Abstract

Pronunciation is crucial for language learners as it directly influences their communication skills and overall language proficiency. This paper explores the potential of leveraging Microsoft's Speech Recognition Engine (MSRE) as a tool to enhance students' pronunciation capabilities. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative assessments and qualitative observations to evaluate the impact of using MSRE in a language learning environment. The methodology involves pre-test and post-test, where students' pronunciation proficiency is measured before and after incorporating MSRE. The real-time feedback provided by the speech-recognition engine helps learners identify and rectify pronunciation errors, promoting self-correction and self-directed learning.  This study contributes to the growing body of research on technology-enhanced language learning, specifically in the context of pronunciation improvement. The findings highlight the potential of MSRE as a valuable addition to language classrooms, emphasizing its role in fostering autonomous language learning and empowering students to take ownership of their language development.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is at present getting popularly used as the supporting tools of learning. The EFL students use various types of application to support their learning and doing the school assignment and projects. This study is thus aimed at portraying how AI is used as their supporting learning tools. This narrative inquiry is carried out by asking five selected students of English Department of a state university in Tulungagung who used AI to help them completing their final project of writing thesis proposal. The data were collected through interviewing them and reading their notes in July 2023. They were then qualitatively analysed. The results of this study revealed two main points. They do not only use Chat GPT as the most popular AI application, but there are also some other AI applications like Bing Chat, and Grammarly which are used to support their learning projects like writing research proposal. Those application are used for various reasons and usage like using Chat GPT to find framework of research topic, to develop and brainstorm ideas; employing Bing Chat to find review literature; and Grammarly is used to check the grammar error in their research proposal. Surprisingly, they can learn in a joyful learning atmosphere as well because they can play games while learning English vocabulary and other topics. Finally, these research results can be pedagogically implemented in the recent English Language Teaching which integrates technology for their teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether word wall media can enhance vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students in class 7D at SMP ADVENT UNKLAB AIRMADIDI during the second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The research was conducted over two cycles using Classroom Action Research of the Kemmis and McTaggart design, which includes four phases: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participants comprised 34 students (26 males and 8 females). Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests to assess vocabulary mastery. The pre-test results showed that only 29% of students (10 students) met the minimum mastery criteria (MMC) score of 70. After implementing word wall media in Cycle 1, the post-test revealed a significant improvement, with 47% (16 students) achieving mastery. However, this still did not meet the success indicator of 80%. In Cycle 2, following further treatment, the post-test results improved dramatically to 88%, with 30 students achieving mastery. This indicates that the use of word wall media significantly enhances students' vocabulary mastery. The study recommends that English teachers incorporate word wall media into their instructional strategies to improve vocabulary outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how the performance of public elementary school principals in Bekasi Regency is related to democratic leadership style and conflict management. This study uses correlational methodology and is quantitative. Researchers employed observation, questionnaires, interviews, and Correllation analysis to examine the data they collected. According to the study's findings, there is a relationship between democratic leadership style and school principal performance, with significance values of 0.001<0.05; there is also a relationship between conflict management and the principal's performance, with a significance value of 0.017<0.05; and there is a relationship between democratic leadership style and conflict management combined with the principal's performance, with significance values of 0.001<0.05. In summary, this study demonstrates that democratic leadership style and conflict management significantly affect school principal performance. The finding of this study suggests that in order to increase leadership efficiency and educational quality in schools, principals must develop abilities in democratic leadership and dispute resolution.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology tools, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), has led to the integration of technology-assisted learning media into educational settings. This study focuses on the utilization of AI and technology tools by students in the process of English academic writing and its impact on their writing skills. Employing a qualitative approach, data was gathered through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews involving 73 English education students at an Islamic University in Indonesia. The findings of the study revealed that students employed a total of 15 technology tools, categorized into four types: language structures, sources, saving tracks, and references. According to the participants, the tools used by the participants were able to provide: direct feedback and correction, writing skills development. Specifically, the participants claimed that the tools enhance their understanding of grammatical rules and vocabulary acquisition. In addition, the participants considered that the tools help them to write a more cohesive and coherent essay. This study implies that the incorporation of technology tools in English academic writing has the potential to revolutionize the development and evaluation of writing skills. However, it is essential for students to strike a balance between leveraging these tools and honing their writing skills to ensure writing development.

