken. They also utilize global online learning platforms to broaden their horizons and collaboratively for academic discussions. However, doubts about the AI's responses arise due to its limitations in understanding the cultural, historical, and linguistic context of Arabic, particularly in Qur'anic interpretation and Islamic jurisprudence. To verify this, students compare the AI's results with classical literature, academic references, and direct consultations with experts. Key challenges identified include the gap between Islamic spiritual values and the formal logic of AI, limited digital access in remote areas, low digital literacy, and concerns that reliance on AI could diminish students' critical thinking skills regarding religious texts. These findings provide important contributions to the development of more inclusive and effective learning strategies, considering the thoughtful and contextual integration of AI into religious education in the digital age.

Abstract

Religious moderation is often a fragile concept and limited to ethical recommendations or fiqh rules without touching on the fundamentals of belief. This study does not merely affirm that santriwati in women's pesantren are moderate, but also uncovers the underlying mechanisms of how moderation is produced, namely through mastery of theological foundations that give them the intellectual authority to reconstruct religious discourse from within. A qualitative approach with a case study research type, as well as data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation review were used in this study. Data analysis and testing were also conducted. The results show that the deepening of the kitab al-Jawahir al-Kalamiyah at the women's pesantren Datok Sulaiman Palopo goes beyond mere knowledge transfer to become a complex mechanism for intellectual-spiritual empowerment. The santriwati actively negotiated and reconstructed the meaning of religious moderation, transforming it from a normative concept into a critical ideology rooted in their local context. This transformation was supported by the conducive structural foundation of the pesantren, where its vision, mission, and leadership provided significant space for women agents to operate. The pedagogical foundation for this success lies in the key elements of kitab al-Jawahir al-Kalamiyah. The teaching of tanzih (divine transcendence) instills intellectual humility by emphasizing the absolute difference between the Creator and creation. The concept of hikmah (divine wisdom) is articulated as a theological affirmation of diversity. Furthermore, the text's rational-dialogical question-and-answer method is maximized to train critical thinking and constructive dialogue skills, fostering a deep-seated respect for diversity.

Abstract

The background of this issue is the need for a comprehensive Islamic guidance model, given the weak understanding of faith and religious practices among converts after conversion. The purpose of this study is to develop a contextual and systematic curriculum and management model for Islamic guidance for converts in the city of Bandung. This study used a qualitative research method with a multiple case study design in three muallaf guidance institutions in Bandung City: Muallaf Centre Indonesia (MCI), Yayasan Muallaf Bandung, and the mosque's majelis taklim from January to June 2025. The informants in this study were institution managers, Islamic guidance instructors/teachers, community leaders, and active converts who participated in the guidance program. The data collection techniques in this study were in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study indicate that strengthening the faith of converts requires a special curriculum that integrates theological, worship, and socio-cultural dimensions, while adaptive guidance management oriented towards individual needs has been proven to increase the effectiveness of the internalization of Islamic values. The contribution of this research is the formulation of a contextual convert guidance curriculum model that can be replicated by Islamic da'wah and educational institutions in similar areas. The synergy between curriculum development and managerial management is identified as a key element in strengthening the sustainability of da'wah for convert groups

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of character education programs on the moral formation of students in the junior high school environment. The context of this research arises from the growing concern about the decline of moral values among adolescents, which is reflected in issues such as indiscipline, lack of respect for teachers and peers, and weak sense of responsibility in the school environment. Character education is therefore seen as one of the strategic efforts in instilling moral values such as honesty, responsibility, and respect in students from an early age. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a case study in one of the junior high schools in Indonesia. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, as well as documentation of character education activities. The results showed that the implementation of character education program has a positive impact on the moral behavior of students, especially in aspects of discipline, responsibility, and empathy for others. Learning that is integrated with character values, as well as support from the school environment and family, are key factors in the success of the program. However, there are still some challenges such as the lack of consistency in the implementation of the program and the limitations of teacher training in implementing a character-based approach. In conclusion, the character education program has a significant contribution in the formation of student morale, but its sustainability and effectiveness are highly dependent on the commitment of all components of the school as well as collaboration with parents. The recommendations of this study emphasize the importance of periodic evaluation, teacher training, and active involvement of all parties in building a school culture of character.

Abstract

The increasing complexity of early childhood care requires the establishment of systematic collaboration between schools and families through the mechanism of planned parenting programs. In the context of Islamic education, the internalization of fundamental values such as rahmah, uswah hasanah, Ta'awun, and collective responsibility for child development becomes an ethical and pedagogical foundation that must be operationalized at every stage of program planning. This study aims to analyze the significance of the values of Islamic education in the planning stages of parenting programs to strengthen the collaboration of school and family parenting. The research was conducted in Pelangi toddler Daycare, West Java, Indonesia with qualitative case study approach. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies involving teachers, managers, and parents. The findings of the study indicate that the integration of Islamic educational values in the planning stage contributes significantly to the alignment of parenting visions, increased communication effectiveness, and strengthening parental participation in the parenting process. Conversely, such non-value-based planning tends to result in weak coordination and low program effectiveness. This study confirms that the planning of parenting programs that are oriented to the values of Islamic education is an essential prerequisite for building effective, sustainable, and harmonious parenting collaboration between schools and families
