Abstract

The poem "Aku" by Chairil Anwar is one of the most famous and meaningful works of Indonesian literature. This poem not only talks about individualism and existentialism, but also reflects the social and political conditions of Indonesia during the Revolution. In this journal, the author will analyze the poem "Aku" using the author's sociological approach to understand its social meaning and historical context. The author's sociological approach sees literary works as social products that are shaped by the socio-political conditions of the author and his time. By analyzing Chairil Anwar's biography and the socio-political context of Indonesia in the 1940s, the author will show how the poem "Aku" is a reflection of social reality and the individual's struggle to find meaning in a turbulent situation. This analysis will show that the poem "I" is not only about a statement of individualism, but also about a critique of oppression and injustice. Chairil Anwar uses his poetry to voice his concerns about colonialism and feudalism, as well as to fight for independence and social justice.

Abstract

The short story "Robohnya Our Surau" by A.A. Navis describes the story of a surau keeper known as Grandpa, as well as how social changes and shifts in religious values ​​affect people's lives. Using the framework of Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony, this analysis examines three main elements: ideology, culture and beliefs contained in the story. This short story shows how a strong religious ideology is the basis for Grandpa in living his life, but at the same time, this ideology is also challenged by the social realities faced by the surrounding community. Cultural shifts can be seen through changes in people's attitudes towards the surau and Grandfather, as well as the emergence of figures such as Ajo Sidi who bring new, critical perspectives.

Abstract

This article describes the religious values represented in the film “Tears at the Edge of the Prayer Mat”. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach. The data source in the research is film. The focus of the research includes religious values relating to humans with God, other humans and nature and the relevance of religious values in learning literary works in schools. It is hoped that these two aspects of focus will be able to complement the religious values that are currently being abandoned by many people and the younger generation. It is hoped that the research will be able to remind all people to always embody religious values in their daily lives. The religious values found in this study include being patient as a human being, having steadfast morals, and being a just, sincere and useful human being. There is a relationship between learning and religious values which can be a guide for improving the character of school students.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the moral values contained in the film Bila Esok Ibu Tiada. This film raises the theme of family conflict, responsibility, and the value of sacrifice in caring for parents. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through direct observation of films and analysis of dialogues and scenes. The results of the study show that this film contains various moral values, such as children's responsibilities to parents, the importance of communication in the family, gender equality, and the consequences of neglect of parents. The director conveys a moral message through storylines, characterizations, and the use of cinematic elements such as lighting, shooting, and background music. Analysis based on Bertens' moral theory shows that moral values in this film are related to responsibility, conscience, absolute obligation, and formal nature.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis wacana berita mengenai aksi demonstrasi buruh di PT Samawood yang nyaris berujung pada bentrok. Menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan analisis wacana model Teun A. Van Dijk, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi struktur makro, superstruktur, dan sintaksis dalam teks berita yang diterbitkan di utamanews.com. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa struktur makro berfokus pada tema utama yaitu aksi demo yang dilakukan oleh para buruh atau karyawan dan penolakan terhadap pemutusan hubungan kerja (PHK) dan dampak dari keributan yang terjadi. Selain itu, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi penggunaan kata ganti yang memperkuat koherensi teks, serta bentuk kalimat aktif dan pasif yang mendukung penyampaian informasi. Temuan ini menyoroti pentingnya penyajian informasi yang sistematis dan terorganisir dalam wacana berita untuk memudahkan pemahaman pembaca terhadap isu yang diangkat.

Abstract

This study analyzes the short story ‘Si Montok’ by A.A. Navis using Sara Mills’ critical discourse analysis model, focusing on the representation of women in the text and how the text reconstructs power relations in society. This analysis aims to reveal how the discourse in the short story presents and perhaps challenges the construction of gender and power in society. Through the analysis of the positions of the subject, object, and reader in the narrative structure, this study finds that the short story ‘Si Montok’ tends to represent women from a male perspective, objectifies women’s bodies, and reinforces existing social stereotypes of women. This analysis is expected to enrich Indonesian literary studies with a critical discourse analysis perspective, especially Sara Mills’ model, which emphasizes the importance of social and political context in understanding the text.

Abstract

This study examines the acceptance of grief and changes in family dynamics shown in the film "Bila Esok Ibu Tiada" by Rudy Soedjarwo. The film focuses on the emotional journey of a family facing the loss of a mother, raising a deep theme of how each family member goes through the process of accepting grief. Using a hermeneutic approach, the study explores the different stages of grief identified by Kübler-Ross, including denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance, to show how the characters interact and cope with loss. The results of the analysis show that the film not only depicts the grief of loss, but also the far-reaching impact on relationships between family members, where the experience of grief can create conflict and strengthen bonds. The journal provides insights into the representation of grieving experiences in cultural contexts, and how film can serve as a medium for understanding and reflecting on the complex dynamics in family life after loss.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover gender bias in household product advertisements through critical discourse analysis, focusing on the ‘SOS New Sereh Floor Cleaner’ advertisement aired on YouTube on October 25, 2017. YouTube as an increasingly dominant digital marketing platform offers advertisers the opportunity to reach a wider audience at an efficient cost. However, the advertisements aired also risk reinforcing gender stereotypes, especially in the representation of women’s roles as housekeepers. Using a qualitative approach with Sara Mills’ critical discourse theory, this study aims to analyze how language, visuals, and symbols in advertisements shape unequal gender narratives. The results of the analysis show that the advertisements tend to place women in positions that are closely connected to domestic activities, reinforcing traditional gender roles that can influence social perceptions of women’s roles in public spaces. This study is expected to provide deeper insight into the impact of digital advertising in shaping social discourse related to gender, as well as provide recommendations to advertisers to create fairer and more equal representation in the world of advertising.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the extrinsic elements in the film Bila Esok Ibu Tiada based on the literary sociology approach proposed by Wellek and Warren. This film raises the theme of a mother's sacrifice, the value of solidarity in the family, and social change due to modernization. By using descriptive qualitative method, this research examines three main aspects in literary sociology, namely the sociology of authors, the sociology of literary works, and the sociology of readers. The analysis shows that the background of the author, Nuy Nagiga, who has journalistic experience, contributes to building the realism of the story. In terms of the sociology of literary works, the movie illustrates the challenges faced by single mothers and the impact of social change on family values. Meanwhile, in terms of the sociology of readers, the movie succeeds in building the audience's emotions and encourages reflection on family relationships. Overall, this study shows that extrinsic elements have an important role in shaping the meaning and impact of a literary work in the form of a movie.

Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of the film "Bila Esok Ibu Tiada" using a semiotic approach to explore the representation of a mother's affection for her child. Qualitative descriptive methods are applied to identify and interpret various semiotic signs found in the film, including interactions between characters, storylines, and visual and verbal symbols. By referring to Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory, this study explores the meaning contained in these symbols, showing how the film communicates the complexity of a mother's affection and sacrifice. The results of the analysis show that the symbolism in the film not only conveys emotions, but also highlights social values ​​and deep family relationships.