Abstract

The BBC Learning English Channel provides some audio and video resources dedicated to English language learners, making it a potentially useful tool in EFL courses especially in “6 Minutes English” section. This study analyses the students’ perception on using BBC Learning English as a way to learn listening. This study aims to determine how students’ perception on using BBC Learning English. The researchers use a descriptive qualitative research approach as a design to analysis the data using a semi-structured interview with the six-item questions as the research instrument. There are 11 EFL students, as the respondents were chosen at the university level. The study shows that BBC Learning English can be used as the media to learn listening skill. The result of this study shows that students get some benefits when they watch and listen to the content in BBC Learning English Channel whether it is about listening skill. In conclusion, learning listening skills through BBC Learning English can enhance listening and learning the British accent as well. Using BBC Learning English makes the process of learning effective and motivates students to learn more about English, so it can be used as an alternative way of learning listening

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is a convenience and problem for students and educators. The purpose of the study was to provide an overview of Artificial Intelligence misinterpretation of Arabic language. This research is descriptive qualitative. The primary source is ChatGPT and the secondary source is Arabic books. The data collection of this research is document and data analysis by means of content analysis. The results showed that Artificial Intelligence can correctly describe theories related to Arabic. But in terms of interpretation, many errors were found. This finding is different from how Artificial Intelligence can interpret other languages more accurately. Therefore, the study of Arabic sourced from Arabic linguists remains the main source. This is due to the unique characteristics of Arabic that are difficult for Artificial Intelligence to detect. The results of this study can be used as a consideration of the use of Artificial Intelligence as a reference in explaining Arabic.

Abstract

Education can transform the way we think and act to build more peaceful, tolerant and inclusive societies. In this globalized and interconnected world, global citizenship education (GCED) is urgently required to develop students’ values, soft skills and attitudes for social transformation. Unfortunately, GCED is not well known and not been implemented seriously in Indonesia, especially in pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). In fact, pesantren as prominent element of Islamic education has big responsibilities to promote the spirit of multiculturalism and social transformation for better world. This is in line with the spirit of fiqih peradaban (fiqh of civilization) which is brought by pesantren. This article aims to propose conceptual idea on global citizenship in pesantren and method to implement is using instructional technology. Using descriptive qualitative method and utilizing literature review, this article tried to answer this following question: “How is the design of global citizenship education in pesantren?” The result concluded that to design GCED, a comprehensive curriculum should be designed to integrate cognitive, social-emotional and behavior aspects of GCED with the value and principles pf pesantren. Beside of that, the use of instructional technology like audio-visual media, internet and artificial intelligence (AI) should be maximized to create advanced results.

Abstract

Curriculum changes from the Kurikulum 2013 to the Kurikulum Merdeka require teachers to be creative and innovative in carrying out differentiated learning. Technology is needed to make it easier for teachers to implement it. PAI teachers at SMPN 2 Kepung Kediri have innovated by utilizing Hyperdoc in the differentiated PAI learning. This study aims to describe: 1) different forms of PAI learning in classes IX-G and IX-I on tolerance; 2) implementing PAI learning based on Hyperdoc; and 3) The effectiveness of using Hyperdoc in PAI learning. The research approach used is a qualitative type of case study. Data collection techniques using interviews and documentation. The validity of the collected data was checked by means of technical triangulation. The results can be concluded: 1) Forms of PAI learning are carried out through content, process and product differentiation; 2) The implementation of differentiated PAI learning based on Hyperdoc technology is carried out through the following steps: distributing forms containing questions related to students' interest in art or other; compiling a differentiated Hyperdoc whose material is according to students' interests; PAI learning is carried out by teachers using Hyperdoc in various ways, in groups, and individually; create digital comic projects as a form of reflection on understanding the material that has been taught; and finally presenting the work; 3) The effectiveness of PAI learning by utilizing Hyperdoc can be seen through the positive responses of students and the learning outcomes of students who have achieved the Learning Objectives Achievement Criteria.

Abstract

This study directs readers to find out the effect of chatGPT on the learning productivity of high school students. In the industrial era 5.0, humans have fast-paced demands in carrying out various activities in daily life. This study used a simple regression analysis technique to determine the significant difference between chatGPT and student productivity in secondary schools. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire and given to 25 students of MTsN 2 Kota Kediri. The data that has been collected will be analyzed using simple regression consisting of several tests including, normality and linearity tests, and heteroscedasticity tests. From these tests, the results obtained a significance value above 0.05 so it can be concluded that the use of chatGPT affects student learning productivity
